Game #1: | Kyle Freeland 4-0 .27 ERA (POR). vs Mike Clevinger 2-1 3.00 ERA (PIT) Freeland has been absolutely amazing thus far.. with just one earned run, and 12 hits, in 33 innings! Clevinger has been not too shabby either… is a pitching duel coming? Portland’s Jose Martinez gets a 2-run dinger in the 5th to give Portland a 3-0 lead, and that was all Freeland would need, as get goes the coast to coast shutout (his third on the year) POR 3 PIT 0 |
Game #2: | Ryan Flaherty 3-0 2.39 ERA (POR), vs Cole Hamels 1-0 1.00 ERA (PIT) Moustakas goes deep for Pittsburg in the 2nd inning to open the scoring. Portland answers back with a bases loaded 3-run double by Tyler Austin. Portland would add 2 more in the inning to make it 5-1 after 3. Pittsburgh could not catch up from there and Portland gets the win. POR 7 PIT 2 |
Game #3: | Ross Stripling 1-0 4.09 ERA (POR) vs Jake Odorizzi (PIT) CJ Cron starts things off right for Portland with a solo HR in the first, but Pittsburgh answers back in the 3rd to tie it. Tyler Saladino ‘Chef Salad’, hits a 3-run blast for Portland in the 7th inning to break it open. 6-1 PDX. Pitt gets a few back in the 8th, but Portland holds on for the win. POR 6 PIT 3 |
Game #4: | Walker Buehler 2-1 1.50 ERA (POR) vs Jameson Taillon 1-2 1.84 ERA Taillon eaves a brilliant NO HITTER for Pittsburgh! Seven K’s, and just two walks and a HBP. WOW! PIT 3 POR 0 |

Pittsburgh said… you like no hitters? Well here’s ANOTHER. Clevinger this time gets the no-no. 10K’s and just two walks. WOW again! |
Series Summary: | It’s a 3-3 split. Both teams could be scrambling for a playoff birth by the end of the year… likely wildcard hopes only for Portland. TWO NO-HITTERS in one series for Pittsburgh? Are you kidding me? I mean, Portland doesn’t have much offense, so one I can understand… |
Detroit Crime @ Mesa Solar Sox |
|
---|---|
Series Summary: | Detroit Crime takes series 4-3 over the Mesa Solar Sox |
Rosemere Renegades @ Valdosta Snappers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Two struggling teams, Rosemere and Valdosta, face off for a 7 game series in south Georgia. |
Game #1: | Valdosta 3-2(10 Innings). The Snappers’ Jordan Zimmerman made a nice debut with 7 solid innings pitched in a no-decision. Snappers walked it off against Robert Gsellman in the 10th. |
Game #2: | Valdosta 7-4. The Snappers rapped out 14 hits including 2 HR’s from Mark Reynolds and a solo shot from the ageless Albert Pujols (his 4th of the year). Craig Kimbrel couldn’t nail it down in the 9th but Alex Colome put out the fire for his 1st save of the year. |
Game #3: | Rosemere 4-2. Some solid pitching on both sides but the Renegades were just a little better today. |
Game #4: | Rosemere 2-1. more great pitching until Craig Kimbrel blew another save and was saddled with the loss as he allowed single runs in the 9th and 10th. |
Game #5: | Rosemere 5-3 (11 Innings). More solid pitching until the Snappers’ Kenta Maeda imploded in the 11th. Renegades hold on for the win. Of note was the Renegades’ Jerad Eickhoff who struck 18 (!) in 9 innings of work. |
Game #6: | Valdosta 5-4. This time Craig Kimbrel tossed a scoreless 9th and notched his 3rd save of the year. |
Game #7: | Valdosta 4-3 (10 innings). A miracle comeback for the Snappers who were down to their last out in the 9th with Nate Eovaldi one out away from a CG shutout. Kurt Suzuki was the hero for the Snappers as he launched a 3-blast to left to tie the game @ 3. That was also Kurt’s 1st HR of the year. After the Snappers held the Renegades scoreless in the 10th, Miguel Sano led of the bottom of the 10th with a HR of his own to give Valdosta the win. |
Series Summary: | A close series due in part to the Renegades struggling to get 9 men on the field due to injuries and guys being tired at game time. Valdosta takes 4 of 7. |
Harsens Island Walleye @ Columbus Explorers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Harsens Island Walleyes make the 5 hour bus ride to Columbus to take on the Explorers for 7. Both teams are off to different starts – but the Explorers are back from a tough week with the evil empire and they hope they can take it out on the Walleyes. By the way, Walleyes make great fish fries!! |
