Mesa Solar Sox @ Chicago Mobsters

Series Preview: Mesa rolls into the Windy City for a quick two-game set vs. the hometown Mobsters. Both teams with playoff aspirations.
Game #1: Bottom of the 1st Nelson Cruz gets plunked & lost to the Mobsters for the series. Andrew Heaney goes 7 strong innings for the Solar Sox allowing only 1 Earned Run, a 5th inning RBI Sacrifice Fly to Pinch Hitter Alex Bregman. Lance McCullers was stellar as well for the Mobsters allowing only 3 Hits, 0 Walks while fanning 6 during his 5.2 Innings of work. Brusdar Graterol went two perfect Innings for Mesa & held Chicago at bay. Chicago’s pen was just as good (f not better) as they went 3.1 Innings & held Mesa off the board.

Final Score: Chicago 1 – Mesa 0

Win: Lance McCullers 2-0 (1.85)
Loss: Andrew Heaney 0-4 (6.65
Save: Aroldis Chapman #3

Game #2: Mesa scored early in the 3rd with a Solo Home Run by Adam Duvall. Chicago was down 1-0 in the bottom of the 9th when Kevin Kiermaier led off with a walk. Mesa replaced Pablo Lopez who had went 8 scoreless Innings with Shawn Armstrong. Two Wild Pitches in a row by Armstrong moved the runner to third & an RBI single by Francisco Mejia knotted the score at 1 Run apiece. It became a bullpen & empty your bench type of game in extra Innings as Mesa used 2 more Relievers & 3 Pinch Hitters. Chicago used 5 Relievers & 4 Pinch Hitters as the game went into the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th. With 1-Out Luis Aaaez Doubles, followed up by an Intentional Walk to Kevin Kaiemaier to set up a Double Play by Mesa. Chicago who had invalidated the Designated Hitter much early in the game brought their last bench player into Pinch Hit – Keibert Ruiz. Ruiz a Rookie with 3 At-Bats in his career became a hero at home in the Windy City. Bomb. 3-Run shot off of John Curtiss. Ball-Game Over, celebration at home plate. Chicago win’s it in the 16th.

Final Score: Chicago 4 – Mesa 1 (16 Innings)

Win: Jeremy Jeffress 1-1 (2.08)
Loss: John Curtiss 1-2 (5.59)

Series Summary: Chicago picks up 2 Wins in a series that could easily have gone the other way. Both teams are a little tired after the 16 Inning affair, but a day of rest will help before Chicago heads to Southbend for a 3 game set. Mesa is headed home to take on the Skyliners from Cincinnati next week.

Detroit Crime @ Virginia Sluggers

Series Preview: Two teams with decent records, Detroit 10-6 and Virginia 9-7. However, one has pitching (Detroit) and the other (Virginia) does not.
Game #1: VIR 5-4 W-G.Hartlieb (1-0) L-A.Loup (1-1) SV-T,Webb (7)

B.Anderson’s solo blast in the first gave Virginia a 1-0 lead that was short-lived as Y.Grndal countered with his own solo shot in the 2nd. In the 4th, R.Devers laced one into the RF seats for his 3rd of the year and a 3-1 VIR lead. Detroit’s turn now. Top of the 5th. K.Schwarber ripped one to center with the bases loaded for an RBI single and another run crossed the plate when W.Merrifield misplayed the ball. Y.Grandal followed with a SF and DET took a 4-3 lead. But the Sluggers lived up to their name as J.Segura got hold of an A. Loup fastball in the 7th and crushed it into the second deck in CF for a 2-run homer and a 5-4 VIR lead. And it stayed that way for a VIR win.

Game #2: DET 5-0 W-M.Minor (2-1) L-A.Plutko (2-2)

Detroit showcased its pitching in the second game. Only it was a grade 5 pitcher that led them to the shutout. M.Minor threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball and left with a 4-0 lead. He handed off to W.Suero for 2 innings of 2-hit ball and Detroit polished of the Sluggers just like that. B.Belt’s 4th dinger of the year and B.Crawford’s 2nd led the Crime’s 10-hit attack.

Series Summary: A 1-1 split for Virginia felt like a series win. For Detroit? Probably not so much.

Portland Lumber Jax @ Corktown Cycle

Game #1: Corktown has a huge 7 run 6th inning and goes on to win a 10-9 shootout.
Game #2: Portland comes back with a 10 run win of their own. Ryan Jeffers had a 5 RBI game in the Lumber Jax 10-6 W
Series Summary: These teams split the 2 game series.

