Portland  Lumber Jax @ Jersey  Nor’easters

Series Preview:  It’s the 2018 home opener for the Jersey Nor’easters as they face the Portland Lumber Jax.
Game #1:  Matt Garza lasts only 3 innings giving up 5 runs as Portland coasts to a 10-5 win. Cessa gets the win, Conforto and Pillar go deep for the Lumber Jax.
Game #2:  Again with the poor pitching performance from the Nor’easters. This time Vince Velasquez last only 3 innings giving up 5 runs and the Lumber Jax come away with a 6-4 win. Although pitching poorly Kyle Freeland picks up the win for Portland.

Series Summary:  After a rocky start dropping the first 2 games the Nor’easters come back winning 4 games in a row and take the series 4-2. It’s going to be long year for both teams as neither has any starting pitching. On the bright side for Jersey, they slug 14 homes in 6 games.

Manhattan  Project @ Southbend  Lynx

Series Preview:  Two teams playing out the season looking for better days.
Game #1:  Pretty much all Manhattan as Tanaka goes 7 scoreless and Manhattan puts up 7 runs on 14 hits. Aoki is 3-4 with a run and RBI. But the Manhattan offense was spread out as 7 different players have RBI’s.
Manhattan 7, Southbend 2
Game #2:  This game is all Manhattan as they score 11 runs in the first 3 innings. Due to the extra inning games in the last series Southbend leaves Pivetta in through 5 innings to take it for the team. Manhattan hits 5 HRs in the game. A.Cabrera goes 3-6 w/2 HRs and 5 RBI. Ramos is 3-5 w/2b & HR and 4 RBI. Southbend does get 6 runs but its was too little.

Manhatten 15, Southbend 6

Game #3:  Ty Bl;ach looks good for Southbend through 4 but gets rocked for 7 in the 5th with the big hit being a N.Cruz Grandslam! Game was kinda close at 8-5 until Manhatten put it away with 2 in the 8th and 3 in the 9th. G.Hernandez goes 5-6 with 3 runs and 2 rbi. Bowman gets the win in relief. Altuve has big game for Southbend going 4-5 w/2b & HR, 2 runs and 3 rbi.

Manhattan 13, Southbend 6

Southbend 8, Manhattan 0

Game #6:  Best game of the series. Manahttan jumps out to 4-0 lead after 2 innings. Big hits for Manhattan are a Haniger 2-run HR in the 1st and RBI-1bs by Realmuto and Aoki in the 2nd. Southbend gets a run back in the B2 on a Blash rbi-2b. Southbend bullpen shuts down Manhattan the rest of the way. Southbend gets 2 in the 8th on this play: * E. ESCOBAR facing C. ALLEN, B 8th, 1 Out, 1st and 2nd, Behind 1-4 The runners take their lead … he wheels and deals … ESCOBAR lashes one to right … base hit AOKI takes it on the bounce … FORSYTHE will try for home … the throw … way over his head! and the run scores … ALLEN’s backing up … the throw to third and he throws it right by SEAGER … LOWRIE breaks for home … he will score and ESCOBAR will try for home … here comes HERNANDEZ’s throw … on the bounce ESCOBAR barrels into REALMUTO … out at the plate! … he held on to the ball oh, those, PROJECT … they snuff out the tying run … REALMUTO’s down … but he seems to be OK. But thats all she wrote as Swarzak comes on in the 9th to close it out for Manhattan.

Manhattan 4, Southbend 3

Series Summary:  Manhattan takes the series 4-2 with a lot of offense.

