Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Coconut Creek Crushers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Matchup of two possible Playoff teams. |
| Game #1: | Four HRs back Suarez in a 10-6 SWD win. |
| Game #2: | Three more HRs is plenty for Burnes as SWD cruises to a 9-2 win. |
| Game #3: | CCC finally wins the HR battle, but not the hits or runs battle. SWD takes it 7-6. |
| Game #4: | SWD continues blasting HRs and takes a quick 5-0 lead. CCC finally erupts and takes an 8-5 lead after 6 innings. SWD recovers and scores 3 runs to tie the game after 8 innings. Apparently everyone was now exhausted as the pitchers started recording zeroes. Finally CCC pushes across a run in the 14th to snap the 3 game losing streak. CCC wins 9-8. |
| Game #5: | Snell and Abbott take advantage of the batters still being tired. They are both still in the game heading into the 9th inning. Both teams needed this as the bullpens were depleted. Snell puts up another zero in the 9th. Abbott looks to do the same but gives up a 3-run HR to Marsh with 2 outs as CCC wins 4-1. Abbott Ks 12 and Snell Ks 13. Snell also gave up zero walks in a complete game. That was unusual for sure. |
| Game #6: | SWD back to their HR tricks as Lowe hits a first inning grand slam. CCC chips away and takes a 6-4 lead into the 7th. McMahon then hits a 3-run bomb (his 5th of the series) to push SWD to a 9-6 win. |
| Summary: | SWD wins the series 4-2. They hit 15 homers in the series. McMahon lead the way with 5HR, 7R and 10 RBI. |
Southbend Lynx @ Dallas Cougars |
|
|---|---|
| Summary: | Lynx win the cat fight in Dallas 4 games to 3. |
Triple Creek Patriots @ Tempe Tempers |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | The Best in the West faced the Best in the Central and it wasn’t close. |
| Game #1: | Gausman vs. Verlander A Will Smith solo homerun and a rare passed ball by Realmuto put the Patriots up 2-0 in the 1st. Gurriel two RBI triple and an India RBI double knocked Verlaner out of the game in the 3rd. Gomes solo hr was Tempe’s first hit of the game in the 4th. Smith three run jack in the 8th gave the Patriots an even 10. Triple Creek 10-3. W – Gausman (6-1), L – Verlander (5-2) |
| Game #2: | Williamson vs. Martinez The Patriots loaded the bases in 1st, but Votto just missed a grandslam at the warning track. Realmuto solo in 2nd inning gave the Tempers an early lead, but it didn’t last long as Gurriel and Grichuck each homered to put Triple Creek up 4-1. They knocked out Martinez in the 5th to go up 7-1. In 8th, the benches were cleared as Strahm lost his control and hit Gomes (injured 5 games) and then hit Freeman before being ejected. Triple Creek 10-4 W – Williamson (3-1), L – Martinez (8-1) |
| Game #3: | Scherzer vs. Gray Gray pitched well, but this game saw a vintage Scherzer performance. Scherzer racked up 15 SO over 8 innings and only gave up one run on a solo homerun to Kwan. The Patriots scored three runs on a Bellinger RBI sac fly, a Gurriel rbi double and a Smith solo HR. Wilson pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. Triple Creek 3-1 W – Scherzer , L – Gray |
| Game #4: | Beiber vs. Degrom Two J.D. Martinez homeruns and a Peralta homer and double powered Tempe to their first win of the series. Munoz worked a quiet 9th for his 10th save of the year Tempe 4-1 W – Verlander 6-2, L – Beiber (-), S – Munoz (10) |
| Game #5: | Kremer vs. Gray A tough pitching duel between Kremer and Gray. Ozuna crushed a two run homer in 1st off Kremer, but he was dialed in the rest of the game. Grichuk’s solo homer in the 5th ended Gray’s shutout. A Canha error allowed an RBI sac fly from Albies that proved to be the difference in the game. Pinch hit solo homerun by Smith in the 8th made it a one run game. In the 9th, Gurriel doubled to make things interesting, but Munoz got Bellinger and Votto swining. Tempe 3-2 W – Gray, L – Kremer, S – Munoz (11) |
