|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Dallas comes to Motor City for a big 6-game series. They’re looking to deliver the knock-out punch, leading MCM by 10 games. |
Game #1: | MCM 3 – DAL 0
WP: Verlander HR: MCM–Trout Justin Verlander pitches around three walks and yields only two hits in eight innings of shutout ball. |
Game #2: | MCM 1 – DAL 0
WP: Hendricks HR: MCM–Kendrick Kyle Hendricks makes Howie Kendrick’s 1st inning solo shot hold up, duplicating Verlander’s eight-inning, two-hit performance. Dallas Keuchel probably deserved a better fate, striking out 10 and walking none while also giving up only two hits in a complete game effort. |
Game #3: | MCM 6 – DAL 2
WP: Leake HR: MCM–Trout, Castellanos MCM broke open a close game with a pair of two-run innings in the 6th and 7th. Balanced attack by MCM, as six different hitters scored, seven had hits, and four had RBIs. |
Game #4: | DAL 11 – MCM 3
WP: Corbin HR: DAL–Pollock DAL offense took revenge for the first three games as Jacob de Grom continued his second-half slide. Four different DAL hitters (A.J. Pollock, Jose Abreu, Justin Smoak, Gregory Polanco) had three hits, but the star was Pollock, who added a HR, three runs scored, and three RBI. |
Game #5: | MCM 9 – DAL 0

Rosemere Renegades @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Bethesda tries to take advantage of an opponent mismatch as they host rebuilding Rosemere while close on our heels Jersey takes on powerhouse Columbus. |
Game #1: | Late-season pickup Tyler Pill continues to exceed expectations going the distance and throwing a four hitter as Bethesda shuts down Rosemere 4-0. The game was a quiet one offensively with each team managing just one extrabase hit – Brandon Crawford got his 32nd double for the Renegades while the ‘Coots got a four-bagger from Logan Morrison. Pill walked none and struck out nine in the game and even helped himself out with a sacrifice fly and RBI in the 7th inning. BETHESDA 4 – ROSEMERE 0 Win-Pill (4-0) Loss-Weaver (0-6) HR-BET: Morrison (33) |
Game #2: | Bethesda came from behind to overpower Rosemere 6-2 with Aledmys Diaz catalyzing the offense with a two-run bases loaded single in the 5th inning to break the game open and give the Bandicoots the lead for good. Jefry Marte gave Rosemere the lead in the 4th inning when he clubbed a drive deep over the centre field wall with Brandon Crawford hanging around on base to watch. The Bandicoots took advantage of some wild pitching which included a total of 8 walks in the game as they loaded the bases in the 5th with one run coming in on a bases loaded walk by Jake Esch to Trevor Story to bring in the first and game-tying run. Jonathan Schoop’s infield hit brought in another and then after Adrian Gonzalez (have not heard that name for a while) popped out Diaz laced a single to right to bring in a pair and make it 5-2. Anthony Rendon doubled in the 8th to close out the scoring for Bethesda and the game. Rosemere starter Francisco Liriano continued to have his nightmarish season falling to 1-22 after allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits in 4-2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out five. BETHESDA 6 – ROSEMERE 2 Win-Ryu (8-4) Loss-Liriano (1-22) HR-ROS: Marte (7) |
Game #3: | Bethesda starter Tyson Ross was just OK in his return to the rotation but it was all the team needed as they scored early and often in an 8-3 win over Rosemere. Anthony Rendon was a cool 5/5 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI and smacked his 41st double of the year. He also got credited with hitting into a double play (dumb) on a play in which he got a hit and then passed a runner (Jon Jay) with yet another runner (Stephen Drew) thrown out on the play at home. Michael Saunders had two hits and two RBIs for Bethesda as well. Brandon Crawford led the Rosemere offense with 2/3 and two runs scored and a walk. He also laced his 34th double of the year down the 3rd baseline in the 4th inning. Also getting two hits each for Rosemere were Breyvic Valera and plays everywhere guy Taylor Motter with Motter notching a double and driving in two runs. Rosemere starter Jared Eickhoff limped through four innings allowing seven runs on 10 hits while walking and striking out a pair. BETHESDA 8 – ROSEMERE 3 Win-Ross (7-4) Loss-Eickhoff (4-18) HR-none |
