Game #4: |
VIR 11-0
8 innings of shut out ball by C.Archer sparked VIR to an easy win. Of course 16 hits will help you score runs and the Sluggers did that too. A.Rizzo had 3 doubles and a homer to go along with 4 RBI. C.Gomez had 2 hits for the Cannon. |
Game #5: |
VIR 5-4
Detwiler took the loss, Tillman the win. A.Ram gave VIR 3 runs when he connected on his 2nd homer of the year in the 6th inning. But, it took two RBI hits in the 8th to seal the win for VIR. Vargas left the yard for the Cannon. |

Sacramento Capitals @ Grand Haven Gators | |
---|---|
Series Preview |
NL West matchup on our hands here, as the division leader Sacramento Capitals travel west to take on the Grand Haven Gators. A few familiar faces on the team bus for the Capitals.
|
Game #1: |
Garcia (SAC) vs Loshe (GHG)
One of those previously mentioned familiar faces said his ‘hello’ quickly; Danny Valencia got the party started for the Capitals in the first, with a 3-run HR Valencia then adds to the Capital’s lead with a run scoring double in the 5th Top of the 8th, Garcia is lifted after a fine performance, for Corey Dickerson….who then gives the Grand Haven fans a souvenir with a 2-run shot. This game was all Sacramento; Grand Haven manages just 4 hits Game Final: SAC 7 – GHG 0 |
Game #2: |
Nelson (SAC) vs Hale (GHG)
4 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 3rd, chase Hale out of the game quickly. Nelson pitches a gem; a one hit shut out Game Final: SAC 10 – GHG 0 |
Game #3: | Matz (SAC) vs Chavez (GHG) The Capitals jump out early in the 1st, scoring 2. Sacramento’s DeShields is rung up in the 2nd, asked the Ump how his day was going (or at least what it sounded like he asked anyway); apparently the ump didn’t like the question and tossed him. Chavez goes 8 innings for the Gators, limiting the Caps’ to 3 runs on 11 hits. He is lifted in the 8th for a pinch hitter, CJ Cron – who pokes one out down the left field line for a 2-run pinch hit HR, bringing the Gators down to within 1; also scoring the first runs of the series for Grand Haven. It was not to last though, as Giancarlo Stanton takes Franklin Morales deep in the top of the 9th, with a 2-run HR Game Final: SAC 5 – GHG 2 |
Game #4: |
Scherzer (SAC) vs Morton (GHG)
In a rarity (or fluke some may call it) the Gators plate one run in the 1st, taking an early lead. The top of the 3rd, that ole familiar face shows up again;Â Danny Valencia sails a 3-run shot out into the home stands….not to be outdone in the inning, Gators SS Freddy Galvis says “I can do that too” and sends a solo shot over the RF wall. Scherzer and Morton both go 8 strong innings; another familiar face in closer Will Harris comes in for the Capitals in the 9th to seal the victory. Game Final: SAC 3 – GHG 2 |
Game #5: |
Salazar (SAC) vs Farmer (GHG)
Sacramento grabs a run in the top of the 4th to take the lead. Gators plate 2 in the bottom of the 6th to pull ahead. It didn’t take long for the Caps to respond, getting the tying run across, then Corey Dickerson belting a 3-run HR Game Final: SAC 5 – GHG 2 |
Game #6: |
Lynn (SAC) vs House (GHG)
Valencia does it again, firing a 2-run shot in the 1st to give the Capitals an early lead. Much the same story, Sacramento’s offense is very good. Grand Haven scatters a couple runs, but this game was all Sacramento from the start. Game Final: SAC 7 – GHG 2 |
Game #7: |
Garcia (SAC) vs Loshe (GHG)
A bit back-n-forth in the early innings; until the 6th when the Capitals put up a 3-run inning to take the lead for good. Game Final: SAC 6 – GHG 3 |
Series Summary |
The Capitals come in a take a series sweep from the Gators, taking all 7 games. Grand Haven was outscored 39-11 in the series. Danny Valencia was terrific in his return to Grand Haven, his line: 7-22 (.318), 4 R, 9 RBI, 1 2B, 3 HR Sacramento heads home to take on Triple Creek; Grand Haven goes on the road to New York

|
Game #2: |
John Lackey managed 8 strong innings. The Cougar defense let him down a bit, but the visitors held on for their 2nd straight win to begin the series.
