Series Summary:	Patriots take the first three then drop the last four as they forgot how to pitch and hit.

Portland Lumber Jax @ Bethesda Bandicoots
Series Preview:	A 7-game set with the Portland Lumber Jax traveling way way way east to take on the Bethesda Bandicoots for seven in the second series of the season. The series featured the unexpected appearance of two special guests – pain and suffering.
Game #1:	Michael Conforto’s bases-clearing double spoiled a game that would have otherwise been the perfect cure for insomnia as the Lumber Jax took the opener 4-1. Conforto and Jose Martinez led the Portland offense with two hits apiece as the Lumber Jax were double-happy hitting seven two-baggers in the contest. Zach Eflin was great improving to 1-1 with a five-hit complete game. Matt Adams had two hits for Bethesda and Sonny Gray (1-1) got tagged with the loss – thank you oh anemic offense.
Game #2:	Hyun-Jin Ryu moved to 2-0 on the year with a four-hit shutout as Bethesda evened the series with a 2-0 win. Not much else to say about this sleepy game other than German Marquez dropped to 0-2 after allowing both Bethesda runs – only one earned – over seven innings. Ho-hum.
Game #3:	Another ho-hum game that became exciting in the late going when the Jax ripped the Bethesda bullpen a new one turning a 2-1 deficit to a 5-2 win for Portland thanks to three home runs in the 8th. Tyler Clippard was simply awesome as he faced two batters in the 8th and gave up homers to CJ Cron (1) and Michael Conforto (1). Just for the heck of it, Steve Cishek gave up a two-run homer to Austin Barnes (2). Aledmys Diaz (1) homered for Bethesda to give them a 2-1 lead earlier in the game. The two teams combined for 10 hits. Tyler Mahle went the distance – and why the hell not – limiting the Bandicoots to one earned run on just four sorry ass hits. Yes, bitterness starting to leak in … A bit of a costly win for Portland as outfielder rookie Christin Stewart was plonked in the head by Bethesda starter Trent Thornton and knocked out of action for 23 days. Carter Kieboom did his part for Bethesda for getting tossed for arguing on a pickoff attempt at 2nd base.
Game #4:	The excitement continues as Lorenzo Cain singled in the bottom of the 10th to lift Bethesda to a 3-2 win. The Lumber Jax actually outhit Bethesda 8-5 in this – yawn – thriller, but two of the Bethesda hits left the park – Anthony Rendon (5) and Cain (2). Cain and Rendon each had two hits for Bethesda with Austin Barnes snagging three for Portland. As a special treat, Jeff McNeil and David Peralta clunked heads chasing a blooper into shallow right and they both went on the mini-DL with injuries of 5 and 10 days respectively. Argggghhhhhh … kill me now.
Game #5:	Stephen Vogt capitalized on the near bored to death pitchers and homered in the bottom of the 11th to give Bethesda a walk-off 1-0 win. Can it get any more boring? The teams combined for 12 hits with six apiece. Vogt’s homer was #2 on the year. Steve Duggar and Michael Conforto each had two hits for Portland.
Game #6:	Oh the agony. Sixteen whole innings of this crap with Portland outlasting Bethesda 3-2 as they capitalized on last man standing in the bullpen Wei-Chen Wang running out of gas in his 4th inning of relief. Francisco Cervelli gets the credit for ending this nightmare with an RBI double off Wang in the 16th. No one wanted to win this one. CJ Cron (2) homered in the 2nd inning to give the Jax an early 2-0 lead. Cron, to his credit, was one of the few guys that played well in this series. Robinson Chirinos gets the golden sombrero for Bethesda with four Ks over a bunch of pitchers but I guess since it was not over 9 innings but 16 that it is more of a golden fedora. Anthony Rendon (6) homered and doubled and drove in both Bethesda runs. “I’m surrounded by idiots”, he was heard to say after the game.