Game #1: | Apparently the Explorers were still in jet lag after the flight back from Tempe and the Walleyes were out for blood. Luis Severino pitched 7 strong innings giving up 3 hits and 1 run while fanning 8. Leury Garcia goes 2 for 4, scoring 3, driving in two and smashing his 2nd homer of the season. Rajai Davis added 2 rbis and Harsens Island takes the opener big time! HIW 7-9-0 WP Severino (1-2) COL 1-5-2 LP Glenn Sparkman (1-2) |
Game #2: | Explorers were not happy with game 1 so they set out to do something about it and they did. 2 runs in the 1st, 2 in the 3rd. BUT they forgot their pitching plans. Liam Hendricks was slated to start – but he relieved in game 1. So he was down graded to 1. So he acted like a “STARTER” and even though he was grade 1, he gets in two innings giving up no runs. But Columbus then needed an unplanned group of relievers. Matt Magill came in for the 3rd and he gives up 1 in the 3rd and 2 more in a 3 run Harsens Island 5. And after 5 it was tied 4-4. Nolan Arenando hits a solo homer (2) and Rajai Davis cracks his 1st of the year – 2 runs – as part of the scoring. But the bullpen for Columbus then cracks down and the Explorers get 3 more late in the game to pull off the win. Asdrabel Cabrera hits his 5th homer of the year. HIW 4-11-0 LP Gio Gonzalez (0-3) COL 7-10-1 WP Yusmeiro Petit (1-0) S David Robertson (2) |
Game #3: | Columbus then exerts some timely hitting and good eyes as they draw 4 walks – they score 6 runs on 5 hits and J.A. Happ shuts out the Walleye over 8 innings on 2 hits and 15 Ks! HIW 0-2-1 LP Jose Urena (1-2) COL 6-5-0 WP Happ (4-1) |
Game #4: | Explorers couldn’t keep it going – and it took a big rally by the Walleyes to get the win. Columbus starts off with 2 in the 1st and 3 in the 3rd and Julio Teheran looked like he was on the way to another win. But not so fast…. 4th inning comes along and he begins to lose control – even to the point of walking the bases full and then some! Walleyes score 3 in the 4th and 5th give them the 6-5 lead. Matt Davidson hits a 2 run triple. Brian McCann gets 2 doubles and drives in 3 runs. Starter Eduardo Rodriguez left in the 4th and Jeffrey Springs took over and pitched a third of an inning – and he gets the win. Fernando Rodney gets the save and 5 Harsen Island relievers keep the Explorers from scoring after the 3rd. HIW 6-7-1 WP Springs (1-0) COL 5-7-1 LP Teheran (3-2) |
Game #5: | By now, the Walleyes were finding their players fatigued in the quick start to the season and it was having a big hit on the catching core. Omar Narvaez gets a fatigue injury after this game and Brian McCann is tired – they both were hoping for help from the farm, but it wasn’t coming. And game 5 goes 10 innings on top of that. Columbus scores 1 in the 2nd and Narvaez drives in the tying run with a triple in the 4th. Then a bunch of cool plays (at the plate) and a bases loaded jam with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th and Jeffrey Springs comes in and gets a DP to move the game to overtime. But Fernando Rodney comes in and gives up a couple of hits and SB and SF by Matt Carpenter ends the game in the 10th. HIW 1-5-1 LP Rodney (2-2) COL 2-9-0 WP Tony Watson (2-0) |
Game #6: | Harsens Island wants to win more and they score 3 in the 1st that included a 2 run homer by Johan Camargo (4) and it was followed by a solo homer from Matt Davidson. They two then hit doubles later in the game for another run. Nolan Arenado gets 2 hits and drives in another run as the Walleyes rack up 5 runs through 6. Columbus retaliates with 2 in the 1st and 3 more in the 3rd. Enrique Hernandez drives in 2 of them as does Matt Carpenter. Score tied 5-5 after 6th. The 3 runs in the 3rd were rather unique. The bases were loaded and Hernandez was up. Luis Severino throws a WP – 1 run. He then throws another WP, 2 runs. Hernandez then hits a SF for the 3rd run. So in effect, Hernandez cleared the bases with his AB. Columbus then scores 1 in the 7th and the bullpen does the rest. HIW 5-12-0 LP Neil Ramirez (0-1) COL 6- 9-0 WP Yusmeiro Petit (2-0) S David Robertson (3) |
Game #7: | Series finale and it can either be tight for Harsens Island or a big win for Columbus. Gio Gonzalez faces off against Liam Hendricks – this time he was rested and ready to go. But so was Nolan Arenado and he hits a 2 run homer (3) in the top of the 1st. Columbus gets it back in the bottom of the 2nd as Enrique Hernandez keeps up his timely hitting and run production. But the Walleye get to Hendriks for 2 more in the 5th and a “BUSHED” Brian McCann drives in 2 for a 4-2 lead. However, the Explorers get it back and 1 more when the score 3 in the bottom half – Gonzalez was lifted after 4.2, giving up 6 hits, 4 walks and 5 runs. Hendriks leaves and the Columbus bullpen shuts out the Walleyes over the final 4 innings – and the Explorers score 2 more for the 7-4 win. HIW 4-11-0 LP Gonzalez (0-4) COL 7- 9-0 WP Hendriks (1-0) S Yusmeiro Petit (2) |