DAL 6 – YSS 4
|
Game #3: |
A see-saw affair that needed bonus time. Travis D’Arnauds 3 run HR ended it for the home team in walk off fashion.
YSS 7 – DAL 4 (10)
|
Game #4: |
Patrick Corbin took his turn baffling the home team. Gregory Polanco led the way, going 3-5 with a pair of HRs and 3 RBI.
DAL 8 – YSS 4
|
Game #5: |
Gerrit Cole steadied the ship for YSS. Kris Bryant hit his 10th HR. Yang Solarte blasted a pair of HR in the losing effort for DAL.
YSS 5 – DAL 3
|
Game #6: |
Keuchel wanted to make sure he got his name out there for Pitcher of the Week consideration. Rasmus, Swihart and Solarte all went yard in the series ending blowout.
DAL 11 – YSS 2
|
Series Summary |
Dallas was entirely too strong for the home town Stalkers. Dallas Keuchel tossed 2 complete games, allowed 11H, 3BB, and K’d 28…not too shabby. The Cougars continue on to Mesa next week, while YSS welcomes Chicago.

Game #4: |
Dickey (2-1) vs. Wood (1-1)
After a much needed day off the Patriots showed up to play! Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th, the home squad hangs a 3-spot on Dickey, and then holds on for their first W of the series. Jennings picks up save #2 for the Patriots. COL 2 TCP 3 |
Game #5: |
Oberholzer vs. Graveman (0-1)
Graveman is rock solid through 6 innings but the wheels came off in the 7th (with the help of a few errors). After the dust settled in the top half of the 7th, Triple Creek would turn a 4-1 lead into a 7-4 deficit. Rodriguez picked up save #6 for the Explorers. COL 8 TCP 4 |
Game #6: |
Milone vs. De La Rosa
Both bullpens would empty in this 15 inning affair. Both teams had plenty of chances to score all day as 28 hits were recorded. Carpenter drives in the winning run as Columbus would plate 3 in the top of the 15th. Triple Creek would score 1 and leave runners on base to make it interesting in the bottom half but Hardy would hang on for his 1st save. COL 5 TCP 3 |
Series Summary |
Columbus easily takes 5 of 6 from the Patriots.

Bethesda Bandicoots @ Tempe Tempers | |
---|---|
Series Preview |
Bethesda comes to Tempe for a seven game series in a battle between power arms and all-star sluggers. Bethesda is currently on top in the East while Tempe sits in 3rd in the Central with a .500 record. Bethesda has allowed the fewest runs in the NL at 41 while Tempe leads the league in scoring at 106 runs. Though, Tempe was shutout in their last three games and seems to only win double digit blowouts.
|
Game #1: |
Tempe jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a Davis single, Votto double and a Cargo single. An rbi single by Shaw in the 5th put the Bandicoots on the board, but the Tempers responded with a run of their own on a Bogaert’s double. Tempe added two more in the 6th on doubles by Votto, Cano, and Beltre. Bethesda made it a two run game in the 7th when a Gonzo single scored two. Colabellow launched a solo home run in the 8th to make it a one run game, but Manship pitched a scoreless 9th. Tempe 5-4 Iwakuma, W – Ramierez, L – Manship, S
|
Game #2: |
Cain led off the game with solo homerun to give Bethesda the early lead. Tempe utilized a two out rally and two errors to score four runs in the bottom of the 1st. The Coots chipped away on the lead with a run in the 2nd and another run in the 3rd on a Colabello solo HR. They then went on top 5-4 in the 7th on a Rendon single, Colabello double, and a Shaw bloop single. Tempe tied it in the bottom half with doubles by Longoria and Cargo. A pinch hit solo shot by Melky gave Tempe the lead in the 8th. Goeddel pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th for the win.