Game #4: | Alex Cobb and Adam Ottavino combined to five-hit the Renegades as Bethesda won a deceptively lop-sided 6-0 game thanks to a six-run bottom of the 8th courtesy of Andrew Knapp. With the game knotted 0-0 in the bottom of the 8th and one out Knapp fielded Lorenzo Cain’s dribbler in front of the plate and through something less than a strike to 1st base to put him on and earn his first E. Rosemere reliever Koda Glover then walked Anthony Rendon who was erased by Jonathan Schoop’s fielder’s choice that moved Cain to 3rd. Logan Morrison’s barely hit ball was fielded by Knapp who tried to nail Cain as he tried to make his way back to 3rd and instead fired the ball into left field allowing Cain to come home to score. From there the Bandicoots rattled off a series of hits including back-to-back homers by David Peralta and Derek Norris and that was it. Hyun-soo Kim had two hits for Rosemere which did not have an extrabase hit in the game. BETHESDA 6 – ROSEMERE 0 Win-Cobb (13-2) Loss-Glover (0-1) HR-BET: Peralta (13), Norris (5) |
Game #5: | Garret Richards pitched brilliantly for Rosemere until running out of gas in the 8th innings as Bethesda came back from a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 lead against the Grade 19 starter to score four unanswered runs in the late going and escape with a 4-3 win thanks to a game ending and very unsexy sacrifice fly by Jonathan Schoop. Richards was so good early on (4 perfect innings) that Bethesda tried to get him out of the game the old fashion way with a fastball to the sideburns. No-go though unless it had a delayed reaction but you can’t blame Sonny Gray for trying. You can blame him for a so-so start though as he allowed three runs on six hits in five innings getting the no-decision for Bethesda. Raimel Tapia provided the big bats for Rosemere with a double and a homer while Jon Jay had a double and two singles to pace the Bandicoots. BETHESDA 4 – ROSEMERE 3 Win-Brice (4-1) Loss-Johnson (2-2) HR-ROS: Tapia (3) |
Game #6: | Bethesda was going for the sweep and tried to put Rosemere out of their misery early but the Renegades were having none of it. Robert Gsellman was less than stellar for Rosemere and by the end of the 3rd inning was down 3-0 after giving up a two-run double to Jonathan Schoop in the 2nd and a solo homer to Lorenzo Cain in the 3rd. But then a funny thing happened (although not so funny to Bethesda starter Tyson Ross who was pitching on short rest). Ross walked Gsellman in the 4th (for the 1st time) and then the pitcher came around to score on Breyvic Valera’s single to narrow it to 3-1. Then the really funny thing happened. The Renegades tore into Ross like a dog into a postman scoring six times in the 5th inning in a complete offensive riot that included yet another walk to Gsellman, Ross hitting Jefry Marty in the back with a pitch … ill-advised with the bases loaded … and then the next batter, Brandon Crawford, mashed the ball out of the park for a grand slam and a 7-3 Rosemere lead. yikes. Unfortunately, Gsellman’s performance at the plate earned him another try at the mound and it went a little awry. The Bandicoots scored five times in their half of the 5th and then added one in the 6th to complete the sweep and take the game 9-7. Rosemere threatened to tie it in the 9th though when closer Brandon Morrow gave up a couple of hits, but with two outs and Ruiz on 1st and Crawford on 3rd base Carlos Ruiz fired a pickoff throw to Adrian Gonzalez and got Renegade Ruiz napping to end the game. BETHESDA 9 – ROSEMERE 7 Win-Ross (8-4) Save-Morrow (10) Loss-Cedeno (0-3) HR-ROS: Craword (18); BET: Cain (12), Schoop (24) |
Series Summary: | A timely sweep that put some distance between Bethesda and Jersey. |
Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Triple Creek Patriots |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Long Beach (44-94) take on the pedestrian Patriots (65-73). |
Game #1: | Zack Wheeler pitches will until the home squad get to him in the 5th. Leading 4-1 after 5 full, the Dirt Bags battle back a bit but Triple Creek’s offense wouldn’t let them get too close. Marwin Gonzalez and Chase Headley go deep to Triple and Gamel for Beach.
