Long Beach  Dirt Bags @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview: Week 2 features a matchup of two teams trying to find out where they fit into the grand scheme of things as Bethesda (good hitting and trash starting pitching) hosts Long beach (good pitching) for seven games.
Game #1: Good pitching matters for squat in the series opener as the Bandicoots braced themselves for a long day after starter Sonny Gray coughed up two runs in the 1st inning and was handing out hits like Tic Tacs at the Germantown Garlic Festival, but it was the Dirt Bags much more talented pitching staff that took it in the gonies getting mulched up in a 14-3 Bethesda win.
Gray somehow managed to limit the Dirt Bags to scoring only 3 runs in the six innings he stuck around for, but was giving out hits (10) aplenty. Long Beach’s Denard Span, who would be a pain in the ass all series, drove in all three runs for the visitors with a 1st inning two-run line drive homer that cleared the right field wall by a foot and an RBI single in the 4th.
The Bandicoots tied things up 2-2 in the 2nd and then began a feast on Long Beach pitching that lasted the rest of the game scoring another run in the 3rd and then chasing Zack Wheeler (1-1) with four runs in the 4th. They added another off Jeremy Hellickson in the 5th, two in the 7th off Brad Ziegler, and then closed out with a quartet of runs off Santago Casilla in the 8th.
The Bandicoots only outhit the Dirt Bags 15-11, but while Long Beach stranded nine runners Bethesda only stranded three.
Equal opportunists, the Bandicoots clubbed clubbed one homer off each Long Beach pitcher with David Peralta (3) and Matt Adams (3) each hitting one homer and Trevor Story (3) getting two. Story led the Bandicoots with three hits and three RBIs in the game.
Game #2: Aledmys Diaz led off the bottom of the 9th by bashing a homer off Long Beach reliever Chad Green to give Bethesda a walkoff 3-2 win over the Dirt Bags.
The comeback win marred a very good start by Long Beach’s Mike Fiers who tossed six shutout innings in which he scattered five hits.
Fiers left the game with a 1-0 lead thanks to pesky Denard Span knocking in Joey Wendle with a triple in the 3rd inning. Fiers’ yanking came as a huge surprise after the Long Beach field boss Buck Miller opted to let Fiers hit in the bottom of the 7th and then yanked him for Seth Lugo.
In his inning of work Lugo erased the Long Beach lead by walking Robinson Chirinos, giving up a single to Diaz and then a two-run triple to pinch hitter Jeff McNeil which left the visitors down 2-1.
Justin Turner evened things up with his 4th homer of the year and spoiling Adam Ottavino’s bid to hold the lead for Bethesda. Ottavino (1-0) settled for the win thanks to Diaz’s first homer of the season.
Game #3: Luis Cessa and the Bethesda Bandicoots were absolutely crushed as the Dirt Bags cranked out 17 hits in a 12-1 laugher.
Matt Kemp led the carnage with three hits in four at bats including his first double and first homer of the season which translated into four RBIs. Justin Turner also had three hits including a double and Amed Rosario drove in three and hit his 1st homer of the season. Jose Briceno pinch hit for starting pitcher Jaime Barria (1-0) in the 7th and clubbed his 1st homer of the year off Ryan Tepera.
Barria gave up one run on four hits in six innings of work to get the easy win.
Bethesda’s lone run as they were conserving energy this game I guess came on a sac fly by Brad Miller.
Game #4: Bethesda’s elite relief tandem of Steve Cishek and Brandon Morrow did their best to muck things up by allowing the Dirt Bags to count three runs in the top of the 9th, but the Bandicoots managed to hang on and edge Long Beach 5-4.
Cishek and Morrow’s antics almost spoild a nice start by Jake Arrieta who allowed just a single run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. Although the veteran right-hander continued to have problems striking out hitters (he had two Ks in the game), he didn’t give the Dirt Bags’ hitters much to work with other then Denard (Frigging #$@%#@) Span bopped a solo homer off him in the 3rd.
The Bandicoots were not so charitable to Long Beach starter Tyler Anderson cranking out 10 hits including three home runs against him in seven innings. Rendon (2), Story (4), and Chris Owings (1) who continued to pleasantly shock the team homered for Bethesda. Rendon’s homer was key as it was a 3-run shot off Anderson in the 7th and provided the team with the cushion they unexpectedly needed in the 9th.
Game #5: Alex Cobb pitched brilliantly for five innings but stayed in one out too long as the Long Beach Dirt Bags roughed him up for five runs in the 6th innings in their 6-1 win over Bethesda.
The 5-run outburst was more than enough for Anibal Sanchez (2-0) who was stellar for eight innings in which he gave up a single run on six hits and struck out 10 without walking anyone.
Justin Turner (5) homered for the 2nd time in the series for Long Beach and Einar Diaz drove in two runs with a single in the 6th.
Lorenzo Cain had two doubles to lead the feeble Bethesda counterattack.
Game #6: Not a lot of saves in this series …
In another not-close game, Long Beach punched the stuffing out of Sonny Gray early and then went silent against the Bethesda bench but it didn’t matter as their six-run 2nd innings carried the day in an easy 7-2 win to tie the series.
Joey Wendle, Denard Span, Justin Turner and Edwin Encarnacion each had two hits for Long Beach with that clown Span driving in two runs with a double and a triple. Encarnacion (2) had the lone homer.
Anthony Rendon wasted a 3/3 performance for Bethesda and accounted for half of the team’s hits.
Zack Wheeler (2-1) pitched 8 strong for the Dirt Bags striking out six, walking three and allowing one earned run on six hits.
Game #7: Mike Fiers imploded in the 1st inning allowing Bethesda to score five times in another lopsided game with this one going to Bethesda 8-1.
Fiers (0-1) lasted just two innings and gave up five runs (two earned) on six hits. The unearned runs were courtesy of outfielder Matt Kemp dropping a Trevor Story flyball that would have been the 3rd out in the inning but instead opened the floodgates.
David Peralta had three hits for Bethesda with Matt Adams (4) and Jonathan Schoop (1) pitching in with homers.
Joey Wendle’s first homer of the season was all that the Dirt Bags could manage against normally inept starter Luis Cessa (1-2) and it came in the top of the 9th with two out to spoil the one-hitter and shutout. Cessa struck out six and walked three in the out-of-nowhere complete game.
Series Summary: A close series in terms of Bethesda coming away with 4 wins to Long Beach’s 3 but most of the games were anything but close as the two teams were out of synch for most of the series.

Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas @ Chicago  Mobsters

Series Preview: Two teams coming off disappointing first series of the year, match up in a six game set at the home of the Mobsters from Chicago.
Game #1: 34 Hits scattered in this one as it was far from a pitchers duel. Freddie Freeman is 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s for Chicago. Miguel Gomez is 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s for Southwest Detroit. Chicago gets the last 5 runs of the game in the 7th Inning & take this one by three runs.

Final Score: Chicago 9 – Southwest Detroit 6

Win: Miguel Diaz 1-0 (9.00)
Loss: Mike Moore 0-2 (19.29)
Save: Aroldis Chapman #2

Game #2: Tied after 6 Innings it stays that way until the top of the 11th when the Fighting Chihuahuas score one to take the lead. Chicago gets one back in the bottom of the 11th, but fall to Southwest Detroit as they score 1 in the 12th, for the win.

Final Score: Southwest Detroit 3 – Chicago 2 – 12 Innings

Game #3: Freddie Freeman is 3 for 5 with 3 RBI’s & Marcus Stroman goes the distance Allowing 3 Earned Runs for the win. Andrelton Simmons gets injured for 3 days for Chicago.

Final Score: Chicago 6 – Southwest Detroit 3

Win: Marcus Stroman 2-0 (2.79)
Loss: Thomas Pannone 1-1 (6.75)

Game #4: After a rare off day during the series the two teams get back at it & in the closest game of the series the bullpens win & lose it for their respective squads. Chicago gets the last run of the game in the bottom of the 9th on an Un-Earned run to walk it off for Chicago.