Game #7:	Yet another brilliant pitching performance by Hyun-Jin Ryu tossing seven more shutout innings as Bethesda took this one fairly easily 6-0 to end the horror. Ryu (3-0) gave up four hits and struck out seven to continue his brilliance on the mound. Anthony Rendon – who else – homered for the 7th time this season in 13 games as did Brad Miller (3). German Marquez allowed five runs over 6-1/3 innings to drop to 0-3 on the year.
Series Summary:	Oh … my … gawd … A very very painful series with really nothing standing out except CJ Cron, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Anthony Rendon standing out.

Motor City Muscle @ Hollywood Werewolves
Series Summary:	Hollywood wins 5 of 6. Kershaw is injured and should be placed on the 10 day DL.

Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Pittsburgh Lumber Company
Series Summary:	Pittsburgh takes 4 of 6 from Long Beach by scores of 8-3, 6-5, 7-1 (L), 4-0, 8-7 (L), and 2-1.

Sacramento Capitals @ Columbus Explorers
Series Preview:	Columbus hosts Sacramento before hitting the road going to Tempe. Let’s stay focused because the Capitals are one tough team!!
Game #1:	Columbus wasn’t nice to Chris Sale in the opener – he goes 3.2 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 homers, 2 walks, 2 HBP and 5 runs. Charlie Blackmon gets 3 hits, a homer (2) and 2 RBIs. Tyler Flowers contributes 2 RBIs and D.J. LaMahieu (2) and Paul DeJong (2) are the other long bomb Explorers. Francisco Lindor clubbed his 3rd homer of the young season driving in 2 in the 5th to make it 5-2 Columbus, but that was all they could get against Julio Teheran and company. SAC 2-3-0 LP Sale (1-1) COL 6-7-1 WP Teheran (2-0) (with a 5.73 ERA)
Game #2:	In the Tyler Skaggs season, he tosses a 4 hit CG shutout fanning 9 and walking 2. Tough loss for Jordan Lyles who gives up 5 hits and 2 runs, but with no support, his effort went for naught. Trey Mancini (2 hits, run) and Josh Reddick (3 hits, rbi) were most of the teams 6 hits. But Sandy Leon drove one over the fence in the 4th (his 1st of the year) and that was enough insurance to last the game. SAC 2-6-1 WP Skaggs (1-0) COL 0-4-0 LP Lyles (0-1)
Game #3:	Last game before a day of rest and the Explorers were keyed up early and often. 13 hits for Columbus and they net 3 runs in the 1st and 3rd. Brock Holt gets 3 hits, 3 RBIs and a homer (1). D.J. LaMahieu also has 3 hits, 2 runs, and a rbi, and Charlie Blackmon drives in 2 on 2 hits. However, the big man was starter Dario Agrazal who went 8 innings, 3 hits, and unearned run (in the 5th so he didn’t lose the upgrades!!). He fans 8 for his 1st win as an Explorer. Nothing much happened on the Capitals side in this game. SAC 1- 5-0 LP McHugh (1-1) COL 7-13-1 WP Agrazal (1-1)
Game #4:	The day off did wonders for the Capitals – they bang out 10 hits, and 4 homers led by Trey Mancini and his 2 (3, 4). He also had a single and drove in 3 runs. Josh Reddick homers (3) for 2 runs, Starlin Castro drives one out (3) and Zack Greinke manages 2 hits including a double, 2 runs and a rbi. And he gets Castro to make an error in the 5th so the 2 Columbus runs are unearned and Grienke is yet to give up an earned run in his 3 starts this season. When those 2 runs scored it was 4-2 Sacramento. But then the Matt Shoemaker bullpen experiment kicked in, again and again, it was awful – 2 more runs in 1 IP and a lofty 7.94 era for a 23-grade pitcher. It wasn’t like Homer Bailey was doing any good, but then Ken Ryan comes in after Shoemaker and gives up 2 hits in his 1 inning and both of them were homers! SAC 9-10-1WP Greinke (3-0) COL 2- 4-0 LP Bailey (1-1)
Game #5:	Now we start extended baseball as Liam Hendricks earns the 1st of 2 consecutive blown saves and we go into extra innings. Max Scherzer starts and is strong over 7 innings, 3 hits, but they happened in one inning, the 5th and Paul DeJong (double) and Eric Haase (rbi single) plate 2 runs. That was 1 of 2 hits for Haase. Starlin Castro had homered (4) for the Sacramento in the 2nd off J.A. Happ and it was 2-1 after 5. Happ pitched very well, 7ip, 5, hits, 1 run and deserved a win, except that in the 9th as Hendricks was working to nail down the 2 innings save, Wilmer Flores had other plans that included a solo homer (1) to tie it up. So we go into extra innings. Several in fact – all knotted going into the bottom of the 14th, and with 1 out Matt Carpenter hits one that goes right between Flores legs at 1st (shade of Bill Buckner). Carpenter then steals 2nd and that was it for Taylor Guilbeau. Robinson Jr. brings in Colin McHugh – the 4th reliever for the Caps. Well, he strikes of D.J. LaMahieu but Charlie Blackmon greets him with a walk-off 2 run opposite-field homer (3) and a 4-2 Columbus win. SAC 2-8-1 LP Guilbeau (1-1) 14 innings CAL 4-7-0 WP Tony Watson (1-0) BS Hendricks (1)
