Manhattan  Project @ Southwest Detroit  Fighting Chihuahuas

Series Summary:  Chihuahuas win two!!!!

Jersey  Nor’easters @ Bethesda  Bandicoots

Series Preview:  The divisional rivalry between Bethesda and Jersey heats up with the Bandicoots hosting the Nor’easters in a six-game extravaganza.
Game #1:  Martin Perez (5-11) vs Jake Arrieta (15-5)
A mismatch of a pitching duel on paper, but they play the games on grass and dirt (and sometimes plastic) so armchair athletes enjoy your beers and stop pretending you know the game.
A cocky Arrieta had a reality check early when Jay Bruce took him VERY deep to right field. It was the outfielder’s 31st of the season, but unfortunately no one was aboard to score with him.
The Bandicoots tied the game up in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double by Adrian (Soon to be Useless) Gonzalez who stroked a pair of them in the game.
Cesar Hernandez gave Jersey back the lead in the top of the 2nd with a single that scored Didi Gregorius, but the Bandicoots countered with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning thanks to Lorenzo Cain’s double into the left field corner.
The Nor’easters tied it up in the 6th when Yosmany Tomas’s flyball came within a few feet of leaving the park but the ricochet off the wall in right was enough to bring home Keon Broxton from 1st base. Tomas never got a chance to repeat the feat as he dove catching a popout into the dugout and wound up injured for 5 games.
Carlos Ruiz turned out to be the unlikely hero as the seldom-used catcher trickled Perez’s pitch through the infield just far enough to bring home Aledmys Diaz.
That proved to be the game-winner as Steve Cishek came on in the 9th to preserve the 4-3 win.
Game #2:  Bethesda wins easily 6-1 with Adrian Gonzalez homering twice and Travis Shaw once.
Game #3:  Jersey mounts a nice one-inning comeback scoring four times in the 7th due largely to a bases clearing double by Cesar Hernandez. Michael Lorenzen earns his 5th save as Jersey takes it 4-2.
Game #4:  Rich Hill tosses another gem with six shutout innings as Bethesda wins 3-1. Derek Norris homered for Bethesda.
Game #5:  Bethesda’s turn for a four-run come-from-behind as they count four runs against Daniel Mengden and Brian Shaw in the 6th to win it 6-5. Shaw’s first pitch of the game to Stephen Drew was deposited into the cheap seats with two runners aboard to make the difference.
Game #6:  Jake Arrieta gags and spews late in the game allowing three runs in the 8th as he fumbles the lead to give Jersey a 5-4 win. Jose Ramirez and Miguel Montero made Arrieta their bitch in this one by taking his hanging curve for a ride big time. Good job guys. Try harder next time Jake!
Series Summary:  Bethesda is lucky to take 4 of 6 from Jersey and watches as Pittsburgh stays within striking distance in 2nd place.
