Series Preview
The Long Beach fans are excited about their final series of the year as their team is playing for a playoff spot for the first time in team history.
Game #1:
Donaldson broke a 3-3 tie in the 11th when he singled in Victor Martinez in the Dirt Bags 4-3 win.
Game #2:
Long Beach took a 3-0 lead in the 4th on a Norris 3 run HR. They broke it open in the 7th when they scored 5 on their way to a 8-2 win. Holt had a key 2 run 1B in the inning to lead the rally. Dickey gave up 3 hits over 7 innings and improved to 14-11.
Game #3:
Long Beach took a 3-0 lead after 2 innings on SFs by Span & Victor Martinez and a RBI 1B by Ozuna. They held on for a 3-2 win. In the 8th with the score 3-1 Iron City loaded the bases with 1 out. Melancon came in and got Lombardozzi to fly out and make the score 3-2. He then retired the Yinzers in order to end the game and pick up his 43rd save. Ventura improved to 19-5.
Game #4:
Long Beach took a 2-0 lead into the 9th. With Melancon on the mound the home crowd felt the game was over. But he gave up 4 straight hits with Phegley and Andrus driving in runs to tie the game. Hosmer followed with a 2 run 1B to give Iron City the 4-2 win.
Game #5:
Chirinos hit a 2 run HR in the 5th to give Iron City a 4-3 lead. They added another run in the 9th and won 5-3. Danks pitched 7 strong innings to pick up the win.
Game #6:
Iron City took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 8th. Norris singled in the tying run and in the 9th Gennett drove in Dickerson with the winning run in the Long Beach 4-3 win. The Dirt Bag bullpen threw 5 hitless innings to keep the game close.
Series Summary
Long Beach won 4 of the 6 games to move closer to a wild card berth.

 

Traverse City  Crusaders @ Chicago Mobsters
Series Preview
Chicago heads up the thumb into the Cherry Festival capital of Michigan & take on the Traverse City Crusaders.
Game #1:
Chicago gets 2 in the 9th & Aroldis Chapman holds it for Save #41 on the season.

Game #2:
David Phelps (2-5 3.34) picks up the win, Luke Gregerson picks up Save #29 for the Crusaders.

Justin Morneau is 3 for 5 with 7 RBI’s, Michael McKenry is 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Marcus Stroman is injured for 11 days. This one is all Chicago.

Trevor Bauer (12-6 5.17) goes 6 Innings. Luke Gregerson holds on for Save #30. Brett Gardner is 3 for 4 & Drew Stubbs & Todd Frazier chips in with 2 RBI’s apiece.

Game #6:
Felix Hernandez (27-1 1.21) allows 1 Hit (solo HR to Brian Dozier), 1 Walk, while Striking Out 9 over 8 Innings. Ender Inciarte is 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s.

Series Summary
Chicago takes the series 4 games to 2. Some players get rested for Chicago as they take on the Bottle Rockets of Tijuana in the last series of the year next week. Which could be a Division Series Preview – that is if the Bottle Rockets can make it past the Crime from Detroit in the Wild Card Round.

Series Preview
Selkirk travels to Grand Haven, as the Steelers take on the Gators in a 6-game series, featuring two teams with nothing to play for.

Floyd (SEL) vs Morton (GHG)

2 solo HRs by the Gator’s Junior Lake and a solo HR from Zealous Wheeler were the only offense in this game

Hammel (SEL) vs House (GHG)

Grand Haven takes an early 1-0….Steelers score 2 in the 5th and hold on the rest of the way

Much the same story as the first couple games, very low scoring between these two clubs. Gators pull out the win

A little more offense in this game here folks, and exciting finish. Both teams scrap out double-digit hit totals (Grand Haven 15, Selkirk 10) Selkirk holds a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Amarista leads off the inning with a solo HR. Tolleson reaches on a throwing error. Next two batters are retired by Soria. Walters steps up and puts one over the fence, giving the Gators the walk off win

Alvarez (SEL) vs Burnett (GHG)

Alvarez pitches a very solid game – complete game, 3-hitter allowing only 1 run.