Final Score: Chicago 4 – Southwest Detroit 3

Win: Framber Valdez 1-0 (0.00)
Loss: Corbin Burnes 1-1 (1.59)

Game #5: Career Wins leader C.C. Sabathia set the bar once again, this time achieving what might be an un-breakable record 250th Career Win. Sabathia goes 7 Innings allowing only 1 earned. David Bote filling in at Shortstop blasts a 3-Run Home Run in the 3rd Inning for Chicago. Matt Moore was very bad. Like drinking Jobu’s Rum bad.

Final Score: Chicago 4 – Southwest Detroit 3

Win: C.C. Sabathia 1-1 (2.61)
Loss: Matt Moore 0-3 (21.60)

Game #6: Matt Duffy was 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s for the Fighting Chihuahuas & Jacoby Jones knocked 3 Singles for them as well. However it wasn’t enough as Chicago scored 8 Runs on 11 Hits, 5 Walks. Home Runs by Andrew McCutchen & Andrelton Simmons were big Hits for the Mobsters.

Final Score: Chicago 8 – Southwest Detroit 5

Win: Carlos Matias Martinez 1-1 (4.29)
Loss: Reynaldo Lopez 0-2 (8.50)
Save: Aroldis Chapman #3

Series Summary: Chicago wins the series taking 5 games at home vs. the Fighting Chihuahuas of Southwest Detroit.

Portland  Lumber Jax @ Harsens Island  Walleye

Series Preview: Harsens Island welcomes Portland to the Great Lakes
Series Summary: Portland wins em all. 7 games to 0. 40 runs scored to 12. The Harsens Island management would like to apologize to their fans (if any are left).

Tempe  Tempers @ Pittsburgh  Lumber Company

Series Summary: Tempe is as Tempe does.
Takes two, then we win a pair of tight ones to even it up.
Then Tempe takes the final two.
Where’s my beer…?

