Triple Creek Patriots @ Harsens Island Walleye

Series Preview: Triple Creek visits Harsens Island
Series Summary: The Pats take 5 of 6.

Portland Lumber Jax @ Long Beach Dirt Bags

Series Summary: Long Beach takes 5 of 6 from Portland including 3 shutouts.

Tempe Tempers @ Columbus Explorers

Series Preview: Columbus vs. Tempe – they’ve been fighting back and forth the past few years for the division and this year it’s the Explorers with the upper hand. They come in with a magic number of 5 (the Tempers are in 1st for the wild card-with yet again another very good team). But Columbus is also fighting for the top spot in the NL playoffs – and Pittsburgh has gone out lately and made some big deals and is quickly closing the gap.
Game #1: Opening game starter for Columbus is Dario Agrazal – what a pleasant surprise! 10-3 coming into the game, sub 3 ERA and he’s a 5. But today he’s itchy and starts as a 10 – will that go to his head? Yes – today he thought he was Bob Gibson pitching a complete game 3 hitter with 9 Ks. Only a 9th inning Freddy Freeman rbi double spoiled the shutout. But the Explorers could only manage 2 runs themselves. One on a Trevor Story Double, the other on a Story triple in the 8th! The 8th inning also saw new outfielder Juan Lagares crash into the wall (he made the catch) but he will be out for 11 days. He had just come in for defensive help.
TEM 1-3-0 LP Yu Darvish (8-8)
COL 2-7-1 WP Agrazal (11-3)
Game #2: Adam Wainwright squares off against Julio Teheran for game 2 and the scoring starts in the 2nd when Wainwright doubles one for Tempe 1-0 lead. But Columbus ties it in the 3rd when Charlie Blackmon drives one in. Then in the 4th Marcell Ozuna blasts a 2 run homer (32) giving Tempe the 3-1 lead. However, Ian Desmond ties it up in the 6th with a 2 run shot (16) of his own. Next time up, he’s given the IW and Enrique Hernandez makes the Temper pay when he hits a 2 run double in the 8th to put Columbus on top 5-3. Liam Hendriks keeps it that way in the 9th.
TEM 3-4-0 LP Morin Morin (2-1) BS (1)
COL 5-9-1 WP Shoemaker (3-0) S Hendriks (32)
Game #3: Wade Miley goes up against J.A. Happ in this one and Happ starts out very shaky. Leadoff homer (32) to Freddie Freeman, 2 batters latter it’s J.D. Martinez who goes yard (41) for a 2 run shot. Then Xander Bogaerts doubles. Finally, Happ gets someone out. And then the Tempers are blanked the rest of the way by 5 Columbus pitchers. Ian Desmond again hits a 2 run homer (17) – this one in the 5th to tie the game and then Columbus scores 3 in the 8th keyed by a 2 run Asdrubal Cabrera double.
TEM 3-7-0 LP Jared Hughes (4-6)
COL 6-9-0 WP Yusmeiro Petit (4-3) S Steve Cishek (13)
AND THE EXPLORERS CLINCH the NL CENTRAL!
Game #4: Mike Fiers for the home team, Cole Hamels for Tempe. This game featured 6 homers – J.D. Martinez (42) had a solo shot in the 8th for Tempe. But I moved ahead too fast. Xander Bogaerts doubles in the games 1st run in the 1st. Then Marcell Ozuna doubles in 2 more 2 batters later and again the Tempers put up a 3 spot in the 1st. But then Columbus takes over. They bang out 13 hits and score 13 runs, including 5 in the 7th. Charlie Blackmon goes 4 for 5 with3 RBIs and a homer (35). Missed the cycle by a triple. Ian Desmond misses the cycle by a double, going 3 for 4 with a Triple and a homer (18) – again – and 4 RBIs. Fiers settled down going 5 for the win and Mike Shoemaker made his last regular-season appearance with 2 more strong innings of relief.
TEM 4- 8-1 LP Nick Ramirez (5-6)
COL 13-13-1 WP Fiers (10-9)
Game #5: Columbus decides to score first in this one and gets 2 run homers from Robinson Chirinos (14) and D.J. LaMahieu (18) in the 2nd and 3rd innings. Jordan Lyles is cruising – UNTIL the 5th inning then his wheels feel off. Pinch-hitter MattThaiss singles in 1, the J.D. Martinez forces in 1 and Xander Bogaerts doubles in 2 as the Tempers score 4 to tie it in the 5th. It stayed that way until Explorers team leader Charlie Blackmon hits a solo homer (36) in the 7th to break the tie. Liam Hendriks was called in the 5th to stop the big Tempers riot and he pitched the rest of the 5th and 6th. Then newcomer Adam Ottavino came on for the 7th and he lasted the rest of the game – facing 9 in 3 innings giving up a hit, fanning 4, and getting a DP to keep his numbers little.
TEM 4-7-2 LP Alex Claudio (3-3)
COL 5-8-1 WP Ottavino (4-0)
Game #6: Adam Wainwright vs. Homer Bailey. Familiar start, Freddie Freeman homers (33) to open the game. 2 batters later, J.D. Martinez follows with a solo shot (43) and it’s 2-0 Tempe. However, D.J. LeMahieu hits a 2 run homer (19) in the bottom half to tie at 2-2. But that was about all Columbus could muster in this one. Wainwright left after 1 for a pinch-hitter. Nick Ramirez comes in and struggles his way through 2 scoreless innings, but it was enough for the win. Tempe puts up 3 runs in the 4th including a 2 run triple from PH Matt Thaiss (hitting for Ramirez). Then they get single runs in the 5th and 6th including a Marcell Ozuna homer (33). So they finish with a bang on offense and solid pitching from the bullpen!
TEM 7-11-1 WP Ramirez (6-6)
COL 2- 3-3 LP Bailey (14-9)
Series Summary: Almost a sweep with 5 wins and a series win of 10-3 over Tempe (unheard of). Switch that around and the 2 teams would be much closer. Tempe now heads home to solidify their wild card chase while Columbus heads on the road to wrap up the regular season. They’ll need a lot of wins to stay ahead of Pittsburgh and next week they go to Sacramento before finishing the season at Selkirk.