| Game #6: | Gausman vs. Martinez India got things going for Triple Creek in the 3rd with a three run homer. The Patriots added three more unearned runs in the 4th. Darvish came on in relief and decided to get some retaliation for the Gomes injury earlier in the series. He beamed the TPC catcher Smith and injured him for 5 games (Eye for Eye?). Darvish was ejected. In the 9th, the benches cleared as Cruz beamed India and was ejected. Gausman tossed a complete game shutout with 14 SO. Triple Creek 8-0 W – Gausman (7-1), L – Martinez (8-2) |
| Summary: | Triple Creek made a big statement blowing out Tempe in three games and taking the series 4 – 2. They scored over twice as many runs as Tempe (34 to 15). Gausman was the player of the series going 2-0 with 17.1 INN with 26 SO and only 3 ER. |
Prairie Falcons @ Valdosta Snappers |
|
|---|---|
| Game #1: | Valdosta 9-8. Snappers got 7 late runs and sneak past the Falcons. Jake Burger hit a grand slam in a losing cause. Freddy Tarnok got the win in his 1st MLB start. |
| Game #2: | Valdosta 1-0. Yulieski Gurriel homered in the 8th for the lone run. Drew Smyly tossed a 4-hitter and pitched into the 9th. |
| Game #3: | Prairie 4-2 (13 Innings). Mike Trout’s 2-run 3B in the 13th was too much for the Snappers to overcome. Kenley Jansen picked up his 1st save of the season. |
| Game #4: | Valdosta 17-4. Tons of offense today for the Snappers. Austin Riley homered twice for the good guys. |
| Game #5: | Prairie 10-9. Not much pitching to be seen. Teams combined for 7 HR’s in a game which saw the Valdosta bullpen implode. Mike Trout had 4 hits for the Falcons. |
| Game #6: | Valdosta 15-3. Another laugher for the Snappers. Austin Riley homered twice again. |
| Game #7: | Valdosta gets to .500 with a 4-2 series victory. |
Motor City Muscle @ Cincinnati Skyliners |

| Game #2: | Kirk and Yelich go deep for Hollwood, and they come from behind to take this one 7-6. |
| Game #3: | Judge and Ketel Marte homer for Hollywood. Santana hits his second of the series and rookie Brenton Doyle hits a two-run homer for the game in the 6th. Mesa wins 6-4. |

| Game #7: | 5 Hollywood homers (Yelich 2, Chavis, Judge, and Kirk). 11-4 romp. Miley goes to 4-0. |
| Summary: | Mesa surprises Hollywood by playing a competitive series and winning 3 of 7. Too much Wearwolves power, though. |
Corktown Cycle @ Baltimore Comets |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Corktown (24-16), 3rd place in the N.L. East visits Baltimore (17-21), 5th place N.L. East. The Comets have played well at home (13-6), while struggling on the road (4-15). |
| Game #1: | Bryson Stott hits a 1st inning, solo homerun and Joey Weimer hits a 2-run, walk off shot, to win it for Baltimore. Jarred Kelenic homered and knocked in both Cycle runs.
CYCLE 2 / 4 / 3 |
| Game #2: | Game was knotted at 9-9 after 6 innings, before the Corktown bats exploded for 10 runs in the final 3 innings, to win it 19-9. Jazz Chisholm had 2 hits and 4 RBIs, and Jarred Kelenic went deep, again, for the Cycle. Josh Bell homered and knocked in 4 for the Comets.
CYCLE 19 / 19 / 1 |
| Game #3: | Josh Bell and Joey Weimer homer for Baltimore, and Angel Zerpa pitches 7 strong innings, allowing only a run on 4 hits, to propel the Comets to a game 3 win. Alex Verdugo homered for Corktown.
CYCLE 2 / 5 / 1 |
| Game #4: | Baltimore rallies from a 6th inning, 6-1, deficit to take this one 10-6. Andruw Monasterio had a single, double, homerun, and 4 RBIs to lead the Comets’ offense. Ryan Mountcastle was a beast for Corktown, doubling and homering twice.

Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Detroit Crime |
|
|---|---|
| Summary: | Detroit takes the series 4 games to 3. |
Chicago Mobsters @ Fremont Cannons |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Chicago finds themselves in an unfamiliar location, 3rd in the AL Central, while Fremont built a big AL East lead but has watched it dwindle lately. |
| Game #1: | Jose Quintana (CHI) vs Carlos Rodon (FRE)
Both starters keep the scoreboard quiet in the early frames. Fremont loses Teoscar Hernandez in the 2nd inning when he gets tossed after arguing being picked off. Trouble comes for Carlos Rodon in the 5th, just two outs from the grade bump. Gabriel Moreno and Jake McCarthy single, then move up on a wild pitch. Willy Adames strikes out, then an Alex Bregman walk loads the bases. Luis Arraez steps up and sends it over the fence for the grand slam and 4-0 Mobsters lead. Chicago manager Mule EarlyExit Stuttles lives up to his name and pulls Quintana with no hits allowed in 5.2 IP, trusting the mighty Chicago bullpen. The Mobsters tack on 3 more in the 7th inning, and at that point the only question is whether the combined no-hitter will occur. It was not to be, as Mike Yastrzemski homers with one out in the ninth, and is followed by a Jace Peterson double. Chicago wins 7-2. Luis Arraez goes 3-4 with 2 R and 5 RBI. W: Jose Quintana (1-0) HR: CHI- Luis Arraez (3. GS); FRE- Mike Yastrzemski (7) |
| Game #2: | Jesus Luzardo (CHI) vs Sandy Alcantara (FRE)
A single and steal by Alex Bregman sets up the Yordan Alvarez RBI single in the first as the Mobsters go up 1-0 early. Nolan Gorman gets HBP in the bottom of the inning and is lost for the rest of the series. Shohei Ohtani ties it up 1-1 with a solo HR in the 3rd. Yordan Alvarez answers in the 4th with a solo HR of his own, and Jake McCarthy singles with two on scores another and Chicago goes up 3-1. Fremont scratches out another one in the bottom of the 4th as a Carlos Correa sacrifice advances the runners to 2nd and 3rd, and Teoscar Hernandez races home on a Gabriel Moreno passed ball. Chicago gets runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 8th but is unable to capitalize. Josh Hader is called on to close it out and gets 6 outs in a row to save it for the 3-2 Chicago win. Jesus Luzardo racks up 12 strikeouts in just 5.1 IP. W: Jesus Luzardo (4-4) HR: CHI- Yordan Alvarez (8); FRE- Shohei Ohtani (6) |
| Game #3: | Bryce Miller (CHI) vs Garrett Whitlock (FRE)
The opening play for Fremont is inauspicious as Garret Whitlock throws away Alex Bregman’s grounder to put him on 1st. He’s eliminated on a Luis Arraez grounder, but Yordan Alvarez is HBP to put two on. Yandy Diaz brings one in with a single for the early 1-0 Mobsters lead, but Alvarez ends the inning by being thrown out at 3rd trying to stretch it. Fremont ties it at 1-1 in the 4th with a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. solo HR. Whitlock commits another error in the 5th, a mirror image of the first, but this time is not punished for it. Carlos Correa gets a solo HR of his own in the bottom of the 5th for the first Fremont lead of the series, 2-1. An error by Carlos Correa and a steal puts Andrew McCutchen on 2nd in the 7th inning, but the Cannons stick with Whitlock and he gets out of it. With a runner on second in the 8th, Fremont opts to walk Yordan Alvarez to face Yandy Diaz. Reliever Robert Suarez gets the ideal result with a double play to end the inning. In the 8th, a walk and then a pinch-run SB from Elly de la Cruz puts a runner on second, and Shohei Ohtani drives him in in with a one-out triple. The Cannons can’t bring hom in, so the lead is only 3-1. Suarez allows a two-out single to McCutchen in the 9th, but that’s all and Fremont takes it 3-2. Whitlock’s surprising start continues as he improves to 5-0. W: Garrett Whitlock (5-0) HR: CHI- none; FRE- Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (8), Carlos Correa (3) |