Pittsburgh Lumber Company @ Rosemere Renegades

Game #1: A catcher interference after two outs in the 1st lead to a 3 run HR for a 3-2 PIT win :(.
Game #2: Hoskin 1st inning 3 runs shot was the difference. 5-3 ROS.
Series Summary: Not a lot of runs for a series split.

Coconut Creek Crushers @ Cincinnati Skyliners

Series Preview: Coconut Creek makes its first-ever visit to Glenn Sample Field in Cincinnati for a two-game set.
Game #1: CIN 6, CCC 3
Game #2: CCC 5, CIN 3
Series Summary: Series split.

Triple Creek Patriots @ Tempe Tempers

Series Preview: Tempe returns home after being on the road the last four weeks to host Triple Creek for a short two-game series.
Game #1: Kim dominated through the first five innings and a 5th inning homerun by Dickerson allowed him to pick up the win. A Bellinger solo home run was the only run scored by the Patriots off the Tempe RP.
Tempe 3-1
Kim 4-0 W
Gausman 2-1 L
Kluber 1st Sv
Game #2: Tempe jumped all over Anderson for six runs and knocked him out of the game after 1.1 innings. Darvish picked a good day to have his worse start of the year giving up three runs in just five innings.
Tempe 7-3
Darvish 5-0 W
Anderson 1-1 L
Series Summary: Triple Creek missed some key opportunities in the first game that prevented them from getting the spit. They should rebound quite well over the next couple of weeks with a rather light schedule in the short term. Tempe will be back on the road again for two more weeks before finally getting a nice long homestand.

Harsens Island Walleye @ Long Beach Dirt Bags

Game #1: Andrus broke a 2-2 tie with a solo HR in the 5th and Long Beach won 3-2. Garcia threw 6 strong innings and 3 relievers closed out the win. Arenado hit a 2 run HR for the Walleye’s runs.
Game #2: This game was 2-2 in the 12th when with 2 outs Davis hit a flyball to RF Ervin who dropped it allowing PR Mercado to score the winning run in the Harsens Island 3-2 win. Both starting pitchers were strong as Urena pitched into the 10th and Lynn struck out 13 in 9 innings.
Series Summary: Harsens Island and Long Beach split 2 games.

Hollywood Werewolves @ Motor City Muscle

Series Summary: Another 2 game split.

Bethesda Bandicoots @ Columbus Explorers

Series Preview: Bethesda and Columbus meet for the short set – 2 games. These teams love to beat up on each other – Columbus is off to a surprising start (1 game behind all-world Tempe) in a season they were picked to finish about last. Smoke and mirror and offense!!?? Bethesda is in the middle of the pack, but they have Mitch Keller – and he’s pitching this series!!!!
Game #1: The opening game features a couple of Grade 3 Aces, Jake Odorizzi for the ‘Coots and Julio Teheran for the Explorers. Explorers have to rest a bunch of their offense, so they are counting on everyone doing well!! Well, Juan Soto (9), Jeff McNeil (4), Kyle Seager (5), and Stephen Vogt (2) all played well – but for the ‘Coots as they each hit solo homers – 1 each in the 1st 3 innings and then the final in the 7th. And that was plenty as the Explorers who played couldn’t solve Odorizzi who goes 7.1 innings, 3 hits for the win.
BET 4-9-1 WP Odorizzi (2-0)
COL 1-4-0 LP Teheran (1-1)
Game #2: So the resting strategy (actually much needed) didn’t work – and now we face Mitch Keller (Grade 20). J.A. Happ gets the nod and he gives up a 2 out solo homer to Juan Soto (10) in the 1st to start things going for the ‘Coots. Keller was doing OK but was having some control issues. And he had a fielding issue – his own throwing error – and that led to 2 unearned runs. In fact, he gives up 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. Columbus scores 2 in the 3rd, 5th, and then 2 in the 7th on a Salvador Perez 2 run homer (4). Giovanny Urshela drives in 2 on a double and a 3rd run on a SF. Charlie Blackmon whacks a solo homer (3) and the Explorers get the win 6-1! Happ didn’t give up much after the opening inning homer and 3 relievers give up 1 hit in 3 innings.
BET 1-6-1 LP Keller (2-1)
COL 6-8-0 WP Happ (2-1)
Series Summary: The series splits 1-1 as the Bandicoots win the game of the scrubs and Columbus is able to get past Keller.

