Game #2: Chicago decided to have an extra base hit party. Taijuan Walker was happy to host. 7 of the 13 CHI hits were of the XBH variety. K. Ruiz (3 for 5) homered and plated 4 to lead the Mobster attack. Luzardo was good enough to grab his first win. CHI 12 – YSS 4
Game #3: Cole vs. Urias. The Aces both went 8 and allowed 1ER. Jose Alvarado spit the bit first. Chicago scored 2 in the 9th, and YSS only tallied 1 in the bottom half. The Mobsters kept the XBH party going, with 6 of their 9 hits (4 doubles, 2HR) from the power columns. CHI 3 – YSS 2
Game #4: 3 straight losses to start the series, who does the home team turn to in game 4? That’s right. Adrian Houser. He spun 7+ scoreless. The Stalker pen was nails. YSS 3 – CHI 0
Game #5: Brady Singer vs. Marcus Stroman. Singer was just good enough. Zunino and Soler hit homers. This is gonna be a Pepto-Bismol season. YSS 4 – CHI 2
Game #6: Domingo German was just a bit better than Luzardo. Joc Pederson had a double and a triple. Ha Seong Kim walloped a homer. YSS 4 – CHI 3
Game #7: The Finale was all Trevor Bauer. 7 scoreless, 4H, 0BB, 11K. Marte and Alvarez homered for the visitors. CHI 4 – YSS 0

CCC leads the series 2-1
Game #4: This was the game for the books. Hollywood pitchers hit 4 batters in the game, Edmundo Sosa 3 times. Both Dustin May and Richard Rodriguez for Hollywood were ejected and they use their entire bullpen (minus Carlos Estevez) as the game runs 17 innings. The Crushers look like they had the game in the top of the 7th when they score 2 off of Hollywood, but Hollywood fights back with 3 of their own for the win. Hollywood wins 6-5

Game #1: SBL J.Oviedo vs SWD R.Lopez

SWD jumps on SBL J.Oviedo in the B1 when Bader 2bs, McMahon w/rbi-1b, Lowe bbs, Rodgers grounder moves the runners, Swanson w/rbi-1b, and then Contreras w/SF for a 3-0 SWD lead.

SBL waste no time getting back into the game in the T2 as Meadows 1bs, Escobar 1bs, Canha w/rbi-1b, and after a Contreras PB, Wynns rips a 2-run 1b to tie the game 3-3! Altuve then comes thru with the rbi-2b as he’s cut down trying to take 3rd; 4-3 SBL.

In the SWD B3 Lowe 2bs, Swanson ties it with an rbi-2b, and J.Oviedo is left in for 1 batter too many as Contreras comes thru w/rbi-1b.

That would be all the scoring as SWD Lopez settled in after the T2 and tosses 3 scoreless innings and then the SWD bullpen of Wells, Sewald, and Suarez close out the game.

The SBL pen of Barnes, Duffy, and Cimber matched the SWD pen but it wasn’t enough.

SWD WP-R.Lopez Sv-R.Suarez / SBL LP-J.Oviedo

Southwest Detroit 5, Southbend 4

Game #2: SBL F.Peralta vs SWD J.Montgomery

The SBL get out early in the T1 in this game as Almonte 2bs, Tucker bbs, Muncy bbs, Escobar w/SF, Meadows with the 2-out 2 run 2b for the 3-0 SBL lead.

SBL then explodes in the T2 when Almonte 2bs, Bichette bbs, Muncy 1bs to LF and Andujar throws the ball away allowing Almonte and Bichette to score as Muncy ends up at 2nd.

SWD brings on Helsley who promptly gives up an rbi-2b to Escobar, Meadows with another 2-out rbi as he 1bs in Escobar; Canha then tops off the scoring with a 2-run HR (his 1st of the year) and the SBL are on top 9-0!

SWD Helsley would fan Mayfield to end the inning and then the SWD pen of Harvey, Castro, and Wells would shut the door on the SBL the rest of the way.

For SBL Peralta would go 5 scoreless innings giving up 3 hits while fanning 8 and walking 3; Sawamura would toss 3 scoreless innings and Barnes woulkd toss a scoreless 9th for the 3 pitcher shutout.

SBL WP-F.Peralta / SWD LP-J.Montgomery

Southbend 9, Southwest Detroit 0

Game #3: SBL N.Pivetta vs SWD J.Gray

SBL opens the scoring in the T1 when Altuve 1bs, Bichette bbs, and Muncy comes through with an rbi-1b.

SWD answers in the B1 when Contreras bbs, McMahon is HBP, and Lowe with the rbi-1b to tie the game 1-1 as McMahon moves into 3rd; Pivetta then gets Rodgers P3, and Swanson then F9 and Tucker nails McMahon at the plate to end the inning!

SBL then break the tie in the T2 when Cave bbs, and with 2 out Altuve hits a 2-run HR.

SBL keeps the pressure on in the T3 as Tucker and Muncy hit back-to-back solo-HRs for a 5-1 lead.

In the SWD B5 the Chihuahuas close the gap with 2 runs as Olivares 2bs and McMahon hits a 2-out 2 run HR to make it 5-3 SBL.