Game #6:	Well, that was low run excitement, let’s have a barn burner and free baseball combined. Chris Sale and Julio Teheran match up again for the series finale and Columbus gets 1 in the 1st on a D.J. LaMahieu homer (3). Top 3 and Sandy Leon reaches 1st on a Teheran error (couldn’t catch the easy toss). Francisco Lindor walks. Josh Reddick walks to load them up – Teheran is not helping himself at all!! Corey Dickerson then singles and 2 runs scored and the Capitals are winning 2-1 after 3. But in the 4th, surprise man Eric Haase hits a 2 run homer (2) and the Explorers regain the lead, 3-2. But in the 5th Sale leads off with a triple!! (Not bad for a guy who didn’t have a plate appearance in MLB). It didn’t matter where he ended up after his hit (and he did get the option of stopping at 2nd). Because next batter, Francisco Lindor smashes a 2 run homer (4) and Sacramento gets 2 more runs to retake the lead 4-3. 6th inning, and if you’ve been following the pattern you might expect Columbus to score 2 runs and retake the lead. Well, OK, that’s what happened. Asdrubal Cabrera leads off with a single and Sale then hits Paul DeJong (2 HBP by Sale and he’s tossed). Oliver Perez in to pitch and Brock Holt gaps one to right-center scoring 1 and sending DeJong to 3rd. Haase then whiffs. Richie Martin into PH for Teheran and he whiffs and Perez is pumped, boy is he pumped. Dee Gordon steps up again Pumper Perez and Perez fires the pitch all the way to the backstop scoring DeJong. So Columbus gets 2 and leads 5-4. OK – we go to the 7th, it’s Sacramento time, but they choose to change the script a bit. An, of course, Columbus calls on Matt Shoemaker, and well, let’s just say we have to come up with something better. Wilmer Flores leads off with a single. Lindor reaches on FC. Josh Reddick singles him to 3rd and Delino Deshields comes into PR. Shoemaker then fans Corey Dickerson and he’s pumped! Pumped up so much he throws a meatball to Trey Mancini who crushes it over the left-center wall for a 3 run homer (5) and Sacramento grabs the lead by 2 runs, 7-5 – note the pattern change it will be important. Bottom of the 8th – this is a Columbus scoring inning, should be 2 runs. Oliver Drake comes in, he’s given up nothing so far this year in 8 appearances. He gives up a 1 out walk to Brock Holt. Haase then reaches on the FC and Matt Carpenter comes into PH. I’m sitting here getting ready to hit and say Matt will hit a game-tying homer – AND HE DOES!!! (2). So Columbus gets there schedule 2 runs – but because of the slight Sacramento glitch in the 7th, the game is now tied at 7-7. Liam Hendricks comes in for the 9th and with no save on the line, he doesn’t blow it or anything. He does rack up 5ks in 3 innings but the Capitals bullpen keeps Columbus scoreless as well. We actually have no runs scored in the 9th, 10th and 11th as we fast forward to the 12th due to time-space allocation. Kyle Ryan comes in for Columbus and only gives up a 1 walk and no homers and no runs!! Nick Goody is in for Sacramento (came on to get the final ut in the 11th). DeJong opens with a walk. Brock Holt then singles him to 3rd. Infield in and the Explorers’ secret weapon, Eric Haase comes to bat – K! So much for this version of secret weapon. Matt Carpenter up (stayed in after his PH stint) – he bops one into RF for a walk-off single and Columbus wins 8-7. For 12 innings and 15 runs, there were only a combined 19 hits but Columbus did draw NINE (9) walks and 2 HBP and Sacramento received 6 charity passes. There were as many walks (15) in the game as runs. SAC 7-10-0 LP Goody (0-1) BS Perez (1), Drake (1) COL 8- 9-1 WP Ryan (2-0) BS Shoemaker (2) and his era is now 10.80
Series Summary:	Series goes to Columbus 4-2 with the final two games going into extra innings. 2 weeks into the season and Columbus has played 4 extra inning games and burned up lots of IP! The 4 games that weren’t OT, were pretty much one side, so the series was practically a wash and the rematch will most likely be similar (maybe). On to Tempe, Sacramento heads home to host Jersey.

