Rosemere  Renegades @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The Rosemere Renegades tackle the Bandicoots for a six-game stretch in Bethesda as Rosemere (10-16) aims to turn things around and Bethesda (19-8) tries to break free of a tie with Windy City for 1st place in the NL East.
Game #1:  Rosemere catcher Rafael Lopez entered the game wanting to make a difference and he sure did. Three errors later the backstop was almost single-handedly responsible for two unearned runs as he bobbled and wildly threw himself and the rest of the Renegades into oblivion as Bethesda captured the opener 3-1. Tyler Naquin had two of Bethesda’s 10 hits in the game and drove in a pair with a triple while on the other side of the diamond plucky 3rd baseman Juan Uribe clubbed a John Lackey offering deep into the cheap seats for his 3rd dinger of the season. Jared Eickhoff fell to 0-6 after allowing just one earned run on nine hits in just under 7 innings. John Lackey (2-1) got the win for Bethesda with eight innings of four-hit ball while the resurgent Steve Cishek fanned two in an inning for his 6th save.
Game #2:  Francisco Liriano, Dario Alvarez, and Dario Alvarez were chewed up spit out and then trampled as the Bandicoots mushed up the Renegades 12-0 in Game 2. Liriano (1-4) lasted just eight outs giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits. Trevor Story did the bulk of the bashing for Bethesda hitting his 5th homer of the year and his first grand slam of the year as part of a 3/4 performance. Jon Jay had a not bad day at the dish either, slamming two two-run homers for his first dingers of the season. Reserve call-up Robert Andino continued to please going 3/4 and scoring twice. Jake Odorizzi (2-2) gave up just one hit and struck out six in six innings to get the
Game #3:  Sonny Gray continued to baffle hitters and Bethesda management as he held Rosemere to just one unearned run over five innings in a 4-2 Bandicoot win over Rosemere. Gray (4-0) somehow lowered his ERA to 1.30 despite the team expected an implosion almost daily from the Oakland righty. Brad Miller (12) homered and drove in a pair for Bethesda while Steve Cishek notched save #7 with a shaky (one walk and two hits) 9th ending the game on a groundout by Gerardo Parra with the bases loaded.
Kelly Johnson had three hits for Rosemere. Starting pitcher Taylor Jungmann (0-1) gave up all four runs to Bethesda in 4.2 innings on the mound. He gave up seven hits and struck out four.
Game #4:  Rookie hurler Luke Weaver fried 15 Bethesda hitters before the end of the 7th but unfortunately the Bandicoots caught up to his fastball and golfed three out of the park that inning to come from behind and capture a 5-2 win over Rosemere.
Weaver (0-3) allowed just seven hits and a walk in the game and up 2-1 appeared on the verge of an upset over Bethesda starter Jake Arrieta before being bitten by the long ball.
Kelly Johnson (3) put Rosemere up 2-1 with a blast deep over the right field fence in the top of the 7th, but Bethesda starter Arrieta (4-0) barely had time to hang his head when Anthony Rendon (6), Trevor Story (6) and Travis Shaw (4) each took Weaver deep in the 4th run Bethesda 7th.
Weaver had some measure of revenge in the game taking Bethesda outfielder jon Jay deep (in the jaw) and knocking the slap-hitting Jay out for 19 days and continuing the Bandicoots’ parade to the DL.
Shaw had three hits for Bethesda while Johnson had three for Rosemere. Steve Cishek tossed another shaky inning of relief (one walk and one hit) but emerged
Game #5:  John Lackey tossed eight innings of three-hit shutout ball as Bethesda blanked Rosemere 1-0 for its 5th straight win.
Robert Gsellman (4-2) also allowed only three hits, but over seven innings with Travis Shaw spoiling his shutout bid with an RBI single in the 5th.
Lackey improved to 3-1 on the year with the win and Ryan Madson pitched his 5th save with a scoreless 9th.
Angel Pagan and Brad Miller each had two hits in the game for Rosemere and Bethesda respectively.
Game #6:  Angel Pagan homered and Gregorio Petit doubled in a run in a two-run 10th inning to lift the Renegades to a 5-3 win over Bethesda and salvage the series.
Ryan Madson (2-1) took the loss for Bethesda after pitching into his 2nd inning of the game.
Brad Miller sent the game into extra innings with his 13th homer of the season off Xavier Cedeno in the 8th inning. Miller also tripled scored twice and drove in two in the contest.
For Pagan, it was his 2nd homer of the year and his 2nd hit of the game. Petit had three hits and drove in two for the winners who got two great innings of pull-yer-butt-out-of-the-fire relief from Sergio Romo who improved to 2-1 with the effort. Ramiel Tapia scored twice and added three hits for Rosemere.
Series Summary:  Bethesda managed to eeke out five wins in the six-game with all but one of the games being close. The story of the series had to be Luke Weaver’s complete dominance over Bethesda for six innings before coming a little unravelled, but still finishing with 15 Ks over seven frames. Angel Pagan and Kelly Johnson had a solid series for Rosemere while catcher Rafael Lopez was an accident looking for a place to happen.
For Bethesda, Sonny Gray continued to be much much much better than expected winning his 4th straight while Rich Hill convalesced. Brad Miller continued to drive in runs (31 RBIs in 31 games he has played) and drive out baseballs (13 HRs after two this series in a limited role).

