Prairie Falcons @ Tempe Tempers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Prairie visits Tempe for a short five-game series. Tempe swept on the road last week and currently has a nine-game winning streak, while the Falcons are stuck in a four-game losing streak. |
| Game #1: | Freeman put Tempe on the board in the first inning with a two-RBI triple. Springer added a two-run homer in the 3rd, and Raleigh singled in a couple more runs in the 4th. DeGrom was effectively wild with three walks and two HB, but no runs. Trout took one of the HB’s off his elbow and was injured for six games. Whisehunt and DeGrom both hit the showers in the 6th. Raleigh added a two-run homer off the pen. Tempe 8-0 |
| Game #2: | Yamamoto allowed a solo shot to Abrue in the 2nd and then put up zeros until the 7th. Lee’s RBI single tied it in the 3rd, and Soto’s solo homer in the 4th gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead on Kolek. Story and Garcia added insurance runs for Prairie in the 6th and 7th. Yamamoto gave up solo shots to Ramirez and Raleigh in the 7th and 8th, making it a one-run game. In the top of the 9th, Prairie put two runners on, and Tempe brought in Santanna to try and keep it close. The Falcons countered with a pinch hitter, and Wynns launched a three-run homer to give the Falcons a 7-3 lead. It looked like the game was under control, so Yamamoto turned it over to the pen in the 9th. Williams got the first two outs and then allowed Tempe to load the bases. Springer pinch hit for Crawford with the bases loaded and slapped a two rbi single to cut the lead to two runs. With Raliegh coming up to the plate as the go ahead run, the Falcons yanked Williams and brought on the closer Fairbanks…”RALEIGH leans into it … it’s hammered high and hard to right, and the ball does a disappearing act … it’s long gone!… it’s all over!” Tempe 8-7 |
| Game #3: | Pasquantino took Pepiot deep in the first for a three-run homer. A Raleigh solo homer, Pasquantino’s two-RBI triple, and a wild pitch made it 7-0 in the 3rd. Benintendi’s two-run homer in the 6th ended the shutout. Tempe 8-2 |
| Game #4: | Tempe loaded the bases in the first on Crochet, and Polanco hit a grand salami. Prairie got one back off Verlander, who took a no-hitter into the 6th and only allowed one unearned run. Jackson and Freeman went deep in the 6th and 7th to make it 6-1 and add two important runs. Soto crushed a three-run homer in the 8th off Mattson to cut the lead down to two runs. Munoz locked down the 9th for his 40th save, and Verlander’s 302nd career win. Tempe 6-4 |
| Game #5: | Springer’s RBI single gave Tempe the lead in the 1st. Story tied it with a solo in the bottom of the 2nd. Pasquantino’s RBI single broke the 1-1 tie in the 3rd. Freeman smacked a two rbi double, and Ramirez singled him home to make it 5-1 in the 4th. Freeman added a three-run homer in the 6th, and Raleigh went deep in the 8th. Tempe 9-2 |
| Summary: | Tempe scored 39 runs on Prairie in the five games and extended their winning streak to 14 games. Yamamoto should have won game two, but the Falcons’ pen surrendered five runs in the bottom of the 9th with two outs. Raleigh made a strong case for another player of the week with five home runs, including a walk-off three-run blast. |
Triple Creek Patriots @ Columbus Explorers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Triple Creek is nearing clinching the NL East – big lead, Columbus still in the thick of a playoff wildcard spot – and coming off a disaster week in Chicago, where, once again, they showed they have tough times with good teams. |
| Game #1: | Three-run Triple Creek 1st inning off Will Warren, and it doesn’t look good. But that was all the bleeding he did, as he went 5.1 IP, leaving the game tied. The bullpen holds off the Patriots the rest of the way, and 4 Columbus homers bring us back for a 5-3 win. TCP 3-9-0 LP Brubaker (0-3) COL 5-8-0 WP Uribe (7-1) |
| Game #2: | Eovaldi back on track with a 7 IP 1-hitter – no runs. Bullpen finishes out the shutout. Only 1 homer in this one, but we still score 7 times on 7 hits, 4 walks, and 1 TCP error. TCP 0-1-1 LP Ashcraft (3-2) COL 7-7-1 WP Eovaldi (11-4) |
| Game #3: | Patriots score 4 times in the 2nd, including a Schmitt homer (13), but then the Explorers come back with 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 4 in the 4th. In the 7th, Triple Creek adds 1, but Columbus responds with 2 more. Team hits 4 more homers in this one. TCP 5-10-0 LP Quintana (5-10) COL 9-12-1 WP Bello (7-9) S Sousa (4) |
