Corktown  Cycle @ Triple Creek  Patriots

Series Preview: Corktown (26-38) coast into Triple Creek (27-37) for a robust 7 game stretch.
Game #1: Bellinger and Piscotty deliver 2-run homers to power the Patriots to an opening series win. Hosmer homered in the losing effort. Both starters pitched well and while Corktown picked up more hits they left too many on base.

CC 3 TCP 5

W – Gausman (4-3)
L – DeSclanfani (2-7)
S – Jennings (1)

Game #2: Patriots score early and Corktown nearly caught them in the 7th until Bellinger deposits a 3-run job in the bottom half. Benintendi and Bellinger power the home offense this time and Kemp had a nice 3-4 2 doubles day. Pitching was just who could limit the damage as 21 hits were pounded out.

CC 4 TCP 8

W – Newcomb (4-3)
L – Pena (2-5)
S – None

Game #3: Bieber pitches 7 innings of shutout ball as the offense was opportunistic leaving just 5 on base. Kemp delivered another nice game, 3-5 w/ a double, but the Cycle strand 12.

CC 0 TCP 4

W – Bieber (4-2)
L – Johnson (0-7)
S – None

Game #4: Corktown drubs Alex Wood for 7 runs over 2 innings as the game had a lopsided start. After 6 full the score stood 7-3. Lopez struggled to start the 7th and Morgan came on in relief, but it wasn’t really relief as he allowed a double and homer in the 4 batters he faced. Bellinger again with the damage, a 3-run blast, and a Benintendi double capped a 4 run 7th and were tied 7-7 after 7. Knebel allowed a solo shot to Curtis “HUH!?!” Joseph in the 8th that ends up being the game winner. The Cycle can’t seem to catch a break.

CC 7 TCP 8

W – Jennings (2-3)
L – Knebel (2-1)
S – Soria (9)

Game #5: Jacob Nix channels Cy Young and tosses a 5-hit shutout. Berrios was rock solid allowing just 1 run over 7 (solo shot to Bellinger) but Morgan stumbled badly again in the 8th allowing 3 runs.

CC 0 TCP 4

W – Nix (2-3)
L – Berrios (5-3)
S – None

Game #6: This is game 4 all over again. Cycle score 4 in the first two innings and add 2 more in the 5th, leading 6-0 after 5 full. Step into the Way Back Machine to game 4 and watch the horror unfold yet again as Triple Creek scores 3 in the 6th and then 4 in the 7th to take the lead 7-6. Knebel was the victim today allowing Triple Creek a key double and homer. The Patriot bullpen tossed doughnuts the final 3 innings. Things continue to go the Patriots way.

CC 6 TCP 7

W – Holland (2-1)
L – Knebel (2-2)
S – Soria (10)

Game #7: Kelby Tomlinson delivers a huge 3-run double with the bases loaded in the 1st to get things rolling early for Triple Creek. The Cycle would score single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 9th but it wasn’t enough today.

CC 3 TCP 5

W – Newcomb (5-3)
L – DeSclafani (2-8)
S – Jimenez (2)

Series Summary: The Patriots let all the air of the Cycles tires and take all 7. When the luck pendulum swings back against the Patriots, they are expecting some serious sting.