Series Summary: | Columbus takes the series 5-2 and the Walleyes need to check their fatigue – teams is in a bit of hurts. Fun part of the early season is this is when rest is important! Columbus goes Rosemere for 6 while motors back up north to host Valdosta. |
Chicago Mobsters @ Virginia Sluggers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The always tough and front running Chicago Mobsters go East to take on the lowly Virginia Sluggers. |
Game #1: | VIR 3-2 W-Tommy Hunter(1-0) L-Dellin Betances (0-2) Getting one run in the first on a ground out, VIR added another in the 4th,,,” G. SPRINGER facing N. SYNDERGAARD, B 4th, 1 Out, Bases Empty, Ahead 1-0 The delivery … muscled to deep left … this one has a passport … adios, amigo it’s long gone!” Noah Syndergaard tightened up and kept VIR from adding to their lead for the next 4.2 innings. CHI finally put a run on the board in the 6th on a Freddie Freeman RBI double. The Mobsters tied the game in the 8th…”A. BREGMAN facing L. CASTILLO, T 8th, 1 Out, Bases Empty, Behind 1-2 He comes home … it’s hit deep to SPRINGER … over his head, say good-bye to this one…it’s gone! … home run for BREGMAN … Alex ties it up!” They needed extra innings to finish this one. Both bullpens did a good job untill the bottom of the 11th…”C. GALLAGHER facing A. CHAPMAN, B 11th, 1 Out, Bases Loaded, Tied 2-2…They’re pulled in around the infield … there’s a fly ball to left … McCUTCHEN drifts back … still backpeddling…and he makes the catch … the runners are tagging…BRINSON coming down the line… here’s the play at the plate … and he’s … in standing…MOBSTERS 2, SLUGGERS 3″ |
Game #2: | CHI 7-3 W-Victor Alcantara (1-1) L-Trevor Williams (2-2) Andrelton Simmons ripped a solo shot to lead off the game for CHI, but after that their bats went cold. VIR’s Trevor Williams seemed to have the game in control after that and had a 2-1 lead after 8 innings when Jean Segura and Whitt Merrifield came up with RBI singles in the 4th and 5th innings. Unfortunately, the wheels fell off the cart when CHI’s Alex Bregman came to the plate with runners on… “there’s a deep drive to left … it’s going to be a long run for BRADLEY … it’s a base hit…one run scores … tie game! … two runs score … MOBSTERS lead!” Billy Hamilton added a 2-run single to make it 4-2 and two Slugger errors get them 2 more runs to account for the final score of 7-3. |
Game #3: | VIR 4-0 W-Luis Perdomo (1-2) L-Felix Hernandez (0-2) Sv-Felipe Vazquez (4) Luis Perdomo scattered 4 hits over 7.2 innings and walked 8 batters,…but did not let any of those base runners score. And with Lewis Brinson’s 2-run homer and Anthony Rizzo’s RBI single, that was all the run support Perdomo needed as he handed the ball to Vazquez for the save. |
Game #4: | VIR 4-3 W-Tim Hill (1-0) L-Dellin Betances (0-3) Sv-Jace Fry (3) CHI’s Carlos Martinez pitched 6 innings of 2 hit no run ball,…and having a 3-0 lead highlighted by Andrew McCutchen’s 2-run blast, left it to Dellin Betances to close it up. After a double, a walk, and a single loads the bases for the Sluggers in the 8th, Anthony Rizzo steps into the batters box…”a blast to right…way back … it’s long gone! … a grand slam for RIZZO! BETANCES is just hanging his head…MOBSTERS 3, SLUGGERS 4″ The Slugger bullpen takes care of the 9th. |
Game #5: | VIR 4-3 W-Taylor Williams (1-0) L-Victor ALcantara (1-2) After trading a 2 spot in the 1st, VIR went ahead 3-2 when Andrew McCutchen dropped a fly ball that allowed Whitt Merrifield to score and put VIR up 3-2. However, Freddie Freeman picked McCutchen up with one swing in the 9th…”FREEMAN clubs a high drive … deep to right … it could be…BRADLEY to the track … wave good-bye … it’s gone! … home run for Freddie FREEMAN Freddie ties the game!” But VIR pulled it out in the bottom of the 10th when George Springer lined a walk-off single to center to give VIR another come from behind victory. |
