Triple Creek Patriots @ Columbus Explorers

Series Preview: Columbus adds a few new faces since the last time they were in town – fans are excited to meet them….
Game #1: Steven Brault makes his 1st Columbus start and comes away a winner. He goes 6 innings, 3 hits, 3 runs – it was a Cody Bellinger 3 run homer (8). Bellinger adds another (9) in the 8th for his 4th rbi – but Columbus had a 6-3 lead at the time thanks to a Charlie Blackmon 2 run homer (6) in the 7th. Columbus adds 2 more in the 8th – thanks in part to a big 4 hit, 3 rbi performance from D.J. LeMahieu.
TCP 5- 7-1 LP Frank Montas (0-3) (9 Ks in 5.1 ip)
COL 8-12-1 WP Brault (4-1) S Kyle Ryan
Game #2: The Shanester – Shane Bieber – takes the hill for the Patriots sporting a 6-1 record and he does the Bieber thing mowing down the Explorers. His counterpart Mike Fiers is attempting to mimic him and does a fine job. His only mistake was a 4th inning homer slugged by Mitch Moreland (4) giving the Patriots the 1-0 lead. That’s all Bieber would need – well not quite. The bottom of the 6th got hairy for him as Columbus finally gets some hits including a big 2 run Trevor Story homer (13). Columbus plates 3 in the 6th and J.B. Wendelken and Liam Hendriks shut the door on any rally attempts by Triple Creek.
TCP 1-6-1 LP Bieber (6-2)
COL 3-6-1 WP Fiers (1-2) S Hendriks (14)
Game #3: OK – it’s get the brooms out for the sweep! NOT SO FAST. Alex Wood gets the Patriots start and he also gets the opener’s nod and is pulled in the 2nd. His replacement, Joacim Soria gets off to a shaky start as his only walk leads to a SF by Charlie Blackmon. Meanwhile, Jordan Lyles is doing great (he’d heard he’d been on the trading block, but he found out he still resides in Columbus – and he was happy). But in the 4th inning he gives up 4 unearned runs. However, the unearned part was due to HIS OWN fielding error (and then a bunch of walks – 5 of them in the 3.2 innings and most of them were in the 4 run 4th).Cody Bellinger – 2 hits in the game – contributed a 2 run single in the 4th. Yadir Molina got a 2 run single late in the game to ice it.
TCP 6-6-1 WP Soria (1-1)
COL 1-6-1 LP Lyles (3-1)
Series Summary: 2 wins in 3 games – is always good, but it means probably (not guaranteed of course) losing ground to Tempe. Columbus heads out on the road for a 2 spot at Rosemere and then a 3 spot at Tempe.

Motor City Muscle @ Chicago Mobsters

Series Preview: Two solid teams hook up in the Windy City of Chicago!
Game #1: Chicago starts hot & stays hot as six of the players have RBI’s. Lance McCullers goes 5.2 Innings before the pen takes over. Casey Mize makes his Mid-West Baseball League debut.

Final Score: Chicago 9 – Motor City 1

Win: Lance McCullers 3-3 (3.33)
Loss: Masahiro Tanaka 2-2 (3.54)

Game #2: The Muscle holds a 4-2 lead into the 8th inning, but their pen costs them late. Michael Tauchman has a 4 for 4 day with 2 Doubles. Jesus Luzardo started for Chicago & struck out 12 in 6.2 Innings. Mobsters walk it off in the bottom of the 9th for the win!

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Motor City 4

Win: Bobby Abreu 1-0 (16.20)
Loss: Eric Yardley 1-2 (3.38)

Game #3: Chicago is down late in this one as well. With the score 3-2 Motor City, Eric Yardley is back on the bump trying to lock down the win for the Muscle. Kolten Wong leads off the bottom of the 9th with a Single. Joey Votto reaches on a Matt Franco Error at Third Base. Alex Bregman steps up with two on, none out & launches a 3-Run Home Run over the left-field wall to walk it off in the bottom of the 9th for the second day in a row.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Motor City 3

Win: Tyler Matzek 1-0 (2.04)
Loss: Eric Yardley 1-3 (4.07)

Series Summary: A very close series with a couple of late Inning Wins for the Mobsters. Motor City deserved better fate, but Chicago management is very happy with the outcome.

Fremont Cannons @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: A couple of games apart and hoping for playoff spots, Fremont travels to take on the Virginia Sluggers.
Game #1: VIR 1-0 W-E.Hernandez (2-2) L-S.Alcantara (2-2) SV-T.Webb (11)

Cavan Biggio only got one hit in the game and it came in the 2nd inning. But oh what a hit it turned out to be. “C. BIGGIO facing S. ALCANTARA, B 2nd, 1 Out, Bases Empty, Tied 0-0 …Here’s the pitch … BIGGIO hits it nine miles … deep to right field … fair ball!…and it’s long gone! … home run for BIGGIO … he has poked one out down the line…CANNONS 0, SLUGGERS 1”. And that was all the offense there was. Hernandez had the game well in hand. He scattered 4 hits while walking 2 batters and striking out 12 in 8.1 innings. Y.Moncada was the only batter not fooled by Hernandez as he went 3-4 for the Cannons.

Game #2: VIR 9-3 W-T.McKenzie (1-3) L-Z.Gallen (4-3)

Virginia lived up to their name as they slugged their way to 5 runs in the 1st and 4 in the 7th courtesy of 4 homeruns,…with G.Springer launching one in each inning. Both Springer and E.Jimenez finished with 4 RBI each. In fact all 9 runs scored on homers as C.Biggio got the other RBI on a solo homer. McKenzie did well in picking up his first win of the season as he struck 13 batters in 7 innings.

Game #3: FRE 8-5 W-T.Skubal (4-3) L-C.Mazza (2-2) SV-G.Gallegos (7)

Any thought of a Virginia sweep was crushed in the 2nd inning as Fremont hit the ball and hit the ball and hit the ball. When the inning final ended the Cannons had plated 5 runs and the Sluggers were shell shocked. Not one ball cleared the fence, but they sure as heck kept falling in the outfield grass. FRE would add 3 more runs later in the game to salvage the win in the final game of the series. Yaz got 2 hits and 2 RBI, Correa got 2 hits. Mmargot got 2 RBI and T.Wade, from the 9 hole, was 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. VIR did pop 2 homeruns, but they were solo shots.

Series Summary: Fremont avoided the sweep with a win in the last game and is now tied with Virginia as the two teams battle for a playoff spot.
G.Springer .308 4 hits, 3 Home Runs, 5 RBI, 3 runs scored.