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview: Jersey and Columbus meet in the middle of Ohio after both having good opening weeks. Explorers really hope to keep it going as next week they meet the team who need not be mentioned. Jersey wants to keep up with or outpace the Lumber Company who is playing the team not to mentioned this week.
Game #1: Dereck Rodriguez vs. Jordan Lyles to start the series Lyles is stifling. He goes the distance, 9ks, 1W, 3 hits. One of them was a solo homer to Sean Rodriguez in the 3rd – but that was it. Rodriguez, however, did him better as he takes a no-hitter into 8th before Asdrubal Cabrera singles opening the inning. But that was all Dereck gives up. He gets lifted in the 9th for Josh Hader who comes on and fans 2 of the 3 outs he gets for the save (2). Rodriguez (W 2-0) gives up 1 hit, 1 walk and fans 8! For Lyles, it was his first loss (0-1).
Game #2: Dan Straily vs. Jimmy Yacabonis – can these guys deliver like game 1? Almost! Austin Romine cracks a 2 run homer (1) in the 2nd for Jersey. That was all Yacabonis would yield in 6.2 innings (and fanning 6). Bottom of the 6th Ian Desmond and Paul DeJong get rbi singles that ties up the game. Bottom of the 9th,Craig Stammen pitching for Jersey and Paul DeJong smacks the a walk-off winning homer (3) for the 3-2 Columbus victory. Stamen takes the loss (0-1). David Robertson (1-0) picks up the win in relief.
Game #3: Marco Gonzales vs. Wade LeBlanc. After 2 1-run games we get a 19 run adventure but it wasn’t close and it was over early. Explorers club 4 homers – Shin-Soo Choo (1), rookie Danny Jansen (1), Eduardo Nunez (1 – Grand Slam), and Tyler Flowers (3). By the end of 3 it was 8-0 and 15-2 after 7. Nor’Easter runs came about on solo homers from Matt Szczur (1) and Tommy Pham (3). LeBlanc pitches 5.1 innings and coasts to the win (2-0). Gonzales lasts 2.1 and takes the loss (1-1). Final score – 15-4 Columbus.
Game #4: Matt Boyd vs. J.A. Happ – after taking a day off, the teams come back for 3 more and Columbus was hoping not to lose momentum. Happ made sure they didn’t need much giving up 3 hits in 7 innings, fanning 7 and no runs running his record to 3-0. His offense helped with 8 hits, one of them a 2 run homer from Asdrubal Cabrera (4) in the 2nd. It was enough for the win. Ronald Guzman broke up the shutout in the 9th with a solo homer (3) off David Robertson – but Robertson still gets the save (1). Final 3-1 Columbus
Game #5: Daniel Mengden vs. Julio Teheran – Teheran has been a nice pickup for Columbus and he will work to keep his string going. However, he gives up a solo homer (4) to Roughned Odor in the 2nd. Mengden is cruising – until the 4th when it started with Shin-Soo Choo hitting one way high that Jose Ramirez just drops. Charlie Blackmon then unloads a 2 run homer (2). Danny Jansen then his 2nd hit of the year and it was his 2nd homer of the year and at the end of 4 it was 3-1 Columbus. Teheran goes 1 out into the 7th giving up no more runs and Tony Watson bails him out of a jam. Then in the bottom half, Columbus tees off of Brad Hand scoring 4 runs including a 3 run double from Matt Carpenter. That made it a commanding 7-1 but Hunter Pence makes it a bit more respectable with a 2 run homer (1) in the 9th. Final 7-3 Columbus. Teheran wins (3-0), Mengden takes the lass (0-1).
Game #6: Dan Straily gets the game 6 nod for Jersey and Jordan Lyles comes back after his heartbreaking loss in game 1. Both these guys pitched well enough to win in their earlier starts, will either prevail today – yes and no, both do well again, but both get no-decisions. Columbus scores 1st with a Charlie Blackmon SF in the 3rd. Lyles goes 8 – 4 hits, 12 ks, but in the 8th with 1 out, Kole Calhoun hits a slow grounder to the right side that bounces off Dee Gordon’s glove and he reaches on the error. Matt Szczur then comes in to PH and he grounds to Asdrubal Cabrera at 3b – he fires to 1st and it’s off Ian Desmond’s glove – he chases it down, Calhoun keeps running – rounds 3rd and scores. GIFT, GIFT, GIFT! BLAH. Lyles then gets the next 2 and goes 8 innings, 4 hits, 1 UNEARNED RUN, 12ks! He goes 2 games and gets and ERA of 0.53 and goes 0-1!
Tony Watson comes in for the 9th and sets the Nor’Easters down in order. Josh Hader comes in for Jersey for the 9th. AND HE COMES IN ITCHY at 27!!! Ian Desmond up, he grounds to the right side, Ronald Guzman fields it and his throw to first is a bit short and Desmond reaches – error! Desmond then steals 2nd. Gordon then bunts but Hader catches it for the out but wasn’t able to double up Desmond at 2nd. So, Desmond then steals 3rd. 1 out, Desmond at 3rd and Flowers gets hit by a pitch (fortunately he wasn’t injured, but he does leave for Victor Reyes to PR. Reyes steals 2nd, so it’s 2nd and 3rd, 1 out DeJong is up – can he hit another walk-off? NOPE – he pops up, 2 down. Brock Holt up and he is given an IW. So, we got a guy on 3rd from an error, guy on 2nd due to a HBP and guy on first from the IW – nothing positive, Hader gives up NO HITS and has a bases loaded situation. So, Shin-Soo Choo steps up and he gets a walk-off walk – yup, Hader walked him to give Columbus (literally a gift) the winning run in a 2-1 game! Hader earns (?) the loss, 0-2 and Watson gets the win (1-0).
Series Summary: So when it’s all said and done Columbus win the series 5-1 but only 2 of the wins were easy and it could have easily gone a lot differently. But now the Explorers will venture west for their series in That City not to Be Mentioned where the Evil Empire dwells – Explorers hope to channel the force next week. Jersey stays on the road to face Triple Creek.