Rosemere  Renegades @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview: The Rosemere Renegades (21-44) plunk themselves down at the naval training centre in Bethesda and then get some rickshaw rides over to the ballpark for a six-pack against the Bandicoots (32-32).
Game #1: Robinson Chirinos homered twice for Bethesda including a grand slam in the 6th inning to propel the Bandicoots to a 6-0 win in the opener.
Anthony Rendon had three hits as well for Bethesda and picked up the other RBI and other than that it was a whole lot of nothing with Jake Arrieta scattering four singles over seven innings to earn the win.
Game #2: Gerardo Parra went snaky at the plate, driving in three runs on four hits as the Renegades evened the series with a 7-5 win over Bethesda.
Scott Kingery (3) and Chad Pinder (6) homered for the winners with both also adding singles for a multi-hit performance. Trevor Story (25), Jonathan Schoop (5) and Chris Owings (2) wasted long balls for Bethesda.
Fernando Romero (5-6) was mediocre over 6.1 innings allowing four runs on six hits and three walks, but he was good enough to keep the Bandicoots at bay and pitched himself out of a couple of early jams.
Xavier Cedeno picked up his 8th save of the season with a 3-up, 3-down ninth.
Game #3: Rosemere’s Chad Kuhl and Bethesda’s Tyson Ross saw their teams each allow two homers, but that is where the similarity ended as Kuhl was absolutely un-Kuhl (i.e., pitched like a burning dumpster) while Ross struck out 13 over 7.2 innings in an easy 9-2 Betehsda win.
Ross actually fanned the first seven hitters he faced before slowing down and allowing homers to David Dahl (7) in the 4th and Scott Kingery (4) in the 8th.
Kuhl only gave up one homer – Jonathan Schoop’s 6th – but gave up 8 runs (six earned) over 2.2 innings of nine-hit ball.
Lorenzo Cain (4) also homered for Bethesda and had three hits with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Game #4: Robinson Chirinos had his second two-homer game of the series and drove in four runs as the Bandicoots coasted to an 8-1 win over Rosemere.
Pinch hitter Sam Travis accounted for the only Rosemere run when his hard grounder skipped past Aledmys Diaz in the 7th inning which allowed Alfredo Gonzalez to score easily from 3rd base.
Starting pitcher John Gant (3-0) gave up just a run on five hits over seven innings, but erased that run with his 2nd homer of the season which came off Rosemere starter Jerad Eickhoff in the 6th inning.
A costly win for Bethesda though as Nick Martini had to be carried off the field in a rickshaw after slamming into the outfield wall in the 5th inning. It is OK though as he caught and hung onto the ball. Martini was later lobotomized and is expected to miss 39 days which is OK as well as we didn’t get him for his mind.
Game #5: Bethesda scrambles back from the 4-0 lead to tie it in the 6th and Jeff McNeil’s pinch hit single drove in Jon Jay with what proved to be the winner in the 8th as the Bandicoots edged Rosemere 5-4.
Drew Smith (0-3) got tagged with the hardluck loss after allowing the one unearned run as Jon Jay had reached on a misplayed grounder by Scott Kingery that smacked off his foot and into the outfield.
David Dahl (8) homered again for Rosemere and singled and drove in three runs.
Game #6: Rosemere enjoyed not its finest day on the mound as Nate Eovaldi, Phil Maton and Nestor Cortes were all beaten around in the game as Bethesda coasted to a 12-2 win.
Chad Pinder and Breyvic Valera each had two hits in a losing effort for the Renegades while for Bethesda Anthony Rendon (4/5 three runs, double, three RBIs) and Trevor Story (3/4 four runs, home run #26, four RBIs) led the charge.
Series Summary: Bethesda takes five of six from Rosemere but suffers a costly and ghastly injury to Nick Martini in the process.

Game #2: Winker grand slam not enough for selkirk who lose 10-6 to Clevenger and the Lumber company.

Sacramento  Capitals @ Valdosta  Snappers

Series Preview: Sacramento makes the long trip east to Valdosta to take on the Snappers.
Series Summary: Not surprisingly, the Snappers rolled over and dropped 5 of 6 to the 1st place Caps.

Tijuana  Bottle Rockets @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Preview: AL Central last place Tijuana comes to Virginia to face the AL West next to last place Sluggers.
Game #1: VIR 4-2 W=Chris Archer (5-4) L- Jaime Garcia (5-6) SV-Felipe Vazquez (10)

Tijuana’s J.Garcia ran into trouble quickly. After getting Carlos Santana to bounce out to lead off the bottom of the 2nd, Rafael Devers swatted a fastball to centerfield and watched it sail over he wall for a 1-0 Slugger lead. Then Garcia gave up a blooper to left followed by a RBI double to left that Jorge Bonifacio tried to score on. Chris Bostick made sure that didn’t happen with a strong throw that nailed Bonifacio at the plate. But with Jose Rondon at 2nd, Garcia loaded the bases by walking the next two batters,Dawel Lugo and Kevan Smith. Then he faced the light hitting Lewis Brinson, “hit down the line inside third…backhand stab … he spears it … long throw to first … and it gets by MAUER…two runs will score … going first to third is Kevan SMITH … and BRINSON will hold at first
BOTTLE ROCKETS 0, SLUGGERS 3″ Garcia was finally able to get the last two outs of the inning but did give up Carlos Santana’s 9th homer of the year in the 3rd inning. Chris Mullins finally put Tijuana on the board with a 2-run homer in the 9th, but Felipe Vazquez came in with his 0.48 ERA and nailed down the save for Virginia.