Valdosta  Snappers @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  NL East Bethesda hosts the Valdosta Snappers in the first homestand of the year for the Bandicoots.
Game #1:  Sonny Gray’s shaky start is offset nicely by the continuing hot hitting by Lorenzo Cain as the Bethesda outfielder singles and homers to lead the home team to a 5-3 win over the visiting Snappers.
Seth Smith had three hits including a pair of doubles to lead Valdosta in a losing effort, but failed to factor into the scoring. Texas Rangers’ slugger Drew Robinson hit his 3rd homer of the season and drove in two runs for Valdosta.
Gray (2-0) helped himself out by singling and driving in a run in his two at bats in the game. Jon Jay added two hits scored and drove in a run for Bethesda. Steve Cishek put up his first save of the season.
Game #2:  Kurt Suzuki’s single off Bethesda starter Rich Hill drove in Aaron Altherr in the first inning but then the offense dried up as Bethesda came back to tie it up in the 5th and then add runs late in the game to take a 4-1 win.
Lorenzo Cain continued to hit, homering for Bethesda for the 2nd straight day off
reliever Arodys Vizcaino in the 8th. Ender Inciarte had three hits for Valdosta
Altherr crashed into the wall to try and make a play on David Peralta’s fly ball in the bottom of the 1st inning and knocked himself out of the lineup for the next 10 days.
Miguel Gonzalez fell to 0-2 on the season despite pitching well for 6 innings allowing just two runs on four hits while fanning five and walking one.
Steve Cishek picked up his second save in as many days.
Game #3:  In a sample of things to come, Erasmo Ramirez imploded in the top of the 11th allowing three base hits as the Snappers pummelled the Bandicoots righty for a 4-1 extra-inning win.
Undeservedly, Brandon Morrow got tagged with the loss cuz Ramirez was too shitty to keep Josh Donaldson from coming around to score after Morrow walked the Blue Jays’ 3rd baseman and now Valdosta shortstop.
Jose Peraza and Seth Smith each had two hits for Valdosta. Craig Kimbrel got the well-deserved win after the jerk tossed three no-hit innings and fanned four in the process.
Jon Jay had two hits for Bethesda which only managed to get four in the game.
Game #4:  Anthony Rendon and David Peralta homered off starter Kenta Maeda to give the Bandicoots a 3-1 edge in the series and a 6-2 win over the Snappers.
Peralta, Lorenzo Cain and Jon Jay supplied the bulk of the offense for Bethesda each getting two hits with Peralta driving in three runs with his 3-run shot in the 5th when Bethesda was down 2-1.
Ender Inciarte, Seth Smith and Jose Peraza each had two hits for Valdosta which accounted for all of the Snappers’ offense. One of Peraza’s hits carried out of the ballpark – it was his 1st of the season as were those by Rendon and Peralta for Bethesda.
Jake Arrieta (1-2) went 8 strong for Bethesda striking out eight and allowing just five hits. Maeda fell to 1-1 with five iffy innings in which he gave up six hits, five runs, walked three and K-ed four.
Game #5:  Starters Collin McHugh and Alex Cobb were brilliant, holding both teams scoreless through nine innings, but Anthony Rendon’s seeing eye single in the 11th proved the distance as it allowed David Peralta to race around from 2nd base to score and give the Bandicoots a 1-0 win.
Mchugh allowed only three hits in his 9 shutout innings and struck out seven and walked three while Cobb also gave up three hits but fanned nine and walked two.
Ryan Tepera (2-0) got the win after tossing a hitless 11th for Bethesda. Arodys Vizcaino (0-1) nabbed the loss after allowing the run after not getting an out in the 11th.
Game #6:  Erasmo (apparently the Spanish translation for the term “total and complete crap”) Ramirez exploded for the second time in the series giving up five runs in the 7th inning as the Snappers valiantly fought back from a 8-2 deficit to win 9-8 thanks to a two-run blast by Josh Donaldson off Steve Cishek in the top of the 9th.
Donaldson’s 4th homer of the season just made it over the outstretched glove of Lorenzo Cain in centre field to cap the great comeback. Ender Inciarte continued to hit clutch out of the leadoff spot scoring twice and adding two RBIs to give him 9 in just 13 games for Valdosta.
Jose Torres (1-0) got the win and Craig Kimbrel save #3 with one hitless inning each. Cishek fell to 0-1 with his first blown save and first runs allowed of the season.
Anthony Rendon and Travis Shaw (who got the start in place of slumping Logan Morrison) each had two hits for Bethesda.
Ramirez was deposited in a landfill following the game which for the second time in the season was lost entirely due to his incompetence but the scumbag managed to dodge the “L” on both occasions.
Series Summary:  Bethesda wins four of six games, Valdosta wins two and Erasmo (the Shitbag) Ramirez loses two.

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Triple Creek kicks off the season with a depleted line-up after massive casualties last week. Patriots carrying extra arms for the initial home stand against Columbus.
Game #1:  Strahm can only last 3 innings as Gordon, Blackmon and Zimmerman wear him out. Biangini covers 5.2 innings and gets zeroes from the pen. Teams combine for 27 safeties. Blackmon 4-4 w/ 2rbi, Gordon 3-6 w/ 2 runs and SB. Seager 3-4 w/ 4 RBI.

COL 11 TCP 5

WP – Biangini (1)
LP – Strahm (1)
SV – None

Game #2:  Patriots score single runs in the 1st and 2nd off Hughes and Columbus takes the lead with 3 runs over innings 3 and 4. Rusin allows a pinch-hit 3-run homer to Federowicz (who?) to blow the game in the 8th. Triple Creek pounds out 13 hits for their 1st home win of the season.

