Columbus  Explorers @ Bethesda  Bandicoots
Series Preview
Columbus travels to Bethesda as a battle of division leaders unfolds. Bandicoots hold a 1 game edge on Pittsburgh in the NL East while Columbus’s lead has dwindled to 1/2 game over the Tempe Tempers – not as a result of Columbus slumping, but the Tempers are red hot – fiery chili peppers as hot as their  tempers.  Hearts go out to Nik this week as he’s dealing with a death in the family – Columbus is subbing for him. Prayers Nik.
Game #1:
Young takes a 1-0 lead into the 8th behind a Pierzinski HR (3), but Explorers plate 3 including a Cuddyer 2 run HR (4). Another in the 9th and the opener goes to Columbus.
COL 4-11-1 WP Pinder (1-0) S F.Rodriguez (10)
BET 1- 5-1 LP Matusz (0-4) BS (3)
Game #2: McCullers vs. Arrieta in this one and AGon and Pierzinski get rbis singles in the 4th and 5th for a 2-0 lead. Arrieta on cruise control until a Zimmerman 2 run homer in the 7th ties it up. Meanwhile Revere makes his 1st error of the season, then his 2nd, Carpenter makes one, and Holt make 2 – 5 errors for the Explorers – the last error leads to a run in the bottom of the 13th (yes, free baseball). The 2-2 tie extended the game. However, that run in the 13th was only half of what Bethesda needed to keep the game going. Columbus scored twice in the top half as Gordon, Revere and Blackmon get 3 straight hits.
COL 4-8-5 WP Chafin (4-2) S F.Rodriguez (11) 13 innings
BET 3-9-0 LP Miller (1-1)
Game #3:
Columbus breaks open a 1-1 tie with 3 in the 4th and 4 in the 5th and go on to win 9-1. Happ again gets great run support and gives up 5 hits and a run in 7 innings. Rendon and Ruiz get 2 hits each.
COL 9-12-1 WP Happ (10-1)
BET 1- 7-1 LP Gray (7-5)
Game #4:
After a day off the Bandicoots were hoping for big changes but Choo (3 hits, 2 rbis, HR (11), double) and Carpenter (2 hits, 2 rbis, HR (20), double) carry the Explorers to a 6-3 win. This in spite of 13 hit Bethesda attack – Cain and Peirzinski get 3 each.
COL 6-11-0 WP Chafin (5-2) S F.Rodriguez (12)
BET 3-13-0 LP Ross (2-6)ARod HBP will miss 1 day
Game #5:
Home town team had to wait until game 5 to take home a win. They do it behind the 3 hit CG shutout from Odorizzi – keeping his record perfect at 8-0. 2nd inning homers from Drew (7) and Ruiz (1) marred a good performance from Dickey, but Odorizzi wasn’t backing down.
COL 0-3-0 LP Dickey (5-7)
BET 4-7-1 WP Odorizzi (8-0)
Game #6:
Series finale again offers free baseball. This time it’s the Bandicoots who come from behind to tie the game. Explorers get 1 in the 1st and 2 in the 3rd but a Cain triple leads to 1 as he’s driven in by Arencibia (in for injured Ruiz – out 10 days). 2 more in the 7th tie it. Then an rbi triple from PH Brock Holt in the 10th makes it 4-3, then 5-3 as Romine drives him home off loser Salas. FRod gets save 4 in the series to close it out.
COL 5-10-0 WP O’Day (2-0) S F.Rodriguez (13) 10 innings.
BET 3- 7-1 LP Salas (1-2)
Series Summary
Columbus goes to Bethesda and leaves with a 5-1 series win (but will it be enough to stay ahead of Tempe)? Bandicoots might be looking up at the Lumber Company after this week.

Game #5:

Game #7:
Mark Buehrle (8-5) was masterful, allowing only one hit, a double to Dexter Fowler in the sixth. Fremont wins 3-0 to take the rubber game of the series.
Series Summary