Game #6: | CHI 2-1 W-Noah Syndergaard (2-1) L-Ryan Borucki (0-1) Sv-Dellin Betances (1) Syndergaard only allowed 3 hits in 7 innings, but one of them was an RBI single off the bat of Whitt Merrifield that gave VIR a 1-0 lead in the 6th. Down to their last 6 outs, CHI put together back-to-back RBI singles that gave them the 2-1 lead. But wait, Dellin Betances was heading to the mound,…he of two blown saves already this series. This time, however, he faced 7 batters, struck out 4 and did not allow anyone to score in recording his first save of the year! |
Game #7: | CHI 3-2 W-CC Sabathia (3-1) L-Luis Castillo (1-3) Sv-Aroldis Chapman (4) CHI struck early with 3 runs in the 2nd on RBI hits from Joe Panik, Billy Hamilton and Alcides Escobar. That was it for their offense. But the pitching made that stand up. Sabathia scattered 5 hits and a run over 7 innings, Victor Alcantar gave up 1 run in his one inning and Aroldis Chapman came in for a 1-2-3 9th inning, as CHI finished the series with a good win. |
Series Summary: | VIR takes the series with a surprising 4-3 win. Hoever, give Betances a little better luck and CHI would have taken it 5-2. |

Series Summary: | Series Split. |
Dallas Cougars @ Yonge Street Stalkers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The Stalkers host Dallas. YSS is trying to stay above ground in the suddenly chaotic AL Central. |
Series Summary: | The Stalkers won the first 2 games easily…10-1, and 9-1. Fun was had by all. The wheels started falling off in game 3. That sourness was followed by a booster shot of awful. Poor play, poor bullpen, and poor decision making by the home squad were all Dallas needed to win the final 4 games of a disappointing series. On the bright side…no injuries! |
Motor City Muscle @ Southbend Lynx |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Motor City comes to Southbend for a 6 Game Series. Can the Southbend Lynx generate any offense against the strong Motor City starting pitching? We shall see. |
Game #1: | SBL D.Holland outduels Verlander tossing the CG shutout giving up only 2 hits while fanning 10. SBL get all the runs they need in the B1 on a Lowrie rbi-2b and Escobar rbi-1b. Meadows adds a solo-HR in the B3. SBL 3, MCM 0 |
Game #2: | MCM K.Hendricks returns the favor from Game 1 tossing 7 innings of shutout ball, eventually giving way to Nuno and W.Davis to close out the game. MCM get a Villanueva sac fly in the T4 and a Castellanos solo-HR in the T9 for their runs. MCM 2, SBL 0 |
Game #3: | SBL start the scoring in the B3 on an Altuve sac fly and Lowrie 2-run HR. Candelario hits a solo-HR in the T4 off Foltynewicz. But SBL erupts for 4 more in the B4 giving Folty some runs for a change. The big play in the inning and the series was when Trout and Granderson collide on Maxwell’s fly ball allowing 2 runs to score. Trout is injured for 6 days and Granderson for 5 days. MCM gets a 2-run HR from A.Garcia in the T6. SBL Miller and Bradley come out of the pen to nail down the game. SBL 7, MCM 3 |
Game #4: | MCM comes out swinging getting a 3-run HR from Villanueva in the T1. MCM add 2 more in the T3 on a Alonso rbi-1b and LaMarre rbi-1b. SBL manage to score 2 runs off deGrom before he leaves after 8IP having given up only 4 hits and fanning 8. The SBL put a scare into the MCM with an Escobar 2-run HR in the B9, but W.Davis fans Trumbo to pick up his 5th save. MCM 5, SBL 4 |
Game #5: | The SBL open the scoring in the B1 on a Escobar sac fly and Canha rbi-1b. SBL adds another in the B4 on a Cozart solo-HR, his 1st of the season. SBL would add 2 more in the B7 on back-to-back solo-HRs by Escobar and Cave. But the story of the game was the pitching of M.Koch, Moronta, and Miller for SBL as they combine for the 5 hit shutout. SBL 5, MCM 0 |
Game #6: | Rematch of the 1st Game as Verlander faces Holland. SBL gets to Verlander in the B2 on a Cozart 2-run HR. MCM gets one back in the T6 on a Canha throwing error on a LeMarre 1b allowing Ahmed to score. MCM ties the game in the T8 on a Castellanos sac fly. But the tie is short lived as SBL Lowrie hits a solo-HR in the B8 for a 3-2 SBL lead. SBL Osuna comes on to retire the MCM in the T9 for his 9th save. SBL 3, MCM 2 |
Series Summary: | The SBL gets a surprising 4-2 series win over the MCM. Certainly the loss of Trout at the beginning of the series, from a previous injury, and losing him again for the remainder of the series had a lot to do with this series results. The SBL will except their good fortune. |