18 INNINGS before a single run scores!!!!

The Steelers finally plate a run in the 18th when Heisey triples to start the inning. Two batters later, Teagarden bounces a chopper to second, scoring the runner from third and becoming the 2nd out of the inning…..Gators have no answer in the bottom half of the inning, as this long game comes to a close.

Selkirk 1 – Grand Haven 0 (18 Innings)

Series Summary
This 6-game series basically turned into a 7-game series with that 6th game going 18 innings of play. Series is split 3 games a piece Selkirk stays on the road for their final series of the year, heading to Columbus Grand Haven remains at home to finish the season against the NL West Division leaders, Clovis.

 

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
Jersey Nor’easters (77-73) still clinging to a chance for the NL East title brings their hopes to the NL Central doormat Columbus Explorers (64-86). They’ve been hot lately, except last week they got shellacked by the Tempe Tempers. What’s in store for the penultimate series for the 2015 season.
Game #1:
Nor’easters open up with 3 in the 1st – Coughlan 3 run homer (10). Explorers begin to chip a way with runs in the 2nd and 3rd, but a 3 run 5th gives them the lead. Tomlin settles in after the 1st and Nor’easters can only manage 1 more run (in the 9th) as Columbus takes the opener.

3rd inning gets all the scoring. Nor’easters get 2, Martin triples in 1 and scores on Gregorius SF for 2-0 lead. Bottom half Desmond cracks a 2 run homer (21) and a Dunn double leads to a Carpenter rbi to make it 3-2 Col. The Magic Man – Oberholtzer goes 6 giving up 2 (and 7 Ks) and Varvaro and Dunn close it out.

Another 4-0 shutout – this time tossed by Tepesch of the Explorers. CG, 5 hits, 7 Ks. Carpenter gets 2 rbis and hits, Desmond launches a solo shot (22).

Montero in a collision at home with Revere suffers a 5 day injury.
Game #5:
Milone cracks a 2 run double in the 5th to give the Explorers a 6-4 lead (coming back from a 3-1 deficit). Duda solo shot (35) part of the 3 run scoring.  Nor’easters chip 1 away in the 6th. Milone leaves for PH in the 6th and Hardy goes the 7th and 8th shuting down Jersey. Dunn, in for the save, gives up a 2 run  HR to Duda (36), his 2nd of the game and the Nor’easters pull a Columbus and snatch the game at the wire.

Series finale – Columbus gets 3 in the 1st and 3 in the 4th. Jersey scores 2 in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, 1 in the 6th. Makes it 6-4 and stays that way into the 9th. Varvaro in, he gives up 1 hit, but gets the other 3 batters to save the game. Pena (3) hits a 2 run shot. Lincecum, in in relief, leaves the game with a 5 day injury.

Series Summary

Series Preview
Teams are knotted at 71-80 to start the series.
Game #1:

Harang (11-8) vs. Buchholz (12-5)

Buchholz fires a 6 hit no walk shutout for win number 13. Chisenhall drives in 2 for the Patriots.

Kuroda (8-13) vs. Vargas (11-7)

Kuroda is hit hard in the 2nd for 4 runs. Vargas allows 2 runs in the 1st but that would be all the Triple Creek hurlers allow. Vargas wins number 12 and Leone collects his 23 save.  Chisenhall 2-4, Pierzynski and Headley each drive in 2.

