Powerhouse Capitols Clash with Elite Cannons

The 2025 Mid-West Baseball League (MWBL) World Series features a compelling match-up between the National League champion Sacramento Capitals (SAC) and the American League champion Fremont Cannons (FRE), setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion to the baseball season. The Sacramento Capitals entered the series with the best record in the MWBL, 119-43 (.735), and a league-leading .735 winning percentage. Their offense was the most potent in the league, topping the MWBL charts with a .268 batting average, a .336 on-base percentage, a .466 slugging average, and 900 total runs scored, for an average of 5.6 runs per game. On the opposite side, the Fremont Cannons finished the season with an impressive 110 wins and 52 losses, securing a .679 winning percentage. Fremont featured a potent offense of their own, ranking third overall in runs scored (841 R, 5.2 R/G) and fourth in slugging (.451). Defensively, the Cannons held a slight edge in team ERA at 2.89, compared to Sacramento’s 2.94 ERA. Sacramento, however, showcased a superior overall fielding percentage (.986) compared to Fremont’s .981.

Catcher (SAC) — The Capitals shine behind the plate with Tyler Stephenson’s thunderous bat (19 HR, 68 RBI) paired with Freddy Fermin’s defensive wizardry. Fermin’s elite arm (.232 Opp. SB Avg.) and near-flawless fielding (.997 FLD) make Sacramento a fortress for would-be base stealers.

First Base (FRE) — Fremont’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a force of nature, outpacing the competition with a scorching .319 average and a jaw-dropping 115 RBI. He edges out Michael Busch not only at the plate but also in the field, boasting a .996 FLD to Busch’s .993.

Second Base (SAC) — Leury Garcia brings the total package: slick defense (.989 FLD vs .978 FLD), impressive range, and a potent offensive mix (21 HR, 25 SB). Sacramento’s keystone is locked down.

Third Base (SAC) — Mark Vientos stands tall with superior defensive stats (.959 FLD vs .938 FLD) and a touch more range (1.83 vs 1.72). Add in 21 home runs, and Sacramento’s hot corner packs a punch.

Shortstop (SAC) — While Elly De La Cruz flashes more range (4.23), Francisco Lindor is the gold standard: more power (33 HR), more RBI (105), a higher slugging percentage (.507), and a steadier glove (.981 FLD). Lindor’s all-around excellence tips the scales for the Capitals.

Outfield (SAC) — Sacramento’s outfield duo is a juggernaut. Brent Rooker’s 55 home runs and 125 RBIs (1.042 Total Avg.) combined with Jurickson Profar’s team-best 133 runs scored give the Capitals a slight edge, even against the star-studded Fremont tandem of Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez.

Designated Hitter (FRE) — Shohei Ohtani is a one-man wrecking crew, leading the Cannons in Runs Created (142.4) and Total Average (1.027). His offensive firepower is unmatched at this spot, giving Fremont a clear advantage.

Starting Rotation (SAC) — Fremont’s Tarik Skubal dazzles with a minuscule 1.75 ERA and a stingy .141 Opp. BA, but Sacramento counters with a dynamic duo: Shota Imanaga (24 wins, .889 win%) and Chris Sale (18 wins, 244 SO). Their blend of dominance and consistency gives the Capitals the nod in the rotation.

Bullpen (SAC) — The Capitals’ relief corps is a late-game nightmare for opponents. Closer Tanner Scott (23 Saves, 1.64 ERA) and Carlos Estevez (0.96 ERA, 20.0 ER prevented) form a lockdown tandem, making Sacramento’s bullpen the toughest wall to scale in the clutch.

The Prediction: Sacramento Capitals in Six Games

Based on a detailed analysis of team performance metrics, the Sacramento Capitals are predicted to secure the 2025 MWBL World Series title in six games. While Fremont possesses outstanding individual talent, particularly in their batting lineup and starting rotation depth, Sacramento’s overall offensive superiority—leading the entire league in runs, AVG, OBP, SLG, and home runs (266 HR)—combined with a dominant starting rotation and an elite bullpen, makes them the favorite. The Capitals’ advantage in fielding percentage (.986) also suggests a cleaner defense in clutch situations. Fremont’s path to victory relies heavily on their top-end starters dominating the series early, but Sacramento’s balanced attack and exceptional run prevention appear ready to overcome the Cannons’ strength.