Tempe 6-5 Goedell, W – Young, L |
Game #3: |
Bethesda sent Arrieta to the mound to right the ship and Tempe sent Cashner to the mound as the sacrificial offering. Both starters went the distance… However, the outcomes were very different. Cashner surrendered six runs in the first two innings and faced 45 batters over his 9 innings while Arrieta only gave up a solo homerun to Gattis and faced a modest 33 batters. Cain and Gonzo homered for the Bandicoots.
Bethesda 7-1 Arrierta, W – Cashner, L |
Game #4: |
The game was scoreless until Votto took Grey deep in the bottom of the 4th to give Tempe the early lead. Chen also looked great until he booted a simple grounder in the 5th and then followed it up with gopher ball to Cain. The Coots added another run in the inning on a Colabellow double to take a 3-1 lead. Tempe got a couple singles in the 5th, a nice bunt by Molina and then a timely double by Davis with two outs to tie it up at 3-3. A Votto walk and stolen base then setup the go ahead run in the 6th. Manship pitched the final 2.1 innings for the save.
Tempe 4-3 Thorton, W – Gray, L – Manship, S |
Game #5: |
Iwakuma was solid, but he surrendered two runs (1 earned) in the 3rd when Shaw hit a timely single up the middle. Ramirez seemed to struggle every inning, but he induced three double plays and stranded half a dozen runners over 7.1 innings. Chris Young pitched the final 1.2 innings for the save.
Bethesda 2-0 Ramirez, W – Iwakuma, L – Young, S |
Game #6: | In the 1st, Cain walked, stole second and scored on an Arod single to give Bethesda the early lead. Ross then gave it right back by walking four batters in the bottom of the inning. He somehow managed to get out of the inning with only Votto scoring when Beltre’s long fly was caught at the wall with bases loaded. Votto doubled in the second and scored again when Davis singled. In the 4th, Crush Davis launched his 8th homerun of the year to give Tempe a 5-1 lead. The Coots scored a run in the 7th and with two on, had the tying run at the plate. Manship made an early appearance to record the final out of the inning. Seven Tempe relievers pitched 7 innings of relief to preserve the victory. Tempe 5-2 Casilla, W – Ross, L – Goeddel, S |
Game #7: | Game three starters, Arrieta and Casher, were both tired so the Bandicoots called on Nicolino and the Tempers sent Chen on two days rest. Chen gave up a two run homer to Shaw in the 1st and only lasted three innings. Tempe scored a run in the second on a Cano RBI double and tied it in the 5th on a Beltre solo HR. A Shaw RBI single in the 6th put Bethesda back on top 3-2. In the bottom of the 9th, Nicolino went back out in search of the complete game victory. Two quick doubles by Votto and Melky and the score was tied 3-3. The score remained tied until the 12th. Tempe’s final rested reliever ran out of gas in the 11th, but a tired Jay Howell pitched a scoreless 12th. Howell then led off bottom of the inning with a single in his first (and probably only) at bat of the year. Cano moved him to 2nd on a fielders choice. The Coots walked Leon to setup the double play. Longoria now playing for Beltre singled to left to load the bases for Votto with one out. Votto thought he had the walk off walk, but an appeal to 3rd gave Salas a SO. With two outs, Cabrera singled home Howell for the win. Tempe 4-3 12 inn – Howell, W – Salas, L |
Series Summary |
Last week, Tempe out scored Columbus but lost 5 of 7. This week they were out scored by a potential World Series team and managed to win four 1 run games and take 5 of 7 games. Melky Cabrera was the surprise player of the series going 6 for 11 off the bench with three game winning or tying runs.