Game #3:

Peavy (9-10) vs. Gausman (6-5)

Gausman delivers in his last start of the year, going 8 and allowing just 2 runs, no walks and 8 K’s. Peavy made it through the first 3 innings but was touched for 6 over the 4th and 5th innings.  Headley 3-4 w/ 3 rbi

Game #4:

Noesi vs. Frias

A couple back of the rotation starters filling some innings late in the stretch. Both pitched decent by reaching the 5th inning. With the score tied 4-4 going into the 9th, Leone couldn’t hold the Outlaws down as they plate 2. Jansen blows the save but Rodney gets the save.  A. Ramirez 2-5 w/ 2 rbi, Ortiz 2 rbi

Game #5:

Hamels (15-8) vs. De La Rosa (4-12)

Advantage Outlaws on paper but Rubby is dealin’ this day. De La Rosa allows just 1 run and just 4 hits as Triple Creek played small ball to squeeze out a couple runs and the victory, denying Hamels a 16th win.

Kuroda (8-14) vs. Buchholz (13-5)

The Outlaws couldn’t solve Buchholz in game 1 and Clay continued his Dream Weaving with another shutout. Buchholz allows 6 hits (again) and no walks (again), holy freaking cow.

Series Preview
It’s the haves vs the have nots as first place goes against last place. Manhattan needs two wins to clinch the AL East crown.Dallas comes into the final home series of the year in 4th place in the AL East 21 games back. On the league leader boards they’re 8th in batting at .224 and 4th in stolen bases with 88. Their home record is 24 and 51.Manhattan enters their final road series of the year in 1st place in the AL East. On the league leader boards they’re 10th in batting at .223 and 4th in ERA at 2.68. Their road record is 40 and 35.
Game #1:
Dallas Keuchel pitches a complete game shutout for the Cougars allowing just 4 hits while punching out 8.

Game #2:
Guthrie was taken out early to avoid the possibility of reaching 20 losses since he’ll probably pitch twice in the last series and 5 relievers helped kept the game scoreless through 10 innings for Dallas.The Project would win the game in the top of the 11th with a two out triple by Denorfia.

Game #3:
The Project put up crooked numbers in the 2nd and 6th innings while Dallas didn’t get their first hit until Pollock tripled leading off the 8th inning.The victory gives Manhattan the Division as they celebrate with champagne showers in the locker room.

Game #4:
The Dallas bullpen blows a 2-1 lead by giving up 4 runs in the last two frames.
Final Score: Manhattan 5, Dallas 2
Game #5:
A 4 hit complete game victory for the Project’s Smyly who struck out 9.
Final Score: Manhattan 5, Dallas 1
Game #6:
A double in the bottom of the 8th by Uggla gave Dallas a 3-2 lead, but Hawkins blows his 6th save of the year allowing 2 runs of 3 hits.
Final Score: Manhattan 4, Dallas 3
Series Summary
Manhattan takes the series 5 games to 1 and looks forward to the playoffs after next weeks final series. Dallas reaches 100 losses for the 4th year in a row.

Series Preview
Tijuana @ Motor City for a 6 game series
Game #1:

TIJ 11 – MCM 3

HR: Pinto, Encarnacion (2), Young, Galvis

Tijuana scored early and often. Encarnacion had 5 RBI on 2 HRs.  Chris Young had 2 of the 3 RBIs for Motor City.

Game #2:

TIJ 12 – MCM 3

HR: Castellanos, Zobrist, Upton, Blanco

Grienke was injured while warming up (out 5 days), so Neal Cotts had to make an emergency start. Motor City again scores first, but Tijuana scores most. Upton and Bautista led the RBI parade with three each.

SV: Ramos

HR: Trout

Tijuana jumped out to a lead, but Trout’s 2-run HR in the 5th allowed Grimm to out-duel Kluber.

Game #4:

MCM 7 – TIJ 6 (13 inn.)

WP: Roth
LP: Layne

HR: Grossman

Tijuana had a 4-0 lead by the 3rd inning, then MCM tied it in the bottom of the inning. Scoring was put on hold until TIJ scored two in the top of the 8th. And MCM tied it in the bottom of the frame. After 4 innings of shutout ball by A.J. Ramos, Roth got the win when Loney drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 13th.