Dallas  Cougars @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview: Two teams with successful 1st series results meet in Arizona. The Solar Sox clubbed 17 homers in their 1st 6 games. Insane! They will have to keep it up if they wasn’t to continue to win as their pitching isn’t very good.
Game #1: Bombs away! Dallas comes out swinging in the 1st as AJ Pollack blasts a two run homer off Nick Kingham. However, Mesa counters in the bottom of the inning with 3 runs. Eddie Rosario leads off the game with a solo blast and after a Kipnis single AYE-U-HEY-NO Suarez clubs a two run homer for a 3-2 lead. It was short lived, because Dallas took the lead back in the 3rd on RBI singles from Solarte and Dozier. Arizona knocked back in the bottom of the inning with a Kipnis 2 run homer and increased the lead to 6-4 with another Suarez homer! Dallas tied it in the 5th on a Josh Harrison long ball. Mesa untied it in their half of the 5th on a Rosario single, scoring Yan Gomes. PAUSE TO TAKE A BREATH PLEASE!!! 7-6 Mesa in the 6th but the bullpen couldn’t hold it. AJ Pollack broke the tie with a double and the 3 run 6th proved to be too much for Mesa. Dallas hangs on to win 9-8.
Game #2: James Paxton of Mesa spins a beauty – 8 innings of shutout pitching before he gives up a single run in the 9th. By then Mesa had built a 9-0 lead. Steve Pearce drove in 5 with a double and a homer. Every Mesa starter had at least one hit. Dallas Keuchel pitched well for the Cougars – 5.1 innings with 5 hits and 3 unearned runs. Mesa wins 9-1.
Game #3: Lucas Giolito was brilliant for Dallas as he stymied the Solar Sox over 8.1 innings – 2 hits, 0 runs and 8 Ks. With one out in the 9th he gave up a solo homer to Suares, but as in the previous game, the homer was to no avail was the Cougars already had a 4-0 lead. Josh Harrison drove in 2 and Nick Hundley drove in 2 more with a homer. Giolito beat Chen 4-1.
Game #4: Patrick Corbin against Trevor Bauer in the pitching matchup of the series. The former Diamondback teammates hurled zeroes until the 5th when Mesa broke out with 4 runs. Dallas countered with 3 in the 6th (two unearned on a Tim Anderson throwing error). With two outs and two on in the 8th Dallas brought in Diaz (a 22) who got the final out of the inning. In the 9th Mesa brought in their closer Jeffress (a 23), who wlaked 2 and gave up the game tying single before getting the 3rd out. Diaz got the 1st two outs in the 9th but Aldoberto (or is it Raul Jr.?) Mondesi walked it off with a homer! Mesa 5-4. One unfortunate note as AJ Pollack crashed in to the center field wall and will miss 15 days.
Game #5: Mesa’s Andrew Heaney pitched a complete game 5 hitter, Yan Gomes and Eddie Rosario blasted homers in the Solar Sox 7-1 win.
Game #6: Mesa wins 7-2 without hitting a homer. What?? Jason Kipnis drove in 3 with 2 doubles and Mesa collected 12 hits to back Nick Kingham’s first MWBL win. Mesa also suffered an injury ad Yan Gomes went down for 10 days.
Series Summary: Mesa won the series 4-2, out homering Dallas 9-4. However, slugger Jesus Aguilar starts out the year with no extra base hits in his first 61 PAs. In this hitting environment, that’s weird.

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Detroit  Crime

Series Summary: Hollywood takes 5 of 6. Iannetta needs to be put on the 7-day DL. The results file doesnt allow for that, but the default does.

Triple  Creek  Patriots @ Valdosta  Snappers

Series Preview: Triple Creek visits winless Valdosta for a 6 game series.
Series Summary: Valdosta manages two wins thanks to Craig Kimbrel saving both games. Pats win 4 of 6.

