Cincinnati Skyliners @ Chicago Mobsters

Series Preview: A playoff contender matches up against a rebuilding franchise in its 1st year of existence in the Mid-West Baseball League. This one could be brutal either way. If Chicago wins it might be a beating over the Skyliners. If Cincinnati wins it will be humiliating for the Mobsters. Let’s see what unfolds.
Game #1: Cincinnati gets out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st, but Chicago ties it up in the bottom half. The Mobsters go up 3-1 by the end of the 3rd and hold that lead till the 8th when the Skyliners knot it up at 3 Runs apiece. With two out in the bottom of the 9th, Andrew McCutchen singles home Shogo Akiyama with the winning run as the Mobsters escape with a 1-run victory.

Final Score: Chicago 4 – Cincinnati 3

Win: Jeremy Jeffress 2-1 (2.70)
Loss: Pierce Johnson 2-1 (3.38)

Game #2: Tommy Edman has 2 RBI’s as does Brian Goodwin who also homered for the Skyliners. Luis Arraez has 2 RBI’s & Alex Bregman Homers & has 3 RBI’s. But the game is tied at 5 headed to the 9th. The Skyliners put up a zero spot, while the Mobsters get a Nelson Cruz Double which scores Alex Bregman – winning the second game in a row the Mobsters in their last At-Bats with a 1-run victory.

Final Score: Chicago 5 – Cincinnati 4

Win: Amir Garrett 1-0 (3.38)
Loss: Nik Turley 0-2 (5.40)

Game #3: Late clutch hitting in the 7th & 8th has the Skyliners getting on the board late. Choi, Ji-Man has two Doubles & 2 RBI’s for Cincinnati. Tim Lopes who has been a pest in the Mobsters side has the other RBI for the Skyliners. Chicago gets homers & 2 RBI’s from Alex Bregman & Joey Votto as well as a lone RBI from Andrew McCutchen. Yonge Street Stalkers @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: Virginia 13-10 takes on Yonge Street 10-13.
Virginia with no pitching banks on its hitting to win games.
The Banks must have been closed.
Game #1: VIR 2-0 W-L.Castillo (5-0) L-M.Pineda (1-1) Sv-T.Webb (9)

It was all Castillo as he struck out 14 on his way to 8 innings of 2-hit, shutout ball. S.Murphy’s 2nd inning 2-run blast was all he needed.

Game #2: YSS 7-3 W-T.Walker (1-1) L-M.Baez (0-2)

After the first game, this series belonged to Yonge Street. Pounding out 10 hits with homers from D.Solano, A.Nola, and T.d’Arnaud, YSS cruised to an easy win.

Game #3: YSS 11-4 W-B.Singer (2-2) L-T.Williams (0-1)

This game was so bad for VIR that they got only 1 hit off two grades, 1 pitcher, over 3 innings! YSS, however, totaled 18 hits! 18! And not just little dinks. A.Frazier hit 2 homers, D.Solano hit 2, and A.Nola and J.Soler chipped in with 1 each. I think this may be the beginning of the downward spiral I figured would catch up to the pitching staff.

Series Summary: Yonge Street takes the series 2-1 and VIR was lucky to get the one win. Look out cellar. here we come.

Hollywood Werewolves @ Coconut Creek Crushers

Series Summary: Coconut Creek sweeps Hollywood at home. Hollywood could barely muster any hits. The inconsistent hitting is exposing Hollywood’s biggest weakness.

Tijuana Bottle Rockets @ Mesa Solar Sox

Series Preview: Tijuana (8-15) comes to the desert to play 3 against the Solar Sox of Mesa (11-12).
Game #1: Kyle Hendricks (4-0) hurls 8 innings of 3 hit ball, allowing 2 walks, striking out 10, and giving up a solo HR to Garrett Hampson. Meanwhile, mesa uses its 9 hits wisely throughout the lineup and wins 4-1.
Game #2: Starling Marte drives in 3 with 2 doubles in support of Christian Javier’s complete game, 4 hit, 6-2 win. All 4 hits from Tijuana were for extra bases, the big blow being a two-run homer from Gary Sanchez.
Game #3: Tim Anderson hit a trio of homers, (driving in 6) in Mesa’s 9-1 win. Tanner Roarke was chased early for Tijuana, getting only one out and allowing a two-run homer to Andrew Stevenson and a three-run bomb to Anderson. Justin Dunn won his 3rd, giving up 3 hits in 7 innings and only one run ( a solo HR from Cedric Mullins).
Series Summary: Tijuana was outscored 19-4 and out hit 30-12 in the Solar Sox sweep.