The runners take their lead – ODORIZZI deals – blooped to second – SCHOOP’s racing over – what a catch!   Tags second – he runs GALLO back – and tags him for the out.
Unbelievable!  –  an unassisted triple play!

Game #1: SBL score first in the B$ when Canha 1bs and scores on Owings 2-out rbi-2b as Laureano and Robles both pull up and let the ball go to the wall. SBL adds 1 more in the B5 on a Viloria rbi-1b. In the T6 DAL Abreu cuts the lead in half with a rbi-1b. DAL ties the game in the T8 on a Robles solo-HR. The bullpens take over tossing 4 shutout innings each. SBL Kinley tosses a scoreless 13th to set up SBL in the bottom half of the inning. DAL Hale in for his 4th inning of work on gives up a lead-off 1b to K.Tucker, who steals 2nd, Fraley then botches the bunt as Tucker is nailed at 3rd. Viloria then comes through again with an H&R 1b to put runners at the corners. Forsythe then brings the home crowd to its feet with a walk-off 3-run HR, his 7th of the season.

SBL 5, DAL 2

Game #2: DAL takes the lead in the T4 on a Smoak solo-HR. SBL Muncy ties it up with a solo-HR in the B4. In the T5 Robles draws a 2 out bb, Castro H&R 1b, and Pollock rbi-1b make it 2-1 DAL. SBL Meadows ties it with a solo-HR in the B6. DAL Robles hits a solo-HR in the T7 to quickly take back the lead for DAL. SBL tries to sneak some batters faced for Familia in the T9 and pay the price as Robles has a rbi-3b and Pollock hits a 2-run HR to seal the win for DAL.