Once again the SWD bullpen of Wells, Kennedy, Tapia, and Sewald comes on and shuts down the SBL offense giving up no runs after the 3rd inning.

But the SBL bullpen is just as strong after the B5 as Cimber, Jackson, and Steckenrider match the SWD scoreless innings.

SBL WP-N.Pivetta Sv-D.Steckenrider / SWD LP-J.Gray

Southbend 5, Southwest Detroit 3

Game #4: SBL J.Yamamoto vs SWD C.Burnes

SBL draw first blood in the T2 when Escobar 1bs, Mayfield FC, Cave FC, and then Wynns with an rbi-2b as he’s cut down trying to take 3rd.

In the SBL T6 Canha 2bs, Bichette with an rbi-2b, and then Tucker with another rbi-2b to make it 3-0 SBL and close out the scoring.

On the mound for SBL J.Yamamoto in a most surprising performance tosses a CG Shutout giving up 3 hits while fanning 8 and only walking 1.

Once again the SWD bullpen of Kennedy and Sewald are lights out giving up no runs in the last 4 innings of the game.

SBL WP-J.Yamamoto / SWD LP-C.Burnes

Southbend 3, Southwest Detroit 0

Game #5: SBL C.Hernandez vs SWD R.Suarez

This game would end up being a heck of a barn burner!

SWD after having trouble with Yamamoto (Grade 3) in the previous game jump all over Hernandez (Grade 12) in this game.

In the SWD B1 McMahon 1bs, Lowe 1bs, Rodger w/rbi-1b, Swanson hits a 3-run HR, and Bader follows with a solo-HR for a 5-0 SWD lead!

In the SBL T3 Canha hits a solo-HR and then in the SBL T4 Muncy 1bs, Altuve 2bs, and Meadows with an rbi-groundout; 5-2 SWD.

SWD answers in the B4 when Smith 2bs, Moniak 1bs, and Contreras w/rbi-1b.

SBL continues to fight back in the T6 as Bichette 2bs, Muncy bbs, and Medows hits a 3-run HR to bring SBL within a run at 6-5 SWD!

But SWD has an answer in the B6 with some help of shoddy defense by the SBL. SWD Smith leads off with a 1b, Moniak lays down the bunt and Duffy throws the ball into CF putting runners at 2nd and 3rd, McMahon with an rbi-groundout followed by a Lowe 2-run HR; Rodgers 2bs, SBL calls on M.Barnes who then gives up a 2-run HR to Swanson for an 11-5 SWD lead!

But unlike the previous games the SWD bullpen has a little bit of trouble in the T7 when Helsley walks Canha, Wynns 1bs, and with 2 outs Tucker hits a 3-run HR! But Helsley fans Muncy to end the inning.

SBL would put some runners on against SWD Lopez in the T8 and a runner on against Tapia in the T9 but
the SWD relievers are up to the task and close out the game.

SWD WP-R.Suarez Sv-D.Tapia / SBL LP-C,Hernandez

Southwest Detroit 11, Southbend 8

Game #6: SBL J.Oviedo vs SWD J.Montgomery

SWD continues to rough up Oveido as they score in the B1 when Contreras bbs, Lowe bbs, and Swanson with a 2-out rbi-1b. In the SWD B3 Contreras hits a solo-HR, Lowe bbs, Rodgers 1bs chasing Oviedo which brings on M.Barnes, McMahon F9 moving Lowe to 3rd; Moran then with an rbi-grounder for a 3-0 SWD lead.

SBL finally break through against SWD Montgomery in the T4 with a Muncy solo-HR.

SBL keeps rolling in the T5 when Wynns 1bs, Fraley 1bs, Bichette w/rbi-1b, Tucker bbs to load the bases, Muncy with a rbi-bb, Altuve with a 2-run 1b which knocks Montgomery out of the game; 5-3 SBL. SWD Wells comes on to retire Meadows and Escobar to end the inning.

In the SBL T6 Fraley 1bs with 2 out, Bichette with an rbi-2b, and Tucker with another rbi-2b; 7-3 SBL.

SWD isn’t going away as in the B7 McKinstry hits a solo-HR, Contreras draws a 2-out bb, and Lowe hits a 2-run HR to pull SWD within a run.

SWD completes the come back in the B8 when McMahon hits a solo-HR to tie the game 7-7!

In the SBL T9 SWD sends out P/Sewald who walks Muncy to open the inning, Altuve grounds out moving Muncy to 2nd, Meadows Ks, and Escobar is IW. Canha then makes SWD pay as he hits a 3-run HR.

SBL D.Steckenrider comes on in the B9 to close out the game.

SBL WP-L.Jackson Sv-D.Steckenrider / SWD LP-P.Sewald

Southbend 10, Southwest Detroit 7

Series Summary: Southbend takes the series 4-2 over Southwest Detroit. Southwest Detroit’s bullpen, so strong through the 1st four games, falters a bit in the last two games, allowing Southbend to split the last 2 games.

The surprise of the series was Yamamoto’s CG Shutout. In a series were Grade 12, 13, 14, 15, and 18’s were knocked around, a Grade 3 (at least until he advanced to a 13) has the game of the series. Go figure.