Selkirk  Steelers @ Sacramento  Capitals

Series Summary: Sacramento beats Selkirk 5-2 in the 7-game series.

Rosemere  Renegades @ Corktown  Cycle

Game #1: Rosemore 6-5 (10)
Game #2: Rosemore 7-0
Game #3: Corktown 7-3 (Robbie Ray 16Ks)
Game #4: Rosemore 4-0 (Eovaldi GG 4 hitter)
Game #5: Corktown 2-0
Game #6: Rosemore 8-4
Series Summary: A disappointing series for Corktown. Rosemore takes 4 of 6.
Rosemore improves to 5-8 while Corktown falls to 4-9.

Coconut Creek  Crushers @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Preview: CCC visits YSS
Game #1: Trea Turner and Eric Thames each homered in support of Ivan Nova. Mookie Betts homered and drove in the Crushers runs. YSS 5 – CCC 2
Game #2: Brandon Drury hit a 2 run shot to greet RP Cam Bedrosian in the 9th after 8 1/3 pretty awesome innings from Gerrit Cole. CCC 5 – YSS 3
Game #3: Greg Bird ALMOST hit for the cycle. He went 4-4 with TWO doubles, a triple and a homer. Robbie Erlin was good enough for the home squad. YSS 7 – CCC 5
Game #4: A semi-slug-fest. CCC tallied 3 homers (Betts,Myers,Bandy). Aaron Hicks homered for YSS. Kris Bryant tripled and homered as well. Former YSS great J.T. Chargois saved his 2nd game for the visitors. CCC 6 – YSS 5
Game #5: Joe Musgrove was strong. CCC lost Nimmo for 5 days after Joe Kelly plunked him. He was tossed immediately. CCC 7 – YSS 4
Game #6: YSS opened up a can of whoop-ass on the guy who used to be Michael Fulmer. Kris Bryant, Jason Heyward, and Eric Thames each homered and plated 3. To make things kinda zen-like, Trea Turner, Justin Bour, and Joc Pederson each doubled and plated 2. Nine of the 16 Stalker runs were unearned. YSS 16 – CCC 3
Game #7: Gerrit Cole worked around 6 walks in his gem. He only allowed 3H (although 2 were doubles), and K’d 15. YSS 2 – CCC 1
Series Summary: Man it seems like there were an awesome number of Strikeouts in this series. I’m not sure what’s normal, but 147 seems high.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Motor City  Muscle

Series Preview: Stockton hosts Tijuana for an early inter-division 6-game series
Game #1: MCM 6 – TIJ 4

WP: Verlander
LP: J. Rogers
SV: W. Davis

HR: TIJ–Happ, Lamb; MCM–Kinsler (GS), Candelario

All the runs scored on HRs, including a grand slam by Ian Kinsler. TIJ lost Addison Russell for 6 games and Scott Schebler for 12 on a collision in the outfield.

Game #2: TIJ 7 – MCM 4

WP: J. Garcia
LP: R. Hill
SV: J. Barnes

HR: TIJ–D. Murphy (GS); MCM–S. Perez

Game #3: MCM 13 – TIJ 2

WP: Davies
LP: H. Bailey

HR: MCM–Kinsler, Fowler, Candelario (GS)

It was all MCM in this one. Jeimer Candelario had four RBI on his 7th inning grand slam. Ian Kinsler and Nick Castellanos had four hits each, while Dustin Fowler contributed another three to the 17-hit MCM attack.

Game #4: MCM 1 – TIJ 0

WP: K. Hendricks (CG)
LP: B. Kennedy (CG)

HR: MCM–Trout

Trout’s 1st-inning solo shot is the only run in an exciting pitchers’ duel that saw both starters go the distance, each dodging mini-rallies along the way. Quite the contrast from the previous game. Salvador Perez out for 5 days after getting hit on the hand by a pitch.

Game #5: MCM 6 – TIJ 5 (10 inn.)

