Harsens Island Walleye @ Selkirk Steelers

Series Preview: Selkirk had expected so much more this year but it’s not happened. Harsens is rebuilding so maybe this series Selkirk plays good baseball.
Game #1: Castellani pitched really well for Harsens allowing just 3 hits in 7.2 innings but got the loss as Almote gives up an Alonso 2 run homers and the offense could not hit Keller and the Ft. Garry pen. 3-0 Selkirk
Game #2: Evans has a monster game 3 for 4 with a double 2 homers and 4 RBIs, but amazingly Selkirk hits in this one scoring 6 to save Senzatela as Rooker drives in 3. Selkirk 6-4
Series Summary: Selkirk manages to win both games climbing to 10-13. Walleye fall to 8-14.

Triple Creek Patriots @ Bethesda Bandicoots

Series Preview: Triple Creek (12-9) travels to wherever Bethesda is to face the Bandicoots (10-11) as the abbreviated season mayhem continues.
Game #1: A complete mismatch with Grade 12 Kevin Gausman squaring off against Jake (Eggs) Odorizzi who is a plucky Grade 3.
Luckily Odorizzi never went to Grade school and the Bandicoots’ faithful witnessed an early Christmas miracle. Odorizzi went the distance with a 3-hitter as the ‘Coots Soto-less offense cranked out 12 hits in an 8-0 win.
Odorizzi (3-0 … no really) lowered his ERA to 2.37 in the process. When that bubble breaks I don’t want to be standing anywhere close by. Gausman (2-2) gave up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits in 6 innings.
Carlos Santana and Stephen Vogt each drove in a pair of runs with Santana (2) clobbering a mammoth homer off Gausman in the 5th inning.
Game #2: Mitch Keller had a no-hitter going into the top of the 9th but gave up a leadoff single to pinch hitter Daniel Robertson and then promptly loaded the bases on walks with none out, but Codi Heuer struck out two and got an inning and game-ending popout to 1st base to preserve the 3-0 shutout.
It was Heuer’s 2nd save of the season. Keller improved to 3-1 to end what was a fine short season for him as he also finished with a 1.97 ERA. Tyler Anderson (1-2) pitched well for the Patriots and gave up just four hits in seven innings while striking out six.
All of the offense in the game came in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Anderson loaded the bases and then walked Carlos Santana to bring in one followed by a Tyler Heineman sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Victor Reyes.
Series Summary: Two highly improbable games … Juan Soto does not appear at all, Odorizzi throws a shutout, and the Patriots fail to score a run in two games vs Bethesda. Huh.

Valdosta Snappers @ Portland Lumber Jax

Game #1: POR 5 VAL 2.
Game #2: VAL 2 POR 1
Both pitchers get complete games and give up 5 hits, Valdosta wins the close one.
Series Summary: Series split 1-1.

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: Two teams trying to keep their heads above water. Southwest Detroit 10-11 comes to Virginia 11-10.
Game #1: VIR 10-1 W-A.Plutko (3-2) L-E.Fedde (1-3)

Plutko did his impression of a grade 15 rather than a 5. Going 8 innings he allowed 4 hits and only 1 run while striking out 7 and giving up no walks. His teammates gave him plenty of support as 8 of the 9 starters got hits. J.Bradley and J.Castro contributed homers.

Game #2: VIR 10-0 W-E.Hernandez (1-2) L-J.Gray (0-3)

SWD forgot their bats when they came to Virginia. Hernandez shut SWD down for 7 innings on just 2 hits while striking out 8 with no walks. SWD did collect 1 more hit against the VIR bullpen but it didn’t help. The Sluggers attack was led by S.Murphy who was 3-4 with 4 RBI and R.Devers who was 2-4 with 3 RBI. All totaled, VIR spanked 15 hits against the Chihuahua’s pitchers.

Series Summary: Not a good 2-game set for the dogs from Detroit. They got 1 run on 7 hits. They did get 3 extra-base hits,…a homer and a double from C.Moran and a double from D.Smith.
Virginia totaled 24 hits and 20 runs in the 2 games. But it appears all the credit for the wins should go to the incredible pitching efforts from the Virginia staff.
Virginia now gets ready to host Yonge Street while Southwest Detroit takes on its sister city Detroit.

Motor City Muscle @ Detroit Crime

Series Summary: Detroit wins both vs a very tired Motor City bunch.

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Columbus Explorers

Series Summary:  Columbus takes two, both by 2 runs.

Corktown Cycle @ Rosemere Renegades

Series Preview: A battle between not exactly division leaders
Series Summary: Rosemere takes advantage of Corktown by scoring 11 and 10 runs to take the series rather easily.

Chicago Mobsters @ Dallas Cougars

Series Preview: Mobsters come to Dallas 1 game ahead of the Cougars leading the American League.
Game #1: Dallas outhits Chicago 10 to 2 with 4 homers, 2 by Jedd Gyorko, who also had a grand slam.

Dallas 10, Chicago 0

Game #2: Lucas Giolito outpitches Trevor Bauer allowing just 2 hits while striking out 14 in a complete-game victory. One mistake pitch by Alex Colome was all the offense the Cougars needed as Justin Smoak hit a three-run blast in the 8th.

