Yonge Street Stalkers @ Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas

Series Summary: Chihuahuas score 6 in the bottom of the 9th in game to win 10-9.   Series Sweep.

Dallas Cougars @ Fremont Cannons

Series Preview: Fremont comes into the series only two games behind their AL East rivals. With a healthy, rested lineup and two of their top starters going, the hope is to be even when the series is over.
Game #1: Fremont finds itself trailing instantly with a leadoff homer from Dallas’s Josh Harrison off of Dylan Bundy. Yoan Moncada and Mike Brosseau commit back-to-back errors in the second to put two on, then Bundy gives up another homer to Andres Gimenez to score three more for the Cougars.

Daivid Hale has pitched well to this point, but allows the Cannons to get on the board with a solo shot from Carlos Correa in the third. Dallas counters with a run in the fourth off of a throwing error by Dylan Bundy. Fremont gets to Hale again in the sixth with a two-run homer by Teoscar Hernandez to bring it to a 5-3 deficit. Hale did enough to hold Fremont’s offense to three runs, and the Cougars turn the game over to the bullpen in the seventh and hold on for the 5-3 victory.

W: David Hale (1-0)
L: Dylan Bundy (3-2)
S: Caleb Thielbar (2)

HR: DAL- Josh Harrison (2), Andres Gimenez (1); FRE- Teoscar Hernandez (8), Carlos Correa (4)

Game #2: Scrap Iron Jones’s mismanagement of Sandy Alcantara continue to affect the Cannons, as he is too tired to start even with six days of rest. Fremont instead has to turn to rookie Spencer Howard, with disastrous results.

Howard allows four runs in the first, with the big blow being a 3-run homer by Will D. Smith. Ryan Dozier contributes a 3-run homer in the second, and the rout is on. Fremont tacks on a few runs against Dallas starter Kris Bubic, but waves the white flag after Will D. Smith’s second homer of the game in the fifth. Dallas wins 13-3. Fremont leaves 12 men on base in the game, but would have needed a lot more than that to win this.

W: Kris Bubic (2-1)
L: Spencer Howard (0-1)

HR: DAL- Will D. Smith 2 (6), Ryan Dozier (3), Gregory Polanco (4); FRE- none

Series Summary: Dallas pads their lead over Fremont to 4 games as poor defense and the repercussions of poor micromanaging spell their doom. Both teams travel internationally next, as Fremont hopes to rebound at Tijuana, while Dallas heads north to Yonge Street.

Corktown Cycle @ Valdosta Snappers

Series Preview: The dregs of the NL meet up in Valdosta for 2.
Game #1: Valdosta 3-2 (10 Innings). AJ Minter picks up a win as the Snappers walk it off thanks to a game ending PB. Bad news for the Cycle though as Brian Dalbek goes down with an injury. The next AB after he hit a 2-Run HR, he got beaned and will be out 18 days.
Game #2: Corktown 23-5. The cycle roll right over Valdosta with a huge blowout. Three of the Cycle had 4 hits but only Ryan Mountcastle knocked in 7. Valdosta catcher, Jeff Mathis, hit a 2-run HR in the 1st inning for the 2nd consecutive game.
Series Summary: Split. The Snappers gave most of the regulars both games off in an attempt to give some guys some rest. That had little effect on the outcome though.

Virginia Sluggers @ Southbend Lynx

Series Preview: Virginia in the hunt for a playoff spot travels in to play Southbend, who is nowhere near a playoff spot.
Game #1: Southbend is dominated by Virginia starter A.Plutko as he tosses a 4 hit shutout. Plutko fans 5 and walk 3 but is never in any real trouble during the game. Virginia’s Jimenez goes 4-5 but the overall theme for Virginia was balanced offense as they get RBIs from 5 different players. Biggio is a spakplug at the top of the order drawing 3 walks and scoring twice. VIR Plutko gets the win and SBL Foltynewicz takes the loss.

Virginia 6, Southbend 0

Game #2: Virgina gets out to an early 3-0 lead after 2 innings. Using the back-to-back solo HRs by S.Murphy and Rizzo in the 2nd to build their lead. Southbend finally shows some life with a 5 run3rd inning with the big hit being a bases loaded 2-rbi 1b by K.Tucker; Cave, Muncy, and Meadows all drive in runs in the inning. Bun the lead is short lived as VIR Jimenez swats a 3-run HR in the 4th and its pretty much downhill from there for Southbend.

Virgina adds 3 more in the 5th and ends up cruising to a 13-6 win. Along the way S.Murphy goes 5-5 w/ 4 runs scored, 5 rbi, 1-2b, and 3-HRs! Springer hits a dinger and Rizzo ends up with 2 HRs of his own. VIR Hill gets the win in relief and SBL Oviedo gets the loss.

Virginia 13, Southbend 6

Series Summary: Virginia scores at will against the Southbend pitching staff and sweeps the two game series.
