HOLLYWOOD TROUNCES SEVERN

For Immediate Release
June 14th, 2003

Hollywood host division rival Severn Express for a 6 game series. They need a real good series to help move them up in the standings.

Game 1: Former Hollywood Werewolf Ramon Ortiz takes the mound against the recently acquired Hideo Nomo. Ramon was traded in the off season because he had trouble keeping the ball down in this park. Hopefully the same with hold true today. AROD homers in the first for a 2-0 lead. Wigginton homes to make it 3-0 in the 4th. Hollywood mounts an attack for the first time in the 6th when Jones reaches on an error and Huff executes a hit-and-run. Lieberthal picks up a SF and the lead is 3-1 after 6. AROD hammers his 2nd of the game and extends the lead to 5-1. Hollywood couldn’t get the bats going and lose 5-1.

Game 2: Hollywood grabs the early lead when Meluskey scores on an Andrew SF to center. They add another when Huff doubles home Andrew. Lieberthal gets in to the act himself with an RBI double of his own. When all is said and done in the first, Hollywood leads 3-0. Andrew Jones ups it to 4-0 with an RBI double to left. Huff than picks up an RBI of his own with a SF to enter and a 5-0 lead. After Aurelia leads off with a double in the 4th, Morris is pulled. Jones picks up his 3rd and 4th RBIs of the game with a 2-RBI single to center which puts Hollywood up 7-0. Green adds HR number 20 and RBIs 62 and 63 with a 2-run dinger. Hollywood holds on to rout the Express 9-2.

Game 3: With the Series tied at 1, it’s the battle of the Hernandez’s. Kielty homers in the first for the Werewolves and gives them a 2-0 lead. Aurelia adds another in the 2nd with an RBI double. Winn singles to center to knock him in to make it 4-0. Costly injury to Jeremy Giambi when he is hit in the hand (lost for 6 days). Carlos Hernandez goes a strong 7 and is pulled in the 8th for the pen. The Express adds 2 late, but Hollywood hangs on to win 5-2.

Game 4: Meluskey singles home Ensberg (who tripled) to give Hollywood a 1-0 lead in the first. They add 3 MORE, when Andrew Jones CRACKS number 21 and add RBIs 54, 55 and 56. Ensberg makes it a 5-0 game with an RBI single to right that knocks Affeldt out of the game in the 2nd. Green looks at Andrew before stepping in to the box and says, “Anything you can do, I can do better..” and does he! He CREAMS a 2-run (not exactly better, but you get the point) for #21 of his own, thus running up his AL RBI leading total to 65. Hollywood loses Hafner (when leading 7-0) for 24 DAYS when he runs in to the wall in foul territory. We’ll be looking for an emergency pick up here…. Another very good pitching job by the Hollywood staff as they win 8-0 and go up 3 games to 1 in the series.

Game 5: WOW, what a series SHAWN GREEN is having. He hammers his 3rd HR of the series, increasing his HRs to 22 and RBIs to 67. Thomas cuts the lead in half with a solo shot and then Vander Wal gives the Express the lead with a 2-run dinger, making it 3-2. Shawn Green DOES it AGAIN! He goes YARD for his 2nd of the game, his 4th of the series and his 23rd of the season. He also pushes that RBI total to 69! Bad defense by the Express leads to another Hollywood run and a 5-3 lead. Fogg is pulled in the 4th when he walks Meluskey with 1 out. Hollywood adds 2 more on a 2-out 2-RBI single by Aurelia to up their lead to 7-3. Back to back doubles by AROD and Thomas help cut the lead to 7-4. Ryan gets a little wild after Winn doubles and walks Green-Kielty-Jones and Lieberthal all in a row that forces in 2 Hollywood runs. Hollywood goes on to rout the Express again, this time 12-4.

Game 6: Nomo is looking for his redemption after losing Game 1 of the series. Hollywood has won 4 straight since that loss. Jason Lane sacrifices home Win to give the Werewolves the early lead once more. Aurelia homers in the 2nd to make it 2-0. Marrero homers to cut the lead to 2-1 Jones gets that run back with an RBI single to right. Jason Lane than goes YARD for the first time this year and Hollywood leads 6-1 after 5 innings. Nomo goes a STRONG 7 and leaves with an 8-1 lead. Well, with the game out of reach, SHAWN GREEN does it AGAIN, for his 5th of the series and 24th of the season. He leaves the series with 70 RBIs. Hollywood ROUTS the EXPRESS for the 4th time in the series, this time 9-3.

WOW, what a series Shawn Green had! 5 Home Runs 9 RBIs

The team that scored first won in EVERY GAME and EVERY WINNING TEAM scored in the FIRST!!

Hollywood needs to pick up an emergency player for their next series and will speak to the Commissioner on that.

Hollywood takes 5 of 6!