Fremont Cannons @ Dallas Cougars
Series Preview:	Early season matchup of AL East division rivals. The Cannons come in hot winning their first 6 games of the season while the Cougars come in at 5 and 2.
Game #1:	Dallas Spot starter Brian Flynn went three innings then Edwin Diaz came in to throw batting practice as Fremont would torch him for 12 hits and 6 home runs. Three Cannon hitters had 2 homer games: Javier Baez, Mike Yastrzemski, and Teoscar Hernandez. Fremont 14, Dallas 2
Game #2:	This time 3 Dallas hitters hit homers and Chase Anderson and two relievers held the Cannons to just 4 hits. Fremont’s season-opening 7 game winning streak comes to an end. Dallas 7, Fremont 1
Game #3:	Former Cougar, Daniel Norris struck 9 in his first complete game of the year while Logan Allen tired in the 8th after allowing 2 runs through 7 innings. Although it was a fairly good pitching battle for 7 innings both teams still had double-digit hit totals – 10 for Dallas and 15 for Fremont. Fremont 8, Dallas 2Dallas Keuchel made his first start of the year for the Cougars allowing only 3 hits through 7 innings striking out 8 while Jose Abreu went 2 for 4 and Nick Hundley had 3 hits to lead the offense. Game #5:	Hunter Dozier caps off a three-run 4th hitting a 2 run homer to put Dallas in front for good and the Cougars win for the 2nd straight game. Dallas 3, Fremont 2
Game #6:	The Cougars scored 4 times in the third to overcome a 3-0 Cannons advantage and again hold on for the win. For the 2nd game in a row, a Fremont starting pitcher pitches a complete game in a losing effort. Dallas 4, Fremont 3
Game #7:	This time Dallas struck first scoring 4 times in the first as Chase Anderson improves to 3-0. Dallas 5, Fremont 2
Series Summary:	Dallas wins the final 4 games and 5 games overall of the series to overtake Fremont for first place in the AL East, but don’t be surprised if these two teams leapfrog each other all season long for a division crown.

Selkirk Steelers @ Corktown Cycle
Series Preview:	Corktown’s Opening day/week did not go so well.
Series Summary:	A much improved Selkirk team beats Corktown 5-1 this week. Basically dominating the games won. They may not be competing for the playoffs this year, but they are on a nice path in a tough division.

Jersey Nor’easters @ Valdosta Snappers
Game #1:	Valdosta 4-3. The Bombers get a pair of unearned runs in the 8th off of Josh Hader and hang on for the win. Alex Colome picked up his 2nd save.
Game #2:	Valdosta 8-2. Future HOF’er Felix Hernandez pitched 7 solid innings to pick up his 1st win for the Bombers and # 231 of his career.
Game #3:	Jersey 5-3. Josh Hader picked up the save in a close game but the big news was Albert Pujols adding to his career HR record with his 650th (!). Nobody is going to catch him anytime in the near future.