Game #1:  Two batters into the game Jersey takes the lead on an RBI double by Howie Kendrick.

Black Sox tie it up in the 2nd as Alexei Ramirez plates Brian McCann with a two out double. They then take the lead the next inning the same way as Michael Saunders plates the pitcher Chad Bettis with a two out RBI double.

Black Sox add another run in the fourth as McCann singles home Carlos Beltran to make it 3-1. More two out magic for the home side in the 5th as Brett Gardener reaches on a bloop single and Saunders follows with a double on a hit and run to score Gardner. 4-1 after five innings.

Jersey gets back into it in the 6th as Jay Bruce connects for a two run bomb to make it 4-3 and chase Bettis from the game. Nor’easters tie it in the 8th on a two out single by Yunel Escobar off Fernando Rodney.

But more two out magic for the Black Sox as Alexei Ramirez drops in a duck snort to score a run and Jason Castro follows with an RBI single of his own to give Windy City a 6-4 lead headed to the 9th.

Jersey gets a run and two more on against Kenley Jansen in the 9th but Jansen gets the double play grounder to end it. WCB 6 JNE 5 final.

Game #2:  Nor’easters are all over Gio Gonzalez in the first but a funky 9-2-6 double play gets the Sox out of the inning with only one run of damage.

Sox get two in the bottom of the inning as Carlos Beltran knocks in Gardener and Brandon Belt follows with an RBI single to score Beltran. Sox plate two more in the second on RBI hits from Ramirez and Rajai Davis.

Windy City blows it open in the 3rd as they load the bases, McCann gets a bases loaded walk and then Chase Utley unloads on the pitch and unloads the bases with a grand slam. 9-1 Sox after three.

Gio Gonzalez goes 7 strong allowing just the one run and the Sox lower bullpen guys get some work as 9-1 is indeed the final score.

Game #3:  No score until the bottom of the 4th inning when the home team plates a pair of runs. 2-0 Sox after four. Windy City adds three more in the 5th on a pair of homers. First a solo shot from Jason Castro, and then a two run blast from Nolan Arenado.

Matt Harvey helps his case at the plate with a two out RBI single in the 6th to make it 6-0 Sox. On the mound Harvey goes 8 innings allowing just three hits and no runs. Ogando struggles through the 9th but locks it down for a 6-1 Windy City win.

Game #4:  Scoreless to the 4th when Windy City breaks through with a couple runs to take a 2-0 lead.

Same score to the top of the 8th when Jersey loads the bases with one out but Rodney gets Escobar to line out and then Dunn gets Murphy to fly out to deep right to preserve the 2-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Davis gets on, steals second and scores on Arenado’s triple. Beltran brings home Arenado with a sac fly to make it 4-0.

Dunn and Neal finish off Jersey in the bottom of the 9th for the Sox fourth straight win in the series.

Game #5:  Sox strike first against Kyle Hendricks on an Arenado homer in the 4th but Jersey answers with a pair in the top of the 5th.

Still 2-1 to the 8th when pinch hitter Brett Gardner walks, steals second and advances to third on a throwing error and comes home on Arenado’s sac fly to tie it at two.

In the bottom of the 9th Goeddel reaches to lead off the inning, Jansen bunts him over and he makes third on an error. Rajai Davis then wins it with the sac fly to center. Black Sox win it 3-2.

Game #6:  Jersey gets two in the first off Jeff Samardzija on a Didi Gregorious double to take the early lead. Black Sox answer with one on Beltran’s single to score Davis. They then tie it up in the second as Castro singles home Ramirez. 2-2 after two.

Kendrick gives the Easters the lead back in the 4th with an RBI single. But Windy City takes the lead back in the bottom of the 5th on a two run blast by Arenado. Sox tack on three more in the 6th, all with two outs to make it 7-3.

The Sox pen does the rest and Windy City takes it 7-3.

Game #7:  Jersey strikes first on a Jay Bruce two run dinger in the top of the first. Bruce then goes yard for the second time in the game in the 6th, this one a solo shot. Jersey adds another in the 6th to make it 4-0.

Two more for the NorEasters in the 7th, Bruce with a sac fly to give him four RBI in the game.
