Pittsburgh  Lumber Company @ Windy City  Black Sox

Series Preview:  Pittsburgh and Windy City lock up in a divisional battle.
Game #1:  Sox plate single runs in the 2nd and 3rd but Tallion is able to minimize the damage.
Pitt comes back with three in the 5th on a bases loaded double by Marte.
Sox take the lead back with two in the 6th on two out RBI’s from Saunders and Arenado. Utley adds two more in the 7th on a homer to make it 6-3.
But Pittsburgh ties it in the 8th off Fernando Rodney and is stupidly askew hat. Morrison with the clutch two out hit to score a pair and knot the game at six. The Lumbers complete the comeback with two in the 9th off Jansen.
So Pittsburgh gets three runs in 7 innings against 3 rated pitcher Harvey, and scores 5 off pitchers with 14 and 23 ratings to win the game. Go figure.
Final Pitt 8 Windy City 6
Game #2:  Peavy gets his head beat in by the Lumber Company and doesnt make it out of the third. Urena comes in and settles things down but its plenty for Hamels who makes the early five run lead stand up over 7 solid innings.
Final Pitt 6 WC 3
Game #3:  Pitt gets a run in the 1st off the Shark and then three more in the 4th on a Logan Morrison three run tater.
That’s all Manea needs as he tosses 7 scoreless en route to a 5-0 Pittsburgh win.
Game #4:  Lumbers buzz Bettis for 6 runs in 3.2 innings and once again force the Sox starter out of the game early.
But the Sox plated two in the 2nd on a Castro homer and then get three more in the 4th thanks to some poor defense to cut the deficit to one at 6-5.
Pitt gets two more on a Lucroy triple in the 6th. They add another in the 8th and hang on to win it 9-5.
Game #5:  Sox get an unearned run in the first, Pitt ties it with a run in the 4th.
Same score to the 8th as Fernando Rodney strikes again, surrendering a solo shot to Mike Moustakas. Pitts gets an unearned run on a Castro error for insurance in the 9th.
The run proves key as Utley leads off the bottom of the 9th with a homer, and then the Sox tie the game after pinch hitter Goeddel reaches, moves to third on a hit and run, and scores on a Gardner sac fly. Davis then steals second, but is stranded there. Bonus baseball.
But Castro makes another costly error in the 10th and Jansen takes his second loss of the series as Pitt wins it 4-3
Game #6:  Pitt bats around in the 1st against Harvey and scores four.
Sox get two back in the 4th but Pitt answers with one in the 5th.
Nothing else happened. 5-2 Final.
Game #7:  Pitt with single runs in the 2nd and 3rd. Black Sox get one in the 4th.
Still 2-1 till the bottom of the 7th when Brett Gardner hits a two out, two run homer to make it 3-2 Windy City.
In the 9th Jansen gives up two extra base hits, and the Sox make an error, but they cut two runners down on the bases including one at the plate. Somehow they hold on to win it 3-2.
Series Summary:  When you hear someone talk about “regressing to the mean” this is what it looks like. Windy City was playing well above their heads and comes crashing back to earth losing six of seven to the Lumber Co. at home.

Columbus  Explorers @ Valdosta  Snappers

Series Preview:  A battle between NL Central teams as Columbus visits Valdosta.
Game #1:  Valdosta 3-2 (12 Innings). Chris Carter didn’t homer but he did hit a walk off RBI 1B in the bottom of the 12th to give the Snappers the win.

Game #3:  Columbus 4-3 (12 Innings). A Seth Smith 12th inning error led to the winning run scoring. The Explorers bullpen pitched 6 innings of 1 hit ball.

Series Summary:  Columbus goes 5-2 against a reeling Valdosta club. Chris Carter does have 27 HR’s on the year for Valdosta.

Long Beach  Dirt Bags @ Sacramento  Capitals

Series Summary:  Sacramento gets the sweep at home against it’s SoCal rival Long Beach.

The early season has seen a ton of 1-run games for Sacramento, and we are losing most. With three 1-run wins this week, we’re hoping this series will spark a reversal of that trend.

Motor City  Muscle @ Mesa  Solar Sox

Series Preview:  If it looks like it’s going to be an ass-kicking and it smells like it’s going to be an ass kicking, then it probably will be an ass kicking as the Motor City Muscle load up to face the frightened, quivering Mesa Solar Sox pitching staff.
Game #1:  Despite the Solar Sox hammering 4 homers off Justin Verlander, Motor City wins 7-5 as David Phelps blows it in the 12th.
Game #2:  Moss and Freese homer, Trout and Ramirez combine for 5 hits and 3 runs scores. MCM win again 8-4.
Game #3:  Trout hits a 9th inning homer for the game winner, 8-7.
Game #4:  Jordan Zimmerman throws a 6 hit complete game shutout, striking out 11. Trout 3 RBIs. Freese and Moss homer. MCM 8-0.
Game #5:  WHAAAAT! Mesa ekes out a win 8-5. Dozier hits 2 homers, scores three times and drives in 3 but the big news is the first MWBL homer for Raul Mondesi! His father would be proud.
Game #6:  Another 8-4 win for the Muscle. Trout and Loney homer.
Series Summary:  The Muscle score 12 1st inning runs in the 5-1 series win. They crush 74 hits in 6 games but were out homered 10-9. The Sox continue their free fall after a strong start.

Dallas  Cougars @ Fremont  Cannons

Game #1:  Maikel Franco ‘s 2-run HR was the difference as Fremont wins 3-1. Dallas Keuchel is lost to injury for 25 days.
Game #2:  Chase Anderson goes seven strong, and Jