GAME #1 – Tanner Houck 15-8 (2.23) vs. Erick Fedde 12-9 (3.41) The Titusville Super Sonics drew first blood in the Championship Series on Wednesday night, leveraging a massive five-run fifth inning and a complete-game gem from starter Tanner Houck to defeat the Coconut Creek Crushers 7-4 in the series opener. The victory gives Titusville a crucial 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. What began as a tense pitcher’s duel exploded in the top of the fifth. After Titusville took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double from Eugenio Suarez, the floodgates opened against the Crushers’ bullpen in the following frame. The decisive blow came again from Suarez, who cleared the bases with a ringing double that plated three runs. Not to be outdone, Rowdy Tellez followed with a towering two-run home run, capping a five-run rally that stunned the home crowd and put the game firmly in Titusville’s control. Suarez finished the night with four RBIs, while Gunnar Henderson added three hits and an RBI of his own. On the mound for Titusville, Tanner Houck was masterful. The right-hander went the distance, pitching a full nine innings to secure the win. He effectively silenced the Crushers’ bats for most of the contest, racking up an impressive 12 strikeouts against only two walks. The Crushers’ offense showed signs of life via the long ball, but it proved to be too little, too late. Solo home runs from Alec Bohm in the sixth and Matt Olson in the eighth chipped away at the lead. A two-run shot by Yainer Diaz in the bottom of the ninth provided a final spark, but Houck quickly extinguished the rally to end the game. Starting pitcher Erick Fedde was tagged with the loss for Coconut Creek. No significant injuries were reported for either team. The Crushers will look to even the series at home in Game 2. GAME #2 – Gavin Williams 6-12 (4.29) vs. Logan Webb 22-5 (2.29) A dramatic pinch-hit, two-run double from Will Wagner in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a stalemate and propelled the Coconut Creek Crushers to a thrilling 5-3 victory over the Titusville Super Sonics in Game 2 of the Championship Series. The win evens the best-of-seven series at one game apiece. The game turned decisively in the eighth with the score knotted at 3-3. Brandon Nimmo, who had a three-hit night, led off with a single against Titusville reliever Reed Garrett. After advancing to second on a stolen base, an intentional walk to Michael Toglia brought Wagner to the plate as a pinch-hitter. Wagner delivered in the clutch, hooking a double down the right-field line to plate both runners and give the Crushers a lead they would not relinquish. The late-game drama capped a back-and-forth contest. Coconut Creek struck first in the third inning when Matt Olson laced a single to score two runs. Olson, the offensive catalyst for the Crushers, added another RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-1. Titusville refused to go quietly. Trailing by two in the top of the sixth, Brenton Doyle launched a two-run home run off reliever Blake Treinen, silencing the home crowd and tying the game at 3-3. The homer was Doyle’s first of the series and momentarily seized all momentum for the Super Sonics before Wagnerās heroics in the eighth. Crushers starter Logan Webb turned in a solid performance, allowing one run on three hits over 5.1 innings. Cade Smith picked up the win in relief, and Mason Miller closed the door in the ninth to earn the save. Coconut Creek 5 – Titusville 3 Win: Cade Smith 1-0 (0.00) |

GAME #3 – Hunter Greene 9-11 (2.32) vs. Christian Scott 5-0 (3.00) The Coconut Creek Crushers unleashed a devastating 15-hit barrage on Saturday night, overwhelming the Titusville Super Sonics in a 10-1 road victory to take a commanding lead in their playoff series. Powered by a trio of home runs and a stellar night from the entire lineup, the Crushers’ offense was simply too much for the beleaguered Super Sonics pitching staff. The offensive showcase was headlined by first baseman Matt Olson, who terrorized Titusville pitchers with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. Olson launched a solo shot in the third inning and followed it with a game-breaking three-run blast in the sixth that pushed the Crushers’ lead to 9-1. Designated hitter Michael Toglia also had a powerful night, collecting three hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning that extended the lead to 5-1. Center fielder Brandon Marsh was a constant presence on the basepaths, going 4-for-5 and scoring two runs. While the bats were booming, Coconut Creek starter Hunter Greene delivered a strong performance on the mound to earn the victory. Greene worked 5.1 innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out five. The Crushers’ bullpen was flawless, with Erick Fedde and Chris Martin combining for 3.2 scoreless innings to close out the game. It was a difficult night for the Super Sonics from the start. Starting pitcher Christian Scott took the loss, lasting only 3.1 innings and getting tagged for three runs on nine hits. The Titusville offense managed to scratch a run across in the first inning but struggled to capitalize on opportunities throughout the game, leaving 11 runners stranded on base. The Crushers pounded out 15 hits, including four home runs, to take a commanding win on the road. The power display was led by a pair of sluggers who tormented Titusville pitching all evening. Catcher Yainer Diaz was a force at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, and a staggering 6 RBIs. Not to be outdone, designated hitter IvĆ”n Herrera launched two homers of his own as part of a 4-RBI performance. The Crushers set the tone early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after just two innings, courtesy of two-run shots from both Diaz and Herrera. Titusvilleās starting pitcher, Andrew Heaney, struggled from the outset and was tagged with the loss. Heaney lasted just 4.2 innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on nine hits. The Super Sonics’ defense didn’t help their cause, committing three costly errors that led to unearned runs and extended innings for the Crushers. The lone bright spot for the Super Sonics came in the bottom of the fifth inning when catcher Sean Murphy connected for a two-run home run, accounting for all of his team’s scoring. However, the Crushers’ offense proved relentless, adding two runs in the sixth and another two in the seventh on Diaz’s second homer of the night. Crushers reliever Logan Webb was credited with the win after a stellar outing. He entered the game in the fifth and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. The Crushers did experience a minor scare in the third inning when center fielder Willi Castro left the game with an injury after a collision on the basepaths. He was replaced by Brandon Nimmo. The injury is not expected to be long-term. Final Score: Coconut Creek 11 – Titusville 2 Win: L. Webb 1-0 ( 2.08) |