COL 4 TCP 7

WP – Crick (1)
LP – Rusin (1)
SV – Reed (1)

Game #3:  Columbus unloads with ELEVEN in the FIRST inning. Cotton started the fire and Stanek just fueled it more. Patriots battled back for some respectability collecting 13 more hits but Columbus tallied 19 hits (7 for extra bases) and a killer 9 walks. Blackmon 5-5 w/ 3 rbi double and triple, Zimmerman 2-4 w/ 4 RBI and HR, Choo 3-6 w/ 4 RBI. McCullers wins #1 with some great offensive support.

COL 16 TCP 8

WP – McCullers (1)
LP – Cotton (1)
SV – None

Game #4:  Game #4 brought something different to the ball park, solid pitching. Ervin Santana goes the distance while quieting down Triple Creeks hitting. Patriot’s Graveman allows just 2 runs over 6 innings. Joe Jimenez on in relief of him plunks both Flowers (13) and Martin (23) on the elbow, taking them both out for extended periods. The injury bug to start the season is spreading. The Explorers win it easily but pay a heavy price.

COL 4 TCP 0

WP – Santana (1)
LP – Graveman (1)
SV – None

Game #5:  Tomlin, Marinez and LeBlanc handle the pitching duties well while Blackmon goes off for a 6 RBI game. DeJong 3-5 with 2 RBI before colliding with Granderson and will now miss 18 games. A.J. Griffin ate some innings today but they were ugly.

COL 10 TCP 3

WP – Tomlin (2)
LP – Griffin (1)
SV -None

Game #6:  Biangini vs. Gausman, part two, goes Gausman’s way as he tosses 5 innings of shutout ball. Addison Reed took a 3-run lead into the top of the 9th but Columbus pops two solo shots out to make it a nail-biter. Gordon 4-4 w/ 2 SB paced Columbus but a 2-run shot by Bellinger in the 3rd was the game winner.

COL 2 TCP 3

WP – Gausman (3)
LP – Biangini (2)
SV – Reed (2)

Game #7:  Hughes pitches a nice game and the bullpen hold Triple Creek silent. Triple Creek used the game as a bullpen day and the staff performed decent. Blackmon wraps up a great series going 2-5 as Columbus spread the rbis across 4 hitters.

COL 4 TCP 2

WP – Hughes (1)
LP – Strahm (2)
SV – Robertson (1)

Series Summary:  Columbus takes 5 of 7 but suffer several injuries. Triple Creek is looking forward to getting multiple players back off the DL next series.

S. Pedro Strop (2)

Game #6:  Sacramento 4-1
W. Odrisamer Despaigne 1-0

Harsens Island  Walleye @ Tempe  Tempers

Series Preview:  Harsens Island made their first of hopefully many visits to Tempe. (No Hitter Alert in G4)
Game #1:  Meyer’s first start as a Temper was a little shaky, but Tempe’s pen pitched five scoreless innings to preserve the win. Votto had a solo homerun and Holland picked up his second save of the year.
Tempe 4-2
Game #2:  Walleye broke the game open in the 5th with a big Arenado multi run rbi double. Rodney surrendered a solo HR to Davis in the 9th before recording the final three outs for the save.
Harsens Island 7-5
Game #3:  Homeruns by Arenado and Beltran led the Walleye’s offense. Rodney gave up two runs in the 9th, but he had just enough to record his second save of the series. An Utley fielder’s choice ended up being the deciding factor.
Harsens Island 5-4
Game #4:  Two costly errors by Harsens Island in the 1st allowed three runs to score on only one hit. A bases loaded triple by Matt Adams puts the game out of reach in the 4th. Things got even uglier for the Walleye’s when Lester (on in relief) went deep…. For the no hitter – Chen and McCarthy pitched the first two innings, Infante and Yates each pitched two innings and Lester went the final three innings for the save. One walk by Lester prevented the game from being a perfect game.
Tempe 9-0
Game #5:  The Walleye jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. In the 4th, Diaz slugged an RBI triple and then scored in the inning to tie the game. Davidson solo put Harsens Island up for half an inning. A Cabrera rbi single tied it in the 5th and RBI hits from Castillo and Votto put Tempe up in the sixth. Tempe had three players get injured in the final three innings but held on to win.
Tempe 5-3
Game #6:  Young Ozzie Albies slugged two solo homeruns and a collection of eight Tempe pitchers battled to preserve the win.
Tempe 5-2
Series Summary:  Tempe rallied back to win the final three games and take the tough fought series 4-2. The unorthodox no hitter in G4, was a complete surprise for Tempe’s manager until we reached the end of the 8th.