| Game #4: | A day off (and a computer pause) always seems to kill momentum, and sure enough, it does for game 4. However, a 3-hit gem by Jameson Taillon didn’t help our cause. He faced 30 batters in shutting us out. But he barely won as David Peterson went 5.1 innings – shutout ball, but in the 7th, Rob Refsnyder got the one big hit of the game, a solo homer (6) for the game’s only run! TCP wins, TCP wins, blah, blah blah. Great game, however. TCP 1-9-0 WP Taillon (11-5) COL 0-3-3 LP Okert (9-5) |
| Game #5: | In the finale, the good guys scored first with 2 in the bottom of the 3rd, but a Corey Seager 2-run homer (23) in the top of the 4th erased that lead, but a Daulton Varsho 3-run blast (18) in the 6th put Columbus back on top for good! TCP 2-2-0 LP Gausman (11-8) COL 6-8-1 WP Smith (13-8) |
| Summary: | Columbus gets 4 of 5 and is set for next week. |
Coconut Creek Crushers @ Fremont Cannons |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | #1 in the A.L., Coconut Creek comes to Fremont to give the A.L. East leaders a tough late-season matchup. |
| Game #1: | Logan Webb (CCC) vs Carmen Mlodzinski (FRE)
Mlodzinski is chased after allowing 6 ER in 3.2 IP. CCC goes up 6-0 before Fremont cuts it to 6-2. They score three in the fifth to go up 9-2 before Fremont gets three of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-5. Justin Sterner gets Shohei Ohtani to ground out with 2 on to keep the Cannons from scoring more. Yimi Garcia completely melts down in the seventh with 3 straight walks followed y a run-scoring FC. A few hits later, he gives up the three-run HR to Yainer Diaz to blow it open for a 14-5 lead. Fremont still attempts the comeback with 2 runs in the eighth and 3 more in the ninth before Coconut Creek finally closes it out with a 14-10 win. Diaz hits 2 HRs and picks up 5 RBI, while Geraldo Perdomo also gets 5 RBI on the day. Byron Buxton is HBP and will miss the rest of the series. |
| Game #2: | Blake Snell (CCC) vs Joey Cantillo (FRE)
Neither starter gives up a run as it seems all the offense was blown in game 1. Daylen Lile leads off the bottom of the ninth with a triple, the bases are loaded with one out, and Shohei Ohtani singles home the winner as Fremont takes it 1-0. The teams combined for just 7 hits, but 8 walks meant there were more chances than it would appear. Cantillo struck out 9 in 8.1 IP. |
| Game #3: | Brandon Woodruff (CCC) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)
The Crushers jump on Rodon early with three in the first inning, the big blow being a two-out two-run HR from Brandon Nimmo. Fremont gets one on the bottom of the inning, but leaves the bases loaded. Coconut Creek adds one more in the top of the second to make it 4-1, then both starters settle down. Neither team puts up much offense the rest of the way, so it ends 4-1 for the Crushers’ win. Rodon’s streak of 17 victories without a loss comes to an end. |
| Game #4: | Hunter Greene (CCC) vs Kodai Senga (FRE)
Kodai Senga has one of his best games of the season, going 6 innings with 1 ER and limiting the walks. Unfortunately, it was the Cannons bullpen that let down, allowing one in the seventh, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth as CCC wins 5-1. |
| Game #5: | Matt Boyd (CCC) vs Shohei Ohtani (FRE)
Ohtani’s wild pitch sets up Matt Olson’s first-inning RBI single to give the Crushers the early lead. Josh H. Smith tags Ohtani in the second for a two-out 3-run HR in the second to up the Crushers’ lead to 4-0. Fremont gets one back in the bottom of the inning with a Yoan Moncada HR, but that is as close as they’d get as Coconut Creek wins 5-1. Boyd strikes out 8 in 6.1 IP in the win, while Yainer Diaz goes 3-3 with a HR. Fremont has scored one run each in the last 4 games. |
| Game #6: | Spencer Schwellenbach (CCC) vs Tarik Skubal (FRE)
Back-to-back doubles from Brandon Nimmo and Ivan Herrera give the Crushers a 1-0 lead in the second. In the bottom of the inning, an Elly de la Cruz single and steal is followed by a Mike Yastrzemski RBI single. Teoscar Hernandez sends one over the fence, and Fremont takes the 3-1 lead. It stays that way until the eighth. With a runner on, Skubal challenges Giancarlo Stanton and is taken for a ride, tying the game 3-3. Giancarlo Stanton is again the man for Coconut Creek, with a 10th-inning blast and 2nd HR of the game giving the Crushers the 4-3 lead. The Cannons fight back with a leadoff double in the bottom of the inning from Shohei Ohtani and a clutch RBI single from Daylen Lile to tie the game 4-4. Yainer Diaz keeps the