Game #4:	Jersey 5-3 (10 Innings). The Nor’ Easters get a pair of unearned runs in the 10th and Josh Hader racks up his 3rd save of the year.
Game #5:	Valdosta 7-5. Bombers get a big 5 run outburst in the 6th and hang on with Alex Colome picking up his 3rd save.
Game #6:	Valdosta 1-5. Bombers smack 4 HR’s and win an easy one.
Series Summary:	Valdosta stays kinda hot and takes 4 of 6. I had better enjoy it while it lasts 🙂

Chicago Mobsters @ Coconut Creek Crushers
Series Preview:	Can CCC win one?
Game #1:	Yes, they can. Walker drives in 3 and Morejon throws 6-2/3 scoreless with 12 K’s. CCC wins 3-0.
Game #2:	Snell gets chased in the 2nd inning. Syndergaard throws a complete game shutout. CHI wins 9-0.
Game #3:	Stroman is strong in a 4-1 CHI win.
Game #4:	Bauer outduels Smith in a 3-0 CHI win. Bauer K’s 16.
Game #5:	CCC finally started hitting and the game was tied 4-4 after two innings. All CHI after that as they cruise to a 10-4 win.
Game #6:	Syndergaard and Musgrove duel it out and turn over the game to the bullpens. CCC coughs up a 2 run lead and the game goes extras. CCC manages to score in the 11th to win the game 5-4.
Series Summary:	CCC wins the bookends but CHI wins the 4 middle games.

Mesa Solar Sox @ Virginia Sluggers
Series Preview:	Virginia opens at home after being thrashed by Fremont 6 games to zilch. Mesa comes in riding a 6 win-1 loss season opener against Coconut Creek.
Game #1:	VIR 11-1 W Ryan Borucki (1-0) L-Pablo Lopez (0-2) Virginia quickly took control of the game by scoring 9 runs in the 3rd inning to jump out 10-0 and coast to their first win of the season. A 2-run homer from Bryan Reynolds and a solo shot from Carlos Santana highlighted an inning that saw the Slugger bats come alive. Staked to a huge lead, Borucki took control of the game and spun a 4 hit CG for his first win of the year.
Game #2:	VIR 6-5 W-Adam Plutko (1-1) L-Anthony Kay (1-1) Once again, Virginia goes out to a quick lead. RBI hits from Brian Anderson and George Springer put VIR up 2-0 after 1. When Mesa came back with 2 of their own to tie it, Rafael Devers ripped a 3-run blast to put VIR back up and they added another run in the 4th for a 6-2 lead. AN error by the Sluggers along with a Jason Kipnis 2-run wall ball brought the Solar Sox within 1 run at 6-5. But Plutko held on and Hansel Robles threw a 1-2-3 9th to get his first save of the season.
Game #3:	VIR 11-5 W-Luis Castillo (1-0) L-Aaron Sanchez (0-1) And it continues. Slugger bats are on fire. 16 hits, 7 doubles, a triple, and 3 homers! Anthony Rizzo leads the way with 2 hits and 4 RBI. George Springer pitches in with 3 hits and 2 RBI’s. Jesus Aguilar and Adalberto Mondesi went deep for Mesa.
Game #4:	Mesa !!-8 W-James Paxton (2-0) L-Chris Archer (0-2) Lead by Eugenio Suarez and Eddie Rosario, Mesa finally found their bats and used them to pound out 16 hits to tally 11 runs as they pulled out their first win against the Sluggers. Eugenio Suarez totaled 4 hits in his 5 at-bats and lofted 3 of those hits over the wall for 4 RBI’s. Eddie Rosario added 4 hits of his own and also planted one in the lowers deck as he too tallied 4 RBI’s. James Paxton remained undefeated even though giving up 7 runs as he managed to get out of trouble while striking out 11 batters in 7,1 innings.