| Game #4: | J.P. Sears (CHI) vs Griffin Canning (FRE)
A Leody Taveras single with two on in the 1st gives Chicago another early 1-0 lead. The Cannons tie it up with a HR from Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the bottom of the inning. Fremont gets a runner on second in the 5th but Sears is able to strike out Shohei Ohtani. Three straight singles in the top of the 6th leads to a Mobster run, and Andrew McCutchen brings in another with a sac fly for the 3-1 Chicago lead. Fremont gets two on in the bottom of the inning with no outs, but a double play and strikeout ends the threat. Chicago adds another with an RBI triple in the 7th from Alex Bregman and have runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs, but a strikeout and double play ends that inning. Elly de la Cruz sends one over the fence in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 4-2 Chicago. Josh Hader tries for the save in the ninth and gets two outs but also walks two. Felix Bautista comes in and Austin Hays lines one to the gap, but Taveras catches it on the urn and the Mobsters win 4-2. Sears strikes out 9 in the win. W: J.P. Sears (3-5) |
| Game #5: | Julio Urias (CHI) vs. Shohei Ohtani (FRE)
Fremont starts the scoring in the 3rd, after Byron Buxton’s leadoff walk and a two-out Austin Hays single puts two on. A Vladimir Guerrero Jr. infield hit loads the bases, and a Teoscar Hernandez single and Jake McCarthy error plates two. Urias walks another to load the bases, but K’s Yoan Moncada to limit the damage. Chicago gets one back in the fifth with a Leody Taveras homer, cutting the lead to 2-1. Yoan Moncada sends one over the fence in the 6th to make it 3-1 Cannons. It stays the same into the ninth, with Robert Suarez attempting to close it out for the Cannons. With one out, Yandy Diaz launches a solo HR to cut the lead to 3-2. Suarez gets the next two and Fremont wins 3-2. Hits were hard to come by as the two teams totaled 7 in the contest, and both starters struck out 9. W: Shohei Ohtani (5-0) HR: CHI- Yandy Diaz (8), Leody Taveras (4); FRE- Yoan Moncada (2) |
| Game #6: | Jose Quintana (CHI) vs Kodai Senga (FRE)
Chicago gets two on in the 1st but do not score any. After a Leody Taveras single and steal in the 2nd, Gabriel Arias sends it into the bleachers for the 2-0 Mobsters lead. Quintana loads the bases in the bottom of the inning, and Joshua Rojas responds with a single… but Yoan Moncada misses third base and is called out- no runs score on the baserunning blunder. With a runner on first in the top of the 3rd, Julio Rodriguez doubles, but Yandy Diaz is gunned out at home by Teoscar Hernandez. Fremont finally gets on board when Teoscar Hernandez leads off the bottom of the 4th with a HR. A single and HBP puts two more on, but Quintana is able to navigate out of it. With the 2-1 lead going to the bottom of the fifth, Quintana seems to be in control but Chicago manager Mule EarlyExit Stuttles says it’s time to use that killer bullpen. The second batter Camilo Doval faces is Shohei Ohtani, who ties the game with a solo HR at 2-2. In the sixth, a one-out Yoan Moncada walk leads to Jhoan Duran coming in for Doval. An infield hit and a walk loads the bases. PH Manuel Margot strikes out, but a two-out double from Austin Hays brings in 3. Ohtani then doubles to make it 6-2 Fremont. Aroldis Chapman comes in and ends the threat. Chicago gets two on in the 7th but is kept off the board by Will Vest. An itchy Devin Williams comes in for the bottom of the 7th inning, and shows up as a Grade 30!. Fremont fails to get a runner on against Williams. Meanwhile, Julio Rodriguez homers in the 8th to cut the lead to 6-3 and Chicago gets two more on with one out. Fremont sticks with Vest and he gets the last two outs. Chicago goes 1-2-3 in the ninth for the 6-3 Fremont win. W: Kodai Senga (4-3) HR: CHI- Julio Rodriguez (8), Gabriel Arias (3); FRE- Shohei Ohtani (7), Teoscar Hernandez (9) |
| Summary: | The teams split an evenly played series 3-3!