Dallas 3, Chicago 0

Series Summary: Dallas outhits and outpitches Chicago in the two-game shutout sweep.

Tempe Tempers @ Pittsburgh Lumber Company

Series Preview: Tempe Tempers (18-3) at Pittsburgh Lumber Company (11-10).  The Tempers, sporting the league’s best record, and a 5 game winning streak, pay a visit to Pittsburgh.
Game #1: Kwang-Hyun Kim (4-0) 1.21 ERA vs. Sonny Gray (2-2) 3.47 ERA

Tempers plate single runs in the first 4 innings and that was all Kim would need, as he holds Pittsburgh to a run on 3 hits over 5 and 2/3 innings to win #5 on the season. Sonny Gray struck out 10 in the losing effort.

TEM 4 8 1
PIT 1 4 2
WP – Kim (5-0)
LP – Gray (2-3)
S – Valdez (3)

Game #2: Adam Wainwright (3-0) 1.46 ERA vs. Dakota Hudson (2-2) 4.28 ERA

Freeman (#5) and Ozuna (#7) lead off the game with back-to-back home runs to put Tempe up 2-0 early. Joey Gallo gets one of the runs back in the bottom half of the first, his 6th of the season. The score remains 2-1 until the bottom of the 6th when a David Peralta RBI triple ties the game. Tempe strikes back in the 8th, when 4 straight singles net 2 runs, and a 4-2 lead. A Frenchy Cordero solo shot in the 9th makes it 4-3, but that’s as close as Pittsburgh would get. Ozuna and Brantley each had a pair of hits for the Tempers, Peralta led the Lumber Company with 3 hits.

TEM 4 6 0
PIT 3 9 2
WP – Leibrandt (1-0)
LP – Romo (3-0)
S – Hahn (5)

Series Summary: Pittsburgh can’t slow the Temper train … now winners of 7 straight and owning a 20-3 record.

Southbend Lynx @ Cincinnati Skyliners

Series Preview: A battle for the bottom of the American Leagues, as Southbend visits Cincinnati.
Game #1: SBL 8, CIN 2

Kyle Tucker 3-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI

Game #2: CIN 6, SBL 1

Tim Lopes 2-for-4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

Series Summary:  Series split, as neither team gains any ground.

Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Coconut Creek Crushers

Series Preview: Building to the future.
Game #1: CCC puts up 4 runs in the 1st and cruises behind Morejon to a 4-1 win.
Game #2: A tight game turns into a rout late as TIJ scores 8 runs in the final 3 innings to win 13-4.
Series Summary: Series split.

Mesa Solar Sox @ Fremont Cannons

Series Preview: Mesa and Fremont match up for a two-game series.
Game #1: Fremont starter Sandy Alcantara gives up a two-run homer to Andrew Stevenson in the first to give Mesa the 2 run lead, but Max Kepler hits a two-run homer off of Mesa starter Andrew Heaney in the bottom of the frame to tie it. Heaney is chased in the second after giving up 3 more runs, with the big blow being a Mike Yastrzemski two-run double. Fremont would go on to win it 8-3.

W: Sandy Alcantara (2-0)
L: Andrew Heaney (0-5)

HR: MSS- Andrew Stevenson (1); FRE- Max Kepler (2)

Game #2: This game was over in a hurry, as Mesa must have been visited by the Home Run Fairy before the game. Fremont starter Tarik Skubal gets knocked around for 4 runs in the first, but a two-run homer by Mike Yastrzemski gives the Cannons some hope in the bottom of the inning.

Sam Huff hits the first homer for the Solar Sox in the second, chasing Skubal and bringing in Carlos Rodon. Rodon gives up a homer to Jesus Aguilar right away. Rodon heads to the third inning and gives up homers to Yan Gomes and Eugenio Suarez for the second pair of back-to-back home runs in two innings. For good measure, he allows another homer to Starling Marte. The Cannons call in the subs and concede this one, and Luis Robert and Jesus Aguila (for the second time) add homers to the MSS tally. Mesa wins 14-4. 3’s were wild in this one as 6 Mesa players hit their third home run.

W:Pablo Lopez (1-2)
L: Tarik Skubal (1-3)

HR: MSS- Starling Marte (3), Sam Huff (3), Jesus Aguilar 2 (3), Luis Robert (3), Yan Gomes (1), Eugenio Suarez (3); FRE-Mike Yastrzemski (8), Yulieski Gurriel (2)

Series Summary: Split 1-1.

Hollywood Werewolves @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview: The Stalkers welcome the Werewolves. Let the games begin!
Game #1: Hey, this Gerrit Cole fella is a fine pitcher. CGSO. 3H, 2BB, 15K. YSS 3 – HOL O
Game #2: Dustin May is pretty good too. He was just slightly better than Adrian Houser. Housers smoke and mirrors routine fell apart in the 7th as HOL scored all four of their runs. HOL 4 – YSS 1
Series Summary: The series was split, 1 game apiece. YSS is struck by injury once again. Kris Bryant and Nick Madrigal were both injured for big chunks early in the season. Bryant came back last week and instantly got hurt again for another big chunk. Madrigal came back this week and got hurt again (10 days) in game 2. They seem to be snake-bit.

Jersey Nor’Easters @ Sacramento Capitals

Series Summary:  Series split.
