Long Beach Dirt Bags @ Triple Creek Patriots |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Titans visit the Patriots for 6 games in a division that’s already been decided. |
Game #1: | Gausman turns in one of hit best outings of the season and the Patriot offense collect 4 extra base knocks to take game 1. Robertson (3-4 with a homer) and Bellinger (2-4 w/ homer) lead the attack.
LBD 1 TCP 4 W – Gausman (3) |
Game #2: | Tomlinson’s 2-out error in the 14 and bullpen depth made the difference here as this contest took 14 innings. Titans racked up 3 errors of their own, and teams combined to strand 28 baserunners, but in the end the Titans take it. Wendel had a nice 4-7 day.
LBT 4 TCP 2 W – Goeddel (1) |
Game #3: | Tyler Anderson could only make it through 1 inning before leaving with a sore wrist. Called upon with short notice, Brault was mugged and Woodruff kicked him while he was down. Down 6-3 heading into the 9th, Triple Creek sends Holland to the hill and it was ugly; three hits and 2 walks later the game is tied. Holland is spared the L as the home squad scores a walk-off win. Anderson will only miss 5 days but Triple Creek loses Gurriel for 14 days and Orf for 1.
LBT 6 TCP 7 W – Holland (1) |
Game #4: | After a day off, the rejuvenated Patriots shut out the Titans. Bellinger goes deep once again, this time for 2 runs, and Seager drives in one. Strahm was dealing and started the day as a 23.
LBT 0 TCP 3 W – Strahm (2) |
Game #5: | 4-3 heading to the top of 7 and the Titans woke from their slumber. And how. Long Beach tallies 5 each in the 7th and 8th to blow the game wide open. No Patriot arm could do a thing as they were all raked into the fire. Top 3 Titans went a combined 7-15 with 5 RBI and Encarnacion added a Baltimore special. Just plain ugly baseball for Triple Creek.
LBT 13 TCP 5 W – Brault (2) |
Game #6: | Alex Wood dominates over 8 innings allowing just 2 hits. Fiers had a great outing too but was foiled by Wood. A rare Curtis Joseph RBI is the games only run.
LBT 0 TCP 1 W – Wood (5) |
Series Summary: | Triple Creek takes 4 of 6 in a series with a bunch of close games. |
Southwest Detroit Fighting Chihuahuas @ Detroit Crime |

Coconut Creek Crushers @ Dallas Cougars |
|
---|---|
Series Summary: | Cougars and Crushers split. |
Fremont Cannons @ Virginia Sluggers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | Fremont and Virginia, two 4th place clubs looking up at the leaders. Fremont coming off a split with Southbend, Virginia a series loss to Mesa. |
Game #1: | FRE 8-7 W-Carlos Rondon (1-2) L-Chris Archer (4-3) SV-Sean Doolittle (3)
A Teoscar Hernandez RBI single in the 1st and a Khris Davis 2-run homer in the 3rd gave Fremont an early lead. When Clint Frazier’s single cut the lead to 3-1 in the 5th, it looked like momentum was shifting Virginia’s way. But Rondon got the next two batters to end the threat. Then Fremont erupted for 5 runs in the top of the 6th. Yoan Moncada started it with a longball and Teoscar Hernandez ripped a 2-run double to put Fremont up 8-1 and it looked like the game was over. But it wasn’t. Newly acquired Gregorio Petit lined a bases loaded single that drove in 2 runs in the 7th and Kevan Smith added a SF to narrow the core to 8-4. Virginia’s pen held the Cannons silent in the 8th and hoped for a miracle in the bottom half of the inning. Carlos Santana led off the bottom of the 8th by taking Koby Allard deep over the leftfield fence. Then Brian Anderson singled and Rafael Devers walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Sean Doolittle came in and got Clint Frazier to ground out and the runners moved up 90 feet. Then G.Petit hit a deep SF that scored B.Anderson and suddenly it’s 8-6 with a runner on 2nd with 2 outs. Doolittle walked around the mound. “DOOLITTLE kicks and delivers … hit like a shot … MONCADA waves on it, but it’s by him into right … DEVERS’s around third…they’re waving DEVERS in…and he scores.” Fremont 8 – Virginia 7. Doolittle muscles up and gets the next batter on 3 strikes and pumps his fist as he leaves the mound. Both teams put up goose eggs in the 9th and Fremont escaped with a hard fought 8-7 win. |
Game #2: | VIR 5-4 W-Luis Perdomo (5-3) L-Koby Allard (3-4) SV-Silvio Bracho (1)
Again Fremont jumped out early with a 2-1 lead going into the 4th. Then, with the bases loaded, Gregorio Petit drew a walk to tie the game at 2-all. Light hitting Jason Castro stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded ” lined hard over first…that’s good for extra bases … SANTANA scores … BONIFACIO’s right behind him…DAVIS’s after it … into the corner … PETIT scores … CASTRO’s going for three … the relay…safe! … three-run triple for CASTRO…CANNONS 2, SLUGGERS 5.” Fremont would add 2 more on a longball from Javier Baez, but it wouldn’t be enough as Virginia held on for the win. |
Game #3: | FRE 4-0 W-Sal Romano (5-4) L-Trevor Cahill (2-3)
When is a grade 4 starter better than a grade 11? When he throws a 3-hit CG shut-out. And that’s what Sal Romano did! Virginia could never get anything going as Romano baffled the Slugger batters. Khris Davis and Shohei Ohtani both went deep and Manuel Margot laced an RBI triple to support Romano’s effort. |
Game #4: | FRE 8-1 W-Daniel Norris (4-6) L-Ryan Borucki (0-4)
An easy win for the Cannons as Daniel Norris went 9 innings, scattering 6 hits and strikeing out 9. Fremont also out-hit Virginia 12-6. Yoan Moncada managed 3 hits in 4 at bats and Javier Baez blasted his 16th homer while picking up his 44th RBI. Teoscar Hernandez continued to spray hits and ripped his first 2 triples of the year with each one driving in a run. But it was Manuel Margot’s two doubles that accounted for 3 RBI’s that helped seal the win. |
Game #5: | VIR 8-4 W-Trevor Williams (5-5) L-Jason Vargas (2-8)
14 hits by the Gentlemen,…Rosell Herrera was the only Gentleman NOT to get a hit. And it was basically over after 2 innings. In the 1st and 2nd innings Virginia played longball and put up 6 runs. Carlos Santana blasted a 3-run shot in the 1st, Nick Markakis ripped a solo shot in the 2nd, and Anthony Rizzo sent a 2-run homer over the right field wall (also in the 2nd). Khris Davis upped his homerun total to 20 when he launched a solo shot to left in the top of the 3rd. |
Game #6: | FRE 5-4 W- Jordan Hicks (1-2) L-Felipe Vazquez (1-1) SV-Sean Doolittle (4)
Hot hitting Khris Davis hit a 2-run homer in the 1st, his 21st of the year, to put Fremont up 3-0. It would take Fremont 8 more innings before they scored again and by then they were on the wrong end of a 4-3 score. An RBI single, an Anthony Rizzo solo homer and a Rosell Herrera RBI single had tied the score before Rizzo lined a RBI line drive into right for a 4-3 Virginia lead in the 7th. In the 9th, Fremont came alive. With Khris Davis on 1st after a single, “M. KEPLER facing H. FILLMYER, T 9th, No Outs, Runner on 1st, Behind 3-4 |
Series Summary: | Fremont ekes out a 4-2 series win as Virginia made all of Fremont’s grade 4 and lower pitchers look like grade 20 aces. But,…when you don’t hit, you don’t hit, And you don’t score runs. That’s how you lose.
For the Fremont Cannons: Khris Davis was 9-21 (.429 AVG) with 9 runs, 7 RBI and 4 home runs. |

After MCM had a runner picked off (and ejected) for the 2nd out of the inning, Ian Kinsler reached on an error. Southbend Lynx @ Yonge Street Stalkers |
|
---|---|
Series Preview: | The Lynx head north. |
Game #1: | An exciting back and forth opener. The Lynx scored 1 in the 4th and were answered immediately with 1 by YSS in the bottom half. SBL tallied 3 more in the 5th inning, but YSS followed with 3 of their own in the 6th to tie the game 4-4. SBL scored a run in the 9th, but YSS matched it in their half to send us to extra frames. The home team took the lead for the first time with the winning run in the 11th. Max Muncy (2 HR, 4RBI) was the star for SBL. The Stalkers had 9 hits, 8 of them were of the extra base variety. Scooter Gennett smacked 2 solo shots and 6 other guys had doubles. There was 1 lone single mixed in there somewhere. YSS 6 – SBL 5 (11) |

Archie Bradley went 8.1 mostly effective innings of relief before his 39th batter faced ended the marathon. YSS 5 – SBL 4 (18) |
Game #3: | The Stalkers came out hot, touching Foltynewicz for 3 HRS and 8 runs by the end of the 3rd. YSS allowed the Lynx a bit of hope while attempting to get some lesser pitchers a few batters faced. In the end, the home team held on. YSS 10 – SBL 7 |
Game #4: | This one was all Gerrit Cole. He was awesome (8.1 IP, 1H, 1BB, 9K, 27BF) but left the game injured (5 days) with 1 out in the 9th. Cam Bedrosian K’d the final 2 hitters to finish the shutout. YSS 4 – SBL 0 |
Game #5: | Wake up the Lynx! Apparently all they needed was Dylan Covey on the mound for YSS to bust open in a big way. Jed Lowrie busted out the most, going 3-5 with 5 RBI to lead the way. SBL 10 – YSS 1 |
Game #6: | YSS rallied big time with 4 runs in the 8th and a run in the 9th to knot the game at 8-8 and send it to extra innings for the 3rd time in the series. Alas, SBL tallied a run in the 10th and the pen locked it down. SBL 9 – YSS 8 (10) |