HR: Bautista, Trout, Pinto, Puig, Encarnacion

Leake was victimized by the long ball, four of them (three in a row in the 7th inning). Bautista’s three-run blast in the first set the tone.

TIJ 6 – MCM 5

LP: Blevins
SV: Layne

HR: Valaika, G. Sanchez

Tijuana jumps out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st on a pair of sac flies. They add to it in the 2nd and 3rd. Valaika’s 2-run HR made it 4-2. Pui’s second RBI made it 5-2, then MCM rallied to tie it in the 8th. With a worn out Ramos in the dugout, MCM’s bullpen couldn’t hold in in the 9th.

Series Summary

TIJ takes the series 4 games to 2.

TIJ had 10 HRs (3 by Encarnacion), and MCM had 8 (2 by Trout).

W. Wright won two games for TIJ

 

Tempe  Tempers @ Pittsburgh  Lumber  Company
Series Preview
The Lumber Company hosted the Tempers for six games. Kemp looked to show Tempe what they missed out at the trade deadline and Cano looked to pad his MVP season.
Game #1:
Tempe launched five homeruns and coasted to an easy victory. Kennedy took his frustrations out on Chen’s back forcing him to leave early and miss the easy win. Beltre had two homeruns and four rbi.
Tempe 13-3
Game #2:
Tempe slapped out five hits and three runs in the first. Then hung on for the win. Kemp hit a two run RBI triple, but the rest of the Lumber Co. was quiet.
Tempe 3-2
Game #3:
Tempe pounded out 17 hits and never looked back. Cano went 3 for 6 with four RBI. Cabrera was 4 for 6.
Tempe 11-3
Game #4:
Hitting continued as Tempe put up 16 hits. Beltre went 4 for 5 with three RBI. Cabrera was 4 for 5.
Tempe 8-1
Game #5:
Lumber Company had an early lead on a Sierra two run RBI double after the first inning. A Tulo solo brought Tempe within in one after three innings. Molina hit a two run single with two outs in the sixth that put Tempe up. Tempe’s pen threw eight scoreless innings after Wada left early.
Tempe 3-2
Game #6:
Lumber Company again jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a Kemp two run HR. A Cargo two run double tied it in 2nd. The score remained tied until the 7th when Cabrera hit a two run rbi single. Iwakuma picked up his 13th win.
Tempe 5-2
Series Summary
The Lumber Company were out hit 80 to 29 over the six games. Tempe was also able to get a couple breaks during the three close games. Cano increased his league leading average to .340 and put an exclamation point on his MVP season.

 

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Clovis  Wheat  Kings
Series Preview
1st place Bethesda heads west for a possible playoff preview with 1st place Clovis.
Game #1:
Clovis 8 Bethesda 4 Wheat Kings pound 4 round trippers to upend the ‘Coots. Murphy does it twice along with Crawford and Castro one each.
Game #2:
CWK 4 BET 2 (11 innings)
Arrieta and Cashner are both superb but neither is around for the exciting Marlon Byrd 11th inning walk off two run blast.
Game #3:
CWK 8 BET 5
Lohse wins his 18th game of the year and Byrd (27) and Castro (21) both go deep. Bandicoots are clearly trying to get some innings in for some hurlers that might otherwise not survive the post season free agent roster trimming.
Game #4:
BET 4 CWK 1
All Sonny Gray today. The brilliant young Bandicoot hurler tosses a complete game 3 hitter with 11 strikeouts. If that wasn’t enough he also knocked in the winning run in a 3 run eighth inning rally that broke 1-1 tie.
Game #5:
CWK 4 BET 2
Alex Torres blows the save in the seventh when he allows a pair of inherited runners to score but notches the win when Adam LaRoche picks him up with a 2 run jack in the bottom of the inning off of Perez.
Game #6:
BET 7 CWK 5
Adrian Gonzalez slugs his 38th homer and drives in 4 to lead the Bandicoots. Marco Estrada labors through 40 batters to deliver a complete game for Bethesda.
Series Summary
Clovis takes 4, Bethesda grabs 2 as both teams keep an eye toward providing enough playing time to keep everyone on the bench happy.Clovis still holds a 4 game lead over Long Beach while Jersey is on life support now, 5 games behind heading into the final series of the season.