Game #2: Pillar 2nd HR in T16 (…) seals it for Tempe. 6-3.
Game #3: Tempe strikes first but once again, Rosemere scores a bunch of unanswered runs. 7-1.

VS 1 TCP 4

W – Strahm (3-1)
L – Zimmerman (1-1)
S – Soria (2)

Game #2: Toussaint and Bieber battled for nearly 8 full innings to a 1-1 tie. Touki scattered seven hits and 3 walks while Shane allowed only 3. It took extras today and light hitting Caratini brought home the game-winner in the 10th.

VS 1 TCP 2

W – Holland (1-0)
L – Minter (0-1)

Game #3: Valdosta was having nothing to do with a sweep as their bats hit all comers for a total of 12 hits. Riley 3-5 w/ 3 doubles, Suzuki 2-3 w/ 1 2-run HR and Acuna 2-4 w/ a HR paced the visitor’s offense.

VS 7 TCP 2

W – Ponce de Leon (2-0)

Series Summary: Triple Creek takes the hard-fought series 2-1.

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Detroit Crime

Series Summary: Detroit takes series 2-1 over Southwest Detroit.

Southbend Lynx @ Fremont Cannons

Series Preview: Fremont is pushing for the playoffs this year, while Southbend is hanging around the bottom of the American League
Game #1: Southbend only manages 6 hits, but they all go for extra bases. Fremont starter Zac Gallen struggles, allowing 4 runs in seven innings as his ERA climbs to 4.86, and commits an error. Southbend starter Carlos E. Hernandez allows just 3 hits and goes the distance for the CG win, as the Lynx take it 5-1.

W: Carlos E. Hernandez (2-2)
L: Zac Gallen (2-2)

HR: SBL-Logan Forsythe (3); FRE- none

Game #2: More of the same early. Southbend puts 4 on Cannon’s starter Danny Duffy (including a bases-loaded walk) in the third to take the early lead. Lynx starter Nick Pivetta holds the Cannons scoreless until Byron Buxton hits a 2-run homer in the seventh to bring the game within two. Southbend regains the advantage with a run each in the eighth and ninth inning.

Matt Barnes puts two on base for Fremont in the bottom of the ninth before Tyler Duffey is called on to close it out. Duffey walks pinch-hitter James McCann, and then a Max Muncy error brings in two runs. Mike Brosseau steals second, and it is up to Carlos Correa with runners on second and third with two outs. He lines a shot down the line to right field, but Kyle Tucker is there to make the running catch to close out the 6-4 Lynx victory.

W: Nick Pivetta (2-2)
L: Danny Duffy (1-1)
S: Tyler Duffey (6)

HR: SBL-none; FRE- Byron Buxton (7)

Game #3: After being dominated by two Grade 3 starters and allowing Southbend’s lineup to beat up on Fremont’s starters, the Cannons put rookie Tarik Skubal on the mound. Skubal proved to be the man for the job, not allowing a hit until the seventh inning. He left striking out 10 and allowing two runs in eight innings. Lynx starter Mike Foltynewicz didn’t fare as well, getting chased in the second inning as the Cannons scored 7 in the frame. Fremont cruises to a 9-2 victory in the finale.

W: Tarik Skubal (2-3)
L: Mike Foltynewicz (0-3)

HR: SBL- Mark Canha (8); FRE- Teoscar Hernandez (4), Kyle Higashioka (2)

Series Summary: Southbend takes it 2-1. Next week Southbend takes on another struggling team in Tijuana, while Fremont has a key series with Chicago.
