Sacramento  Capitals @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
OK – only 40 some odd games into the season and maybe one of the “recent” Columbus Explorers biggest series in their franchise history. Battle of NL Central leading Explorers (playing way over their heads) vs. NL West leading Sacramento Capitals – who just spent the farm to seriously bolster their pitching with Greinke and Albers (not to mention Hanley Ramirez). Will the new arms be the season swinger for the Caps – they sure are hoping so, will the Explorers crumble under the mounting pressure?
Game #1: Greinke gets the nod in his first game as a Capitals and he tosses a 2 hitter. Milone tosses a 4 hitter against him. Zack gave up no walks, Milone gave up 2 (and only went 6 innings). But his bullpen gave up nothing in 3 innings. Greinke fanned 9 and went 9. DeShields got an infield single in the 1st and steals 2nd. Moreland, with 2 outs, singles and DeShields scores, 1-0 Sacremento. In the 5th, DeShields gets his 2nd hit of the game and drives in Hanigan, who walked, was sacrificed to 2nd, reached 3rd on a passed ball. That made it 2-0. Did I mention Greinke pitches a shut-out?
SAC 2-4-0 WP Greinke (5-6) (1-0 for SAC)
COL 0-2-0 LP Milone (4-2)
Game #2: This one had more offensive excitement. Scherzer vs. Happ.
Lindor leads off with a homer (3). 1 out later, Valencia homers (9) for a 2-0 lead. Bottom half, Revere singles, Blackmon singles him to 3rd. Blackmon is caught stealing. Carpenter grounds out scoring Revere,2-1. Choo then walks, Zimmerman gets the infield single and Holts gets an rbi single, tie game. Bottom 5,  Carpenter unloads a 2 out, 3 run homer to make it 5-2. Happ happy! Top 6, Lindor leads off with another homer (4), 5-3. Happ finishes the 6th. Turns it over to Gilmartin – He goes 1.2 innings and leaves with when Lindor singles (3rd hit). O’Day in – Stanton goes OUT! for 2 run tying homer (15) for a blown save and
ruining a Happ win. But … Bottom of the 9th. Albers in and Cuddyer walks. Gordon singles – Cuddyer scampers to 3rd. Romine trots out to 3rd, Nunez  pinch hiting singles scoring Romine and ending the game.
SAC 5-6-0 LP Albers (1-2)
COL 6-12-0 WP O’Day (1-0) BS (1)
Game #3: Salazar vs. Santana
Teams split 2 runs each in the 1st that featured a Moreland 2 run shot (6). Then in the 6th Dickerson leads off with a HR (9) to make it 3-2. Moreland then dribbles one in the IF for a single, he goes to 2nd on a Pujols infield single. With GilMartin in, Flores singles to load the bases (1 out). Norris grounds to short for the inning ending DP, but on the pivot there was not chance at 1st and the Capitals take a 4-2 lead. Explorers get one back in their half of the 6th. Gregorson in to quell the rally. In the bottom of the 7th Gordon singles and scores on a 2 out single from Carpenter to tie the game. Bottom of the 9th, still knotted at 2, Albers pitching. Gordon singles again (3rd hit). Revere follows with a single, Gordon goes to 3rd. Blackmon up, infield in, Blackmon flies out but plenty deep for Gordon to score and win the game.
SAC 4-8-1 LP Albers (1-3) (0-2 with SAC) BS Gregorson (2)
COL 5-8-1 WP Rodriguez (3-0)
Game #4: After a day off – they resume. Garcia vs. McCullers.

Explorers get on the board first with 2 in the 2nd including a McCullers SF. Things are going real well for Lance until the 7th. Stanton walks then Moreland walks. Pujols then doubles scoring one. Chafin to pitch. Ken Johnson walks, Chafin out. O’Day in. Hunter up and he singles to RF, Moreland scores, DeShields scores, Johnson goes to 3rd. Norris up, WAIT – O’Day tosses it to 3rd and DeShields is out (missed the bag) – Hunter loses his single and the team loses a run. It’s 2-2. Norris up, flies to LF and Johnson tags and scores – 3-2 Caps and that’s the final. Cecil gets a 5 out save. O’Day gets his second BS of the series!
SAC 3-5-1 WP Garcia (6-1) S Cecil (2)
COL 2-4-0 LP Chafin (2-2) BS O’Day (2)

Game #5: Series tied 2-2. Greinke gets another start vs. Dickey.
Sacramento wastes no time getting Greinke support – 3 in the 1st another in the 2nd. Pujols hits a 3 run bomb in the opening inning (4). Columbus gets 2 back in the 3rd Blackmon SF and Carpenter double. But Norris gets 2 rbis and the Caps add 2 more runs to the Explorers 1 more and easily win 6-3. Zack goes 6.2 with 3 hits and 5 walks and 5 Ks and 3 runs (2 earned).
SAC 6-9-1 WP Greinke (6-6) (2-0 with SAC) S Cecil (3)
COL 3-4-0 LP Dickey (4-5)
Game #6: Finale with SAC up 3-2: Scherzer vs. Milone
Hunter drives in 1 in the 2nd, but Columbus comes back with 2 in the 3rd. They add another in the 6th as Gordon (2 hits) and Revere (3 hits) are cooking. Milone leaves after 6 and it looks good until the 9th. O’Day in (oh-oh). Valencia flies out. Pujols gets a 2 strike double. Dickerson in to PH and he doubles off O’Day to make it 3-2. Johnson walks. Rodriguez comes in. Moreland grounds out moving the runners. Hanley Ramirez comes in to PH and walks to load them up. DeShields up and Rodriguez pulls the string it’s all over.
SAC 2-7-0 LP Scherzer (7-2)
COL 3-9-0 WP Milone (5-2) S Rodriguez (8)
Series Summary
Series split 3-3, but it seems it was easy for Sacremento and hard for Columbus. Will be a fun season. Columbus goes on the road to Long Beach, Sacramento goes home to host Corktown.