DAL 6, SBL 2

Game #3: DAL Laureano hits a solo-HR in the B1 to start the scoring. SBL Muncy strikes back with a 2-run HR in the B1. DAL C.Gonzalez rbi-1b ties it in the T2. In the DAL T3 Smoak’s rbi-1b gives DAL the 3-2 lead and knocks Foltynewicz out of the game. In the T4 after Robles and Castro 1b, Laureano’s rbi-1b makes it 4-2 DAL. In the B5 things turn around for the SBL when Martin 1bs and Altuve’s 2-run HR ties the game followed 1 out later by a Muncy solo-HR. Escobar then 1bs sending DAL Plesac to the showers as B,Miller brings in an itchy Peters. SBL Canha and Owings 1b to load the bases and Mayfield breaks the game open with a Grand Slam! The SBL adds a couple more runs and DAL closes the scoring with a Smoak solo-HR in the T9.

SBL 11, DAL 5

Game #4: The pitching match-up of the series as DAL Giolito faces SBL Samardzija. SBL draws first blood with a Meadows solo-HR in the B1. Samardzija is perfect through 6 innings but Robles spoils the no-no and the perfect game in the T7 with an infield 1b. Samardzija is not fazed getting Castro to hit into the 463 DP. But DAL Pollock shocks the home crowd with a solo-HR to tie the game 1-1. Samardzija under tight pitch count control gives way to Walden who gets Abreu 43 to end the inning. In the DAL T8 Smoak 2bs, Dozier 1bs and Rojas follows with a rbi-2b, but Dozier is nailed at the plate by Owings and Walden would wriggle out of the inning without further damage. In the SBL B8 DAL C.Martin takes the hill and gives up the rare back-to-back-to-back solo-HRs to Escobar, Meadows, and Muncy to give the SBL a 4-2 lead. Osuna would come on and give up 1 out 1bs to Castro and Pollock, but get Abreu to hit into a game-ending 543 DP for his 36th save.

SBL 4, DAL 2

Game #5: This game is all DAL P.Corbin as he gets his 19th win as he goes 7IP, giving up 0 runs, only 3 hits while fanning 13. DAL got all the runs they would need in the T1 as Abreu hits a 2-run HR to atone for his previous game ending DP. Laureano adds a rbi-1b in the T3 and a 2-run HR in the T7 for some of the other DAL runs. The lone bright spot for SBL is a Forsythe solo-HR in the B8 to spoil the shutout.

DAL 7, SBL 1

Game #6: DAL is out quick in the T1 when Robles 1bs, steals 2nd, and scores on an Abreu rbi-1b. In the B3 SBL ties the game on an Altuve rbi-1b. DAL retakes the lead in the T4 on an Abreu solo-HR followed an out later by a Dozier solo-HR. In the B4 Muncy 2B’s, and Escobar 1bs but Muncy is pegged at the plate by Robles and it feels like that could’ve been a pivotal moment. It was, but in the other direction as Canha 1bs, Owings has an inf-1b to load the bases, DAL Anderson loses the strike zone, walking Martin and Cave to force in 2 runs. Altuve then busts the game open with a 3-run 3b. DAL doesn’t go away getting a rbi-3b by Castro in the T5 and a Rojas rbi-1b in the T6 to cut the lead to 6-5 SBL. But he Lynx is not to be denied as they add 2 more in the B7 on an Altuve rbi-1b and Forsythe RBI-2b. The game would go into the T9 8-5 SBL and once again Osuna would make things interesting giving up a 1 out Castro 1b and a Harrison 2b before getting Abreu to F7. Osuna then walked Smoak but fans Dozier to end the game for save #37.

SBL 8, DAL 5

Series Summary: Southbend takes the series 4-2 over Dallas. The series impacted Dallas run at the best record in the AL and Southbend’s dwindling chance to win the AL West. Southbend loses another game to Hollywood and Dallas falls a little further back from Hollywood for the best record in the AL.