LBD 3 TCP 7 W – Graveman (10) |
Game #2: | Tale of two parts.
Long Beach strikes in the 1st for a pair but Triple Creek plates 3 and 3 separate occasions. Triple Creek pounds out 17 hits to Long’s 8 which leads us to part two. Step right up folks and spin the “Wheel of Woe”… Bradley Zimmer out for 12 days and Amed Rosario for 30! Patriot skipper felt good about losing Marwin Gonzalex for just 5. LBD 2 TCP 11 W – Newcomb (4) |
Game #3: | Tyler Anderson was masterful in a 3 hit shutout. Striking out 11 he allowed just 2 walks and nobody past 2nd base. The Dirt Bag offense barely got the job done though with Valbuena driving in the sole run.
LBD 1 TCP 0 W – Anderson (6) |
Game #4: | This game was about as even as they come. Hits 10-11, LOB 10-10 and runs 4-3.
Alex Wood pitches a great 7 inning 1 run game and leaves with a 2 run lead, unfortunately Jennings and Reed can’t hold it so extra’s are needed. Long Beach scores a run in the 8th and 9th to send it late. Who gets the call in the 10th? Drew Anderson! Two batters and two hits later, game over, Patriots win!! LBD 3 TCP 4 W – Goeddel (1) |
Game #5: | Jeremy Hellickson and A.J. Griffin both get their teams late into the game with great efforts. Tied 2-2 after 8 full, R Rodriguez climbs the hill for the 9th and falters. A walk, a ground out and a single later the Patriots claim there 2nd 1-run victory in a row.
LBD 2 TCP 3 W – Soria (5) |
Game #6: | Woe is me, part deux.
Off a great start, Zack Wheeler tosses 5.1 innings of shutout ball until he spikes a 48 footer, he will pitch again sometime in 2019 as he goes down for 32 days. Once Wheeler picks his arm up the ground, action continues in the bottom half of the 7th with Long Beach up 5-0. Therrien and Rodriguez quickly give up 6 runs in two innings, leaving the Dirt Bags down 1 to start the 9th. Long Beach scores in top half to tie the game but Drew Anderson throws but a single pitch in the 9th to Chisenhall and the game is decided. A tough catch in the gap to Kiermaier turned into a 4-bag error and a third successive 1-run W for Triple Creek. LBD 6 TCP 7 W – Law (2) |
Series Summary: | Injuries outnumbered saves 5-0 in the 6 game set and Triple Creek comes out on top 5-1. |
Tempe Tempers @ Pittsburgh Lumber Company |

Game #3: | Wacha helped himself in the 4th with a two out RBI and Gallo made it 3-0 with a triple in the same inning. Tempe loaded the bases in the 6th and Matt Adams crushed a grand slam to put Tempe on the board and up 4-3. A Delmoinco pinch hit homerun in the 8th tied it. Little used Willie Calhoun came off the bench and hit his first homerun of his career to give Tempe the 5-4 lead in the 9th. Tempe 5-4 |
Game #4: | Unlike the first three games, this one wasn’t settled in the 9th. Darvish went seven strong innings and Moustakas and Marisnick both went deep. Pittsburgh 7-1 |
Game #5: | A Braun homerun put Tempe up early. Owings hit a timely double that cleared the bases in the 3rd after an error had extended the inning. Tempe came back in the 4th scoring four runs to go back up 5-3. Ozuna, Beltre, and Cespedes all homered later in the game to put it out of reach. Tempe 9-4 |
Game #6: | Gattis rbi single in the 8th broke a 4-4 tie and a Bogaerts triple made it 7-4 Tempe. Polanco slugged a two run double in the bottom of the 8th to bring Pittsburgh back within one run. In the 9th, Braun had a rbi single and Cespedes hit a pinch hit two run homerun. Bell slugged a solo homerun in the bottom of the 9th but that was all the Lumber Jacks could manage. Tempe 10-7 |