Game #2: VIR 9-0 W-Trevor Cahill (4-3) L-Homer Bailey (2-9)

Trevor Cahil brought his “A” game to the mound as he pitched a CG 3-hit shutout, baffling the Bottle Rockets all day. Tijuana’s Juan Centeno did manage 2 hits off Cahill in his 3 at bats. Meanwhile Virginia brought the lumber to the game as well. 13 hits for the Sluggers and 5 of them cleared the wall. Dawel Lugo, Lewis Brinson, George Springer, Nick Markakis and Brian Anderson all hit homers off Tijuana pitching with three of them coming in Virginia’s 7-run 7th inning that broke the game open and led to Virginia’s win.

Game #3: TIJ 3-2 W-Tanner Roark (4-7) L-Ryan Borucki (0-6) SV-Trey Wingenter (1)

Both starters pitched well through 7 innings. Both gave up 6 hits. Both struck out 7 batters. But Roark only gave up 1 run while Borucki gave up 3. That’s basically why Tijuana won, that and they made their hits count. In the 5th, Chris Mullins hit a RBI double off the wall in right-center that chased home Isiah Kiner-Falefa with the first run of the game. In the 6th, Joe Mauer and Kiner-Falefa ripped RBI doubles to increase the lead to 3-0. Down 3-1, Virginia tried to make a come-back in the 9th when Kevan Smith homered to make the score 3-2, but fell just short as Wingenter got his 1st save.

Game #4: TIJ 8-1 W-Josh Rogers (2-5) L-Trevor Williams (5-7)

Josh Rogers pitched 8 innings allowing only 6 hits to pick up his 2nd win of the season. The Bottle Rockets opened up the game in the 3rd. Rio Ruiz started it off with a RBI single and then Joe Mauer stepped into the box,,,”Lifted high to right … MARKAKIS is chasing back …he waits on it … but it’s over his head…good-bye … a three-run dinger for MAUER
BOTTLE ROCKETS 4, SLUGGERS 0″ Rogers continued to keep Virginia off the board as Virginia’s only run came off a Chris Bostick error. And then, to be safe, Tijuana put 4 more runs on the board in the 9th to win this game going away.

Game #5: VIR 4-2 W-Heath Fillmyer (2-0) L-Jaimie Garcia (5-7) SV-Felipe Vazquez (11)

Heath Fillmyer’s quality start allowed him to hand off to the bullpen and get Felipe Vazquez to record his 11th save of the year. Tijuana was able to score twice on RBI’s from Joe Mauer, but 2-RBI doubles by George Springer and Nick Markakis in the 1st and 3rd was cushion enough for the Sluggers to pull out the win.

Game #6: VIR 8-6 W-Luis Perdomo (7-4) L-Brett Kennedy (3-7) SV-Felipe Vazquez (12)

Down 4-2 in the 5th after Tijuana’s Dan Vogelbach rocked a 2-run homer to break a 2-2 tie, Virginia came roaring back. First George Springer roped a 2-run homer and then Jose Rondon cranked his own 2-run shot. And just like that Virginia led 6-4. But the heartbreak for Tijuana came in the bottom of the6th when Virginia scored 2 runs on a bases loaded walk and a dropped throw at the plate. Tijuana would get 2 more runs in the 7th on a Joe Mauer RBI single and a FC, but their scoring would end there as Vazquez slammed the door once again.

Series Summary: Virginia pulled out the series 4-2
Tijuana will go home to face the Dallas Cougars while Virginia stays home to welcome the pitching rich Motor City Musclemen.
