Series Preview:  Tijuana hosts Manhattan for a 6 game series
Series Summary:  Home team sweeps!!

Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas @ Virginia  Sluggers

Series Preview:  The Sluggers host the Fighting Chihuahuas of Southwest Detroit.
Series Summary:  The Fighting Chihuahuas win first one, then lose three in a row, but played the Sluggers tight in the final two.

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Columbus  Explorers

Series Preview:  Nor’easters blow into Columbus trying to get away from the all the Nor’easters that have plagued the East Coast lately. But they are coming to visit a team that is still working to dig out of the blizzard the desert bound Tempe Tempers covered them with in week 1. Who will prevail?
Game #1:  Well this game belongs to Eduardo Nunez who played this game at 2nd giving Gordon the day off and Jordan Lyles (and 5 relievers)! Nunez opened the game with a solo homer (2), then hit another one in the 7th (3) and added a 3rd hit just for good measure. Lyles goes 5 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, a Jose Ramirez double (1 of 2 he had in the game). 5 relievers come in beginning in the 6th and give up a walk and nothing else the rest of the way.
JNE 1-4-1 LP Mike Montgomery (1-1)
COL 4-9-1 WP Lyles (1-0) S DavidRobertson (4)
Game #2:  Dinelson Lamet (JNE) and Matt Shoemaker (COL) both pitched well, each giving up 2 runs innings, but neither factor in the decision. Jersey’s offense started a little late, down 2-0 through 5, but then they get 4 runs of the next 3 innings to take the lead. However, Josh Hader blows the 3-2 lead in the 7th and Brad Hand blows the 4-3 lead in the 9th (a Ryan Zimmerman homer [7]. Columbus then plates the winner in the 11th.
JNE 4- 9-1 LP Shaw (0-2) BS Hader (1), Hand (2)
COL 5-12-1 WP Chris Rusin (2-3)
Game #3:  This game saw Ervin Santana cruise for all but one batter in his 7.2 innings. He gives up a 7th inning homer to Jose Ramirez (8) for the only hit he allows. Curtis Granderson gets 2 of the 9 Columbus hits, 4 rbis and a homer (1) as Columbus gets its 3rd win of the series.
JNE 1-2-2 LP Vincent Velasquez (1-2)
COL 6-9-0 WP Santana (3-1)
Game #4:  After a day off, the Explorers come back again find a way to stymie the Nor’easters bats limiting them to 5 hits and 1 run, a 2-out 9th inning homer by Jay Bruce (5) which spoiled the shut-out bid by Josh Tomlin. Shin-Soo Choo was the big offensive contributor with 2 hits, 3 rbis and a homer (3). Jose Iglesias also had 3 hits.
JNE 1-5-1 LP Jake Junis (0-2)
COL 4-8-0 WP Tomlin (3-1)
Game #5:  There was a difficult pattern developing for the Nor’easters in this series. Control issues. Game 1 – 3 walks given up. Game 2 – 6 walks, Game 3, 4 walks, Game 4 – 5 walks. Then game 5 – their 5 pitchers give up 10 walks and their defense commits 4 errors. Needless to say Columbus benefited greatly with an 8 run 3rd, 2 more in the 4th and rested most of their regulars after that. And J.A. Happ pitches 6, giving up 2 hits and the relievers give up 2 more for a combined 10-0 shut-out.
JNE 0-4-4 LP Dan Straily (2-1)
COL 10-9-0 WP Happ (1-2)
Game #6:  This game had some excitement. Keon Broxton hits a 2 run homer (2) off Jordan Lyles in the 3rd. Lyles stays in to pitch 6 and is then lifted for a pinch-hitter. Martin Perez had been dominate through 5 (1 hit) but in the 6th he gives up 5 more and Tommy Hunter gives up another and the Explorers plate 4 for 4-2 lead. Chris Rusin come in for the 7th, gets 1 out but gives up a double to Dimingo Santana who then scores on a Juan Graterol ground out. 4-3 Columbus after 7. Well in the 7th, Columbus changes pitchers and called on David Robertson (by mistake). But they didn’t want to lose, so they left him in for 2.2 ip save – and he came through and fanned 6 along the way.
JNE 3-6-0 LP Perez (1-1)
COL 4-7-1 WP Lyles (2-0) S Roberston (5)
Series Summary:  Series sweep for the Explorers – surprisingly, but we’ll take it. Columbus goes back on the road, heading to Valdosta while Jersey looks to regroup next week at home against Rosemere.

Southbend  Lynx @ Yonge Street  Stalkers

Series Preview:  The Lynx visited the Stalkers.
Game #1:  Estrada was just a bit stronger than Bergman, though both pitched well. Whitley issued the games only walk in relief and was saddled with the loss in a tight opener. Soler and Heyward swatted solo shots for YSS, while Joyce and Gale did the same for the Lynx. YSS 4 – SBL 3
Game #2:  A sloppy game overall. The home team misplayed 3 balls early and the tallies were frequent. 3 members of the Lynx homered and 3 more helped to plate 9. SBL 9 – YSS 2
Game #3:  Two Words, bitches…Matt Cain. He gave up 2 runs in the first inning, and then went to “Operation Shutdown”. Luckily (if you’re YSS), Foltynewicz gave up 3 in his half of the first and that was the end of the scoring. YSS 3 – SBL 2
Game #4:  For the second consecutive game, SBL tallied 2 and YSS answered with 3 in the first inning. Michael Pineda (2-1) allowed just those 2 runs in 8 strong innings to bring his early season ERA down to 7.03. Soler popped a 3 run shot. YSS 4 – SBL 2
Game #5:  Gerrit Cole and Herrera combined on the shutout. D’arnaud hit a pair of solo shots. YSS 6 – SBL 0

Game #7:  YSS closed it out in walk-off fashion. Banda and Estrada in the pitchers duel everyone saw coming. YSS 2 – SBL 1.
Series Summary:  A wildly entertaining series, mostly for the home squad. Each team scored a blowout, Gerrit Cole threw a shutout, and then there were 4 very close games all won by YSS. The Stalkers took 6 of 7 and await CCC’s visit. SBL will head home to host DET.

Pittsburgh  Lumber Company @ Tempe  Tempers

Series Preview:  Lumber Company comes to Tempe for a seven game series
Game #1:  Davis and Votto each went deep to put Tempe up 3-0 after one inning. In the 2nd, the lumber loaded the bases but Tempe’s pen came on early to stop any rally. Tempe added single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th to take 6-0 lead. The Lumber Co. got things going in the 7th with four runs, capped by a Grichuk three run homerun off Lester. However, Infante and Olson pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th for the win.
Tempe 6-4
Game #2:  Votto rbi single put Tempe up 1-0 in the 1st. Back to back doubles by Judge and Bell tied in the 2nd. Another timely single by Votto put Tempe up 2-1 in the 5th. Polanco rbi double tied it in 7th, but a Votto solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th put Tempe back up. Philips went deep in the 8th to give Tempe a 4-2 lead. Olson surrendered a solo homerun to Delmonico in the 9th, but he held on for his 2nd save of the series.
Tempe 4-3
Game #3:  Greinke pitched his best game of the season with a complete game, two hit shutout.
Tempe 3-0
Game #4:  Wilkerson made his first (of only two) starts of the season and nearly matched Greinke. He threw a complete game two hitter, but one of the hits was a Marisnick two run homerun in the 8th. Beltre had a homerun and a double and drove in two runs.
Tempe 5-2
Game #5:  Bridwell and seven Tempe relievers combine to shutout the Lumber Company. Votto continued to mash with two hits and two more RBIs.
Tempe 4-0
Game #6:  Both teams failed to produce with bases loaded early on. Marisnick finally broke a 1-1 tie with a RBI single in the 6th, but the lead only lasted for an inning. Austin Jackson slugged a pinch hit three run homerun in the 7th and Olson pitched two scoreless innings for his third save of the season.
Tempe 4-2
Game #7:  A Polanco solo homerun put Pittsburgh up 1-0 in the 3rd. Tempe tied it in 4th on a Beltre rbi double. Gattis went deep in the 7th to put Tempe up 2-1 and Olson went the final 2.1 innings for his fourth save of the series. Hamels pitched eight good innings, but took the loss.
Tempe 2-1
Series Summary:  Tempe pulled off the unlikely sweep behind outstanding pitching and a little timely hitting and defense. The Tempers should come back to reality soon when their part timers run out of gas and its only a matter of time before Lumber Company’s big boppers get those swing angles figured out. Votto was the hitter of the series and Olson the pitcher of the series with four saves over 5.2 innings.

Game #4:  Hill is the third Bethesda pitcher to go 9 innings in another shutout win 4-0. Rosales was the OFF start with a 3 runs blast.
Game #5:  Slater pinch hit 3 runs HR in B8 was enough in a 3-1 local win.
Game #6:  Bethesda plates 8 in the first in a 16-4 victory. Bethesda had 6 long balls.
Series Summary:  Mostly close games but the last one..

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview:  Hollywood looks to clean up against the woeful Solar Sox
Game #1:  Probably the worst game I’ve ever been a part of…and I mean EVER. Hollywood clubs out 27 hits (including 4 homers and 8 extra base hits) good for 28 runs. They took advantage of 11 walks received and 2 Mesa errors to win 28-2.
NOW HERE’S THE WIERD PART……Mejia chips in with a NO HITTER!!!!!!
He walks 5 and 2 Werewolf errors (both by Ketel Marte) allow the Solar Sox to at least get on the board…BUT REALLY!!!!!
Game #2:  More Hollywood scoring. They get 4 in the 1st and coast 9-1. Darwin Barney and Chris Ianetta each hit 2 homers.
Game #3:  Clayton Richard stops the bleeding by tossing a one hit, 7K, no walk shutout at the Werewolves!!! Nomar Mazara hits a homer for the Solar Sox and they win 2-0.
Game #4:  Homers from Chapman and Goldschmidt trump homers from Mazara and Suarez. Hollywood wins 6-2.
Game #5:  Steven Pearce hits 2 homers off Clayton Kershaw and the Sox win 3-2. Go figure….
Game #6:  Goldschmidt and Vazsquez go yard and 3 Hollywood pitchers shut out the Solar Sox on 4 hits.
Game #7:  Mesa get the long ball from Drury and Mazara (his 3rd of the series) and the SOlar Sox take it 8-5.
Series Summary:  OMG. How bad do you want to get beat? After the 1st 2 games, Mesa should have crawled away and died, but they didn’t and manage to win 3 of 7 from the first place and plenty scary Werewolves.