inning in check, as both Lile and later ELDC are thrown out attempting to steal second. In the twelfth, a leadoff walk to Alec Bohm is followed by a successful sac bunt. After the second out, Stanton is intentionally walked, and Matt Olson grounds out to end the threat. A leadoff walk and stolen base from Shohei Ohtani puts the winning run at second with no outs in the bottom of the inning. A flyout and two strikeouts from Matt Brash extend the game. The Crushers go three up, three down in the top of the thirteenth. Teoscar Hernandez leads off the bottom of the inning… “The pitch … and HERNANDEZ takes BRASH for a ride … going back is FRIEDL … he’ll look but he won’t touch it … it’s all over! … it’s long gone!” Hernandez’s 2nd homer of the game is the walk-off winner for Fremont, 5-4. Skubal strikes out nine in the no-decision. Fremont goes 4-6 in stolen base attempts. |
| Summary: | Coconut Creek comes to Fremont and walks away with a 4-2 series win. |
Sacramento Capitals @ Bethesda Bandicoots |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | A series featuring the Good (Sacramento), the Bad (Bethesda), with only the Ugly missing. |
| Game #1: | … and here is the Ugly. A collision in shallow left resulted in not only a run scored in the 5th, but also landed Matt Vierling and Paul DeJong on the DL for Bethesda. It was especially awesome for the Bandicoots, as Vierling was trying to meet playing-time requirements and will now miss over 3 weeks of action and will likely be lost to free agency as a result of not getting enough plate appearances. The words “Fuck – why do I even bother?” come to mind. The Capitals scored four runs in the second inning to carry them to a 5-3 win. Chris Sale improved to 15-3, with Dodgers free agent waste of money Edwin Diaz notching his 29th save. Miguel Andujar and Jakob Marsee each drove in two runs for Sacramento. Will Benson homered and drove in two for the Coots. |
| Game #2: | The Capitals scored runs in bunches in a 11-7 win over Bethesda. Marsee had four hits, stole three bases against a cardboard cutout of Shea Langeliers, and scored three runs. Moniak homered twice for Bethesda. |
| Game #3: | The Bandicoots homered three times off Shoto Imanaga in a Bethesda 6-3 win. Kameron Miner led Bethesda with three hits and a steal. Brent Rooker cleared the bases with a three-run double in the 8th to account for all of the visitors’ runs. |
| Game #4: | The Capitals punched holes in the Bethesda bullpen, scoring three times in the top of the 9th to come back to win 7-5. Rooker and Carpenter homered for the winners. Misner tripled and homered and drove in three runs for the losers. |
| Game #5: | Rooker, Goodman and Carpenter homered for Sacramento in an 8-6 win for the Caps. Jose Berrios was chased in the 5th inning, although four of the five runs he gave up to Bethesda were unearned as a result of a throwing error by Rooker. Winn picked up his 3rd save. Hamilton hit homer #21 for Bethesda. |
| Game #6: | Brent Rooker homered twice to drive in all of Sacramento’s runs in a 3-1 win over Bethesda. The homers have Rooker at 29 on the year to go with 87 RBIs. Chris Sale fanned nine over 7 innings to improve to 16-3, with Winn picking up his 4th save. |
| Summary: | Thoroughly outclassed, the Bandicoots drop all but one game to the Capitals. |

|---|---|
| Preview: | Interleague play returns to Baltimore as the A.L. West Titusville Super Sonics (64-76) visit the Comets (53-86) |

SONICS 1 / 3 / 0 |

SONICS 3 / 7 / 2 |
| Game #4: | Maikel Garcia‘s 2-run, 7th inning home run (21) puts the Comets in front, and Baltimore holds on, 3-2. Eugenio Suarez clubbed his 46th longball of the year, providing the Sonics with their only runs on the day.
SONICS 2 / 4 / 0 |
| Game #5: | Euginio Suarez smacks two more home runs (47 & 48), including the game winner in the 10th, and the Sonics take the series finale, 4-2.
SONICS 4 / 9 / 0 |
| Summary: | Baltimore wins the interleague matchup 3 games to 2 |

Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Dallas Cougars |
|
|---|---|
| Summary: | Dallas wins 4. Game 4 saw a walk-off grand slam by Cougar 3rd catcher, Reese McGuire, and rookie Nick Kurtz hit two homers during the series to move past Jose Abreu for most homers in a season for Dallas with 35. The final weeks of the season may see Kurtz move into the leadoff spot in hopes of obtaining the needed PA to qualify for the leadership boards, as his slash line of .340/.431/.703 is not only good enough for rookie of the year, but may warrant MVP discussion as well. |