Game #5:	VIR 7-4 W-Hansel Robles (1-1) L-Hector Rondon (0-1) Light hitting Jason Castro muscled up and carried VIR to a come from behind victory as they took a 4-1 series lead. Ahead 3-1 after 7, Mesa saw the Sluggers take a 4-3 lead when Jason Castro deposited a fastball over the wall for a 3-run jimmy jack. However, Eugenio Suarez tied it up in the top of the 9th when he sat on a hanging curve and launched his 8th homer of the year, And that brought Mr. Castro on stage once again. He did not disappoint as he laid into a pitch and buried it into the upper seats for a 3-run blast that gave VIR the win.
Game #6:	VIR 10-9 W-Luis Garcia (1-0) L-Scott Barlow (0-1) A strange game. VIR wins but gets out-hit 19-9. MESA explodes for 7 first-inning runs on the strength of Adalberto Mondesi’s 3-run homer. It looks good for a moment, but VIR gets a 3-run homer from Rafael Devers in the first and a 2-run double from George Springer and a 2-run home run from Carlos Santana in the 3rd. With the 2 runs Mesa added in the 2nd and 3rd they still led, but now by only 2 runs at 9-7. Unfortunately for Mesa, the Slugger bullpen kept the Solar Sox at bay and VIR was able to scratch out single runs in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings and the VIR bullpen held on to preserve the win.
Game #7:	MESA 4-3 W-Pablo Lopez (1-2) L-Adam Plutko (1-2) In another close one, Mesa pulled out the win with 4 runs in the 7th inning. Things appeared to be going well for VIR as they held a 2-0 lead going into the 7th. Adam Plutko looked strong and another VIR win looked imminent. But fate had other plans. In the 7th, Nomar Mazara doubled in a run, the aging Todd Frazier doubled in 2 more and Adalberto Mondesi sliced a single that scored Frazier for a 4-2 Mesa lead. After Chen gave up a run to let VIR get within a run, Ryan Pressly came in to nail down the save for his 2nd of the season.
Series Summary:	Big turn-a-round for Virginia as they come away with a 5-2 home series win. Series Preview:	Southbend visits YSS. Both teams began the season strong. Only one squad would continue the winning ways.
Game #1:	YSS went with an “opener” to start the series. Cam Bedrosian worked his way through the first 2 innings without harm. Brett Martin allowed a lone run in his 3 innings. After 5 innings, YSS was in control 8-1. The YSS pen just couldn’t hold up. Joe Kelly, Will Smith, and Robert Stephenson proceded to shart themselves. Austin Meadows hit a pair of homers (6). Eduardo Escobar (3) and Jose Altuve (1) added bombs themselves. It didn’t even require extra innings. the Lynx tallied 3 in the top of the ninth and Osuna made it stick. SBL 9 – YSS 8
Game #2:	5 runs in the first started SBL on the right foot. Altuve (2) and Escobar (4) HR’d for the second game in a row to support Jordan Yamamoto. Yonge Street tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to make it look closer than it was. SBL 12 – YSS 6
Game #3:	Yonny Chirinos performed the role of Ace and tossed 7 scoreless innings. Will Smith allowed a 9th inning HR to Altuve (3). He’s hit one in each of the first 3 games of the series. YSS 5 – SBL 1
Game #4:	Altuve (4) and Escobar (5) continued their torrid, homer-hitting ways behind a nice outing from Samardzija. SBL 6 – YSS 1
Game #5:	Foltynewicz beat Gerritt Cole. Escobar (6) hit another HR for the Lynx. SBL 5 – YSS 2
Game #6:	Meadows hit his 7th and Altuve continued burning up with his 5th HR of the series (and season). SBL 7 – YSS 3
Game #7:	A scoreless game until YSS tallied to close the 7th inning. SBL manufactured 4 runs over the final 2 innings to offset YSS’ 9th inning tally. Meadows and Altuve each drove home a pair of runs, but neither homered for a change of pace. SBL 4 – YSS 2
Series Summary:	Altuve, Escobar, and Meadows were a murderers row. I’m too shell-shocked to recap the numbers. I’d assume you’ll hear one (or all) of those names when Player of the Week is discussed. SBL continues their roadie to DAL, while YSS licks its wounds and hosts CHI. Good Times.
