Pittsburgh vs. Chicago – Written by Chicago Mobsters – John “Stray” Corrado – Games played Head 2 Head using Logmein.com

Chicago starts defense of their 2008 MWBL Championship.

Game #1 – In a See-Saw battle Pittsburgh takes Game #1 in extra innings by a score of 5 to 4.

Game #2 – The Pittsburgh Team should be called the “NATS” as they were pesky and kept coming back around and around.  Final score in Game #2 was Pittsburgh 9, Chicago 8.  Lance Berkman hots 2 HR’s and drives 5 RBI’s.

Game #3 – Berkman goes 3 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI’s.  Chicago loses again by 1 run, 6-5 in 11 innings.

Game #4 – Chicago falls a run short and loses the series 4 games to none.   Final score in Game #4 -Pittsburgh 5, Chicago 4.

The Mobsters from Chicago were just out managed in this one.  The games were all very close, but Pittsburgh’s Manager John Niespodzianski played every move right.  Hat’s off to the Lumber Company, and good luck to them in the American League Championship Series.

Severn vs. Coconut Creek

Severn starts defense of their 2007 MWBL Championship.

Game 1 & 2 – Go to Coconut Creek Roy Oswalt vs Brandon Webb

The series returns to Coconut Creek after the Crushers stun Severn with 2 road victories.

Game-3 Another low scoring affair. Shaun Marcum only allows 2 runs to Severn. But, Jesse Litsch takes a shutout into the 9th for Severn. With 1 out, Jerry Hairston Jr. hammers a 2-run homer to send it to extra innings. The bullpens both pitch well but Miguel Cabrera hits an 11th inning solo homer to win it for Severn 3-2.

Game-4 The might Severn offense erupts after a  3 game hibernation. Severn cruises to a 12-5 win.

Game-5 Unlike Game-1 Severn gets to Rich Harden. Carlos Zambrano does a flashback to last year by pitching a complete game shutout to defeat the Crushers 6-0.

Severn returns the favor by sweeping on the road to take the series lead 3-2.

Game 6 – Brad Hawpe gets the Crushers on the board with a 2 run homer in the 1st. The score would remain the same until the 4th when Dan Uggla hits the 2nd 2 run bomb for the Crushers and they take a 4-0 lead. Felipe Lopez leads off the 5th with a double. Holliday cashes him in to get Severn on the board, 4-1. ARod would then follow with a 2 run jack to cut the deficit to 4-3. Ryan Howard would lead off the 6th with a solo shot to increase the lead to 5-3 and that is all the Crushers would need as they hold on to win 5-4.

Game 7 – Bottom of the 1st, Morneau gets on with a double and ARod follows with a 2 run homer to give the Express a 2-0 lead. It would stay that way until the 5th, when Ryan Howard would hit a solo shot to cut the lead to 2-1. In the 6th, Theriot would lead off with a triple. Hairston would walk to make it 1st and 3rd. Hawpe would then hit a double to score both runners and get thrown out at 3rd, Crushers lead 3-2. B6, Holliday has a leadoff single and steals 2nd. Ludwick would plate him with a double to tie the game at 3. McCann would then single to score Ludwick and give the Express a 4-3 lead. That’s the way it would finish as Rivera comes in to close things out in the 9th.

Kentucky vs. Northridge –

Kentucky takes games 1 and 2 at home.

The Quakes take game 3 in extra innings then drop the next 2 and fail to send the series back to Kentucky.

West Coast vs. Sacramento –

In an impressive pitching duel between Peavy and Floyd, Sacramento takes the game 1-0. The game’s only run came off a 2-out triple by Guillen to score catcher David Ross.

Sacramento also took game two, this time with a score of 5-3. Sacramento’s offense is really struggling under the pressure of West Coast’s robust rotation and bullpen. But, once again, Sacramento was able to rely on a couple long balls to get it done.

The Capitals complete the sweep, as the Swing offense never gets into the flow.