1Jersey Nor’easters
Valdosta Snappers

Series Preview:  A two (2) game set. It was announced prior to the series that Ronald Acuna, Jr. would likely be given the series off for the Snappers.
Game #1: Jersey 9-4. Wade Miley made his season debut for the Snappers and it was quite forgettable as he gave up 5 runs in 3 IP. Ryan McBroom homered twice for Valdosta.
Game #2: Valdosta 6-2. This game featured 26 K’s between the 2 teams. Cole Hamels pitched 8 and struck out 13 as he improved to 1-3 on the year. The Snappers’ Willy Adames had 4 hits including his 5th HR of the young season.
Series Summary: 1-1 split.

Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Tijuana Bottle Rockets

Series Preview: Southwest Detroit visits Tijuana for 2 games
Series Summary: These 2 rebuilding teams split.

Fremont Cannons @ Yonge Street Stalkers

Series Preview: The Cannons visit Yonge Street. Fremont started the season sizzling, but both teams enter the quick 2 game set having split their previous ten games.
Game #1: The Gerrit Cole show, CGSO 14K. Travis d’Arnaud hit a 3 run HR in the 5th, Darren Ruf followed next with a solo shot. Tarik Skubal was a bit shaky. YSS 6 – FRE 0
Game #2: Zac Gallen wasn’t stellar (7+ IP, 5ER), but he was good enough to beat spot starter Caleb Baragar and the ultra shaky YSS pen. Mike Yaz had a huge game. He went 4-6 with a triple and 2 HR. It’s games like this one that allow me to sneak Will Smith into the game late. His ’20 card is fascinating. He threw 16.0 innings, allowed 11 H and 4 BB. He K’d 18 and had a half reasonable 4.50 ERA. Look closer, You’ll see that of the 11 hits he surrendered…7 were homers. So he’s got that going for him. Anyhow, he pitched two-thirds of an inning and gave up 5 hits. 2 were homers. FRE 12 – YSS 6
Series Summary: Fremont returns to Ohio to host CCC, while YSS enjoys the home cooking and will welcome TIJ.

Selkirk Steelers @ Sacramento Capitals

Game #1: Glasnow wasn’t as sharp this time around, giving up 5 hits, 6 walks, and 4 runs through 8 innings, but it was good enough to earn him the win. An unlikely 3-run home run from Leon helped a bit. Sacramento wins 5-4.
Game #2: Selkirk knocked Scherzer out early, hitting him hard for 2 innings–5 hits, 5 runs, and 2 HR. But, the Capitals pen stepped up and pitched 7 innings giving up only 1 earned run. Sacramento wins 11-8.
Series Summary: California takes two during our FIRST home-stand of the season.

Dallas Cougars @ Southbend Lynx

Series Preview: Dallas leading the AL faces off against Southbend, who are quickly heading to the bottom of the AL.
Game #1: DAL Suter vs SBL Yamamoto
SBL opens the scoring in the B1 when Joyce bbs and Canha hit a 2-run HR. In the DAL T3 Robles 1bs, steals 2nd, then scores on Laureano’s rbi-1b as he moves into 2nd on the throw home. Gimenez then ties the game with a rbi-1b. In the SBL B5 Canha hits a solo-HR, his 2nd of the game, as SBL retakes the lead.
In the B6 SBL adds 2 more runs when Escobar 3bs and Cordell hit a 2-run HR. On the mound, SBL Yamamoto settles down after the T3 and tosses scoreless innings through the 8th. In the T9 SBL Duffy comes on and gives up a solo-HR to Gyorko but holds on for his 5th save. Yamamoto gets his 1st win and Suter takes the loss.SBL 5, DAL 3
Game #2: DAL Giolito vs SBL Oviedo
Giolito and Oviedo both toss scoreless ball through the first 5 innings. DAL starts the scoring in the T6 with a Pollock solo-HR. In the SBL B7 Tucker bbs, and 2 outs later, scores on an Altuve rbi-2b. The tie was short-lived as DAL strikes back in the T8 when Robles bbs, steals 2nd, and Laureano hits a 2-run HR. SBL inches closer with a run in the B8 off Alvarez
when Canha 1bs with 2 out and then scores on Tucker’s rbi-2b.
DAL would eventually call on Martin in the B9 to close out the game for his 2nd save. DAL Giolito gets the win and SBL Oviedo is handed the loss.DAL 3, SBL 2
Series Summary: Southbend gets a surprising 1-1 split with Dallas.