 

Sacramento  Capitals @ Valdosta  Snappers
Series Preview
Sacramento visits south Georgia in hot and humid Valdosta.
Game #1:
Sacramento 5-4
Phil Hughes (12-15) ran out of gas as the Capitals sneak past the Snappers.
Game #2:
Valdosta 2-1
Juan Francisco’s 2 run HR was all Tim Hudson (14-12) and the bullpen needed for the win. Kimbrel saved his 36th and lowered his ERA to 0.58.
Game #3:
Valdosta 13-5
Mesoraco homered twice for the Capitals but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Snappers blow past for the easy win.
Game #4:
Sacramento 2-1
Ross (8-18) allowed just 3 hits as the Capitals win.
Game #5:
Valdosta 9-2
Teheran (15-10) gets the easy win. Mark Reynolds hit his 24th HR of the year for the Snappers.
Game #6:
Valdosta 3-2 (12 Innings)
Cody Ross hit a 12th inning 2B and scored on a 2 base error to make a winner of Zach Duke (7-1).
Series Summary
Snappers win 4 of 6.

 

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Virginia  Sluggers
Series Preview
Hollywood has it wrapped up and they get to take om 2nd place Virginia. Shouldn’t be a problem…
Game #1:

VIR 1-0

One of the few bright spots, C.Tillman, outduels D.Price. Tillman throws a CG 3-hitter and improves to 16-9. The only run came on A.Rizzo’s 23rd homer.

Game #2:

VIR 4-3

Scherzer shaky but Walkers 2-run shot in the 2nd and Rizzo’s RBI single in the 8th improves his record to 18-9.

Game #3:

HOL 4-2

T.Plouffe knocks in 3 runs and Buchanan improves to 12-4.

Game #4:

HOL 10-0

Cueto, 24-4, tosses a CG NO HITTER as he drops his era to 2.00. Yelich, Gordon, and Plouffe all leave the yard. Yelich goes 3-6 with 4 RBI.

Game #5:

HOL 5-1

Kershaw, 26-2, throws a 2-hitter as hapless VIR is tied up again. Castro and Gordon go deep.

Game #6:

HOL 11-0

Adding insult to injury, HOL cranks out 16 hits and Price throws a CG 5 hit Shutout. Kinsler 3-5 with 4 RBI and Plouffe 3-5 with 5 RBI led the offense.

Series Summary
HOL takes it 4-2. Other than the first two games HOL pretty much had their way with VIR

 

Fremont  Cannons @ Yonge Street  Stalkers
Series Preview
2 teams limping to the finish…
Game #1:
Juan Nicasio vs. Joe Kelly!! It lived up to all the hype. Both starters went 7+ and allowed 1 earned run. The home teams pen was subpar.
FRE 3 – YSS 1
Game #2:
Once again, the SP were evenly matched. They both went 7(ish) and gave up 3 runs apiece. Alas, the YSS pen was sub par for a second straight game.
FRE 5 – YSS 3
Game #3:
Cole was awesome. 8 shutout IP, 3H, 1BB, 11K. The YSS pen again gave up a run, but it didn’t matter today.
YSS 6 – FRE 1
Game #4:
4 ugly errors were the difference in this one. Soler had two 2B and a HR in a losing effort.
FRE 6 – YSS 3
Game #5:
FRE scored 2 in the 5th to take the lead 3-2. Both pens locked it down and that was the final.
FRE 3 – YSS 2
Game #6:
Nicasio was a bit better than Shields.
FRE 3 – YSS 1
Series Summary
The Cannons storm into YSS and take 5 of 6. FRE heads to MAN to finish the season, while YSS will host DET.