WP: Nuno
LP: Barnes

HR: none

MCM manages to win on back-to-back wild pitches in the 10th inning after a sloppy four error game. TIJ jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but a five-run MCM 6th inning led to the exciting finish. It was an expensive win for MCM, with Dustin Fowler injured for 17 days.

Game #6: MCM 6 – TIJ 5

WP: Nuno
LP: Bailey

HR: TIJ–Mauer, Puig; MCM–Trout

TIJ jumped on Mike Leake early, but Jaime Garcia and the TIJ bullpen couldn’t take advantage. MCM chipped away at the lead, until Christian Villanueva knocked in the winning run with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th.

Series Summary: MCM takes a wild series 5 games to 1

There were two complete games, both in Game 4

Injuries for MCM: Salvador Perez (5 days), Dustin Fowler (17 days)

Southbend  Lynx @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Preview: Virginia coming off a beating from Manhatten while Southbend is riding high after a big series win over perennial powerhouse Hollywood.
Just getting back from Spring Training in Tampa, Fl. so these will be short recaps. Apologies.
Game #1: VIR 8-2 W-C.Archer (2-0) L-E.Jackson (0-1)

VIR jumps out to a 1st inning lead on a George Springer 3-run homer and adds 2 more on a Jean Segura double in the 5th as VIR took a 5-2 lead into the 7th. Vir ended their scoring with 3 more in the 7th on back to back doubles by George Springer and Nick Markakis.

Game #2: VIR 3-0 W-L.Castillo (1-1) L-F.Peralta (0-1) SV-F.Vazquez (2)

Luis Castillo goes 8.1 shut-out innings allowing 4 hits while striking out 12. George Springer’s solo homer and Whitt Merrifield’s RBI triple provided all the runs VIR needed.

Game #3: VIR 6-4 W-T.Williams (1-1) L-M.Foltynewicz (0-2) SV-J.Fry (1)

An RBI double from j.Castro followed by RBI’s from Jean Segura, Anthony Rizzo and George Springer gave VIR a 4-0 2nd inning lead. VIR made it 6-0 in the 7th on RBI’s from Whitt Merrifield and Nick Markakis. T.Williams handed off to Jace Fry for the save.

Game #4: SBL 10-4 W-M.Koch (2-0) L-L.Perdomo (0-1)

SBL brought the lumber as they pounded out12 hits to run out to a 10-2 lead through 6 innings. Jose Altuve contributed 3 hits including a 2-run homer and Logan Forsythe chipped in a 2-run single. But the big blow was a 3-run blast off the bat of Lucas Duda in the 6th.

Game #5: SBL 3-0 W-D,Holland (1-0) L-A.Plutko (1-1) SV-R.Osuna (4)

Derek Holland scatters 8 hits and no runs over 6.1 innings and the bull-pen only allows 1 hit the rest of the way as SBL used it’s pitching to nail down the win this time rather than the bats. All 3 runs came in the 1st and the pitching made those runs stand up for the win.

Game #6: VIR 4-3 W-E.Hernandez (1-2) L-E.Jackson (0-2) SV-J.Fry (2)

A back and forth game that saw SBL out-hit VIR 8-5. However, 3 costly errors led to 2 VIR runs that were probably the game changers. And the 2 RBI’s VIR did tally came on no hits.

Game #7: SBL 9-2 W-F.Peralta (1-1) L-C.Archer (2-1)

SBL closed out the series on 14 hits to go out on a good note. Max Muncy, Eduardo Escobar, Zach Cozart, and Logan Forsythe all had 2 RBI each, (Muncy’s on a longball). And once again the bullpen did the job as they allowed just 1 run over 4 innings.

Series Summary: VIRGINIA takes the series 4-3 by shutting down Escobar, who I hear had a great series against Hollywood. 🙂

Manhattan  Project @ Fremont  Cannons

Game #2: Porcello goes to 2-0 as Manhattan blows out Fremont 10-3.
Game #3: Quintana and Manhattan spoil Ohtani’s pitching debut, as Manhattan wins 6-2.