Next week: Chicago hosts Dallas, while Fremont travels to Hollywood to play the always fearsome Werewolves. |
Virginia Sluggers @ Gainsville Swamp Things |
|
|---|---|
| Preview: | Viriginia heads to Gainesville for the first time as both teams look to bounce back from getting swept last week. |
| Game #1: | Rafael Devers was red hot as Viriginia was able to get to Zac Gallen and end their losing streak. Devers was 4/4 with 5 RBI, a HR, and a 2B. He was all the offense that was needed to win the game as there was not a lot of drama to go around.
Virginia 6 W: L. Castillo (4-4) |
| Game #2: | This was all about the other Zach. Zach Eflin threw a complete game giving up a solo home run to Sean Murphy in the 9th. Outside of that he gave up 4 other hits and struck out 10. The Gainesville bats came alive as they scored 8 on 10 hits, including back to back home runs from Spencer Squared, Steer and Torkelson. Nick Lodolo had an okay outing for Virginia striking out 10, things just got bumpy the 2nd time through the order. Both teams can breathe as they’ve gotten back in the win column.
Gainesville 8 W: Z. Eflin (5-2) |
| Game #3: | Virginia struck first with 2 in the 2nd off Matt Waldron off a sac fly and then a base hit by Osleivis Basabe. However, they were unable to plate another run for the remainder of the game. Gainesville chipped away with a run in the 4th and then tied it up in the 6th. Dane Dunning was brought back out for the 7th but it proved to be a mistake as the first three men reached with a single and two walks. An unlikely source of production, Nick Allen broke the tie with an RBI single to chase Dunning. Clay Holmes was handed the ball and he gets two quick outs but the bases remained loaded for Gleyber Torres. He laced one to left center to give Gainesville a couple insurance runs and allowed the bullpen to take over. Coulombe and Milner nailed the door shut.
Gainesville 5 W: M. Waldron (1-1) |
| Game #4: | After a rare off day in the middle of the series, Virginia took advantage of the day of rest. They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd off an Alan Trejo base knock and a 2-run single by Mike Zunino. If a team scored in this one it was a crooked number, in the bottom of the 4th Gainesville took the lead with 4 runs on singles by Nick Allen, Ronny Mauricio, and Seiya Suzuki. Back and forth the game went and this time Virginia took the lead for good. In the 6th, Brian Anderson tied the game with a solo shot which was followed by and RBI 2B by Zunino off the wall. The Virginia bullpen was lights out going 5.2 IP allowing just 1 hit and 3 walks.
Virginia 5 W: L. Patino (1-0) |
| Game #5: | For the 2nd time in the series Gainesville puts up 8 runs in a game that was close until the bottom of the 5th when the Swamp Things busted it open with 3 runs to make it 5-1. Gleyber Torres continued his impressive season with another home run and two additional hits (to go with 3 RBI). On the flip side, Brian Anderson got his 2nd home run in as many days, but Virginia couldn’t get much else going leaving 10 on base. Jack Flaherty battled through 6 innings giving up 7 hits but only 1 run. Gainesville is guaranteed to at least split the series.
Gainesville 8 W: J. Flaherty (5-2) |
| Game #6: | Luis Castillo and Zac Gallen went head to head for the 2nd time in the series and Virginia got exactly what they needed to salvage a 3-3 series. Virginia got a lead off home run from Esteury Ruiz in a shock to the home fans. They struck again in the 3rd to make it 2-0 as Ruiz manufactured his own run by walking and stealing 2nd. That is all Whit Merrifield needed with an RBI single. Gainesville tied it up in the 4th with a 2 run home run by Christian Arroyo and we had ourselves a game. Virginia responded very quickly in the 5th with and RBI 2B by Mike Zunino and then scored the 2nd run with a double steal that was successful. Bottom 6 saw Luis Robert get one back for Gainesville with a solo shot but then it was again the Virginia bullpen that would take control. This time going 3 innings allowing just 1 single. Holmes and Borucki were just fantastic.
Virginia 4 W: L. Castillo (5-4) |
| Summary: | A split between the two teams. Gainesville continues to be in a battle at the top of the AL Central and Virginia is starting to get the footing in a extreme difficult AL West. |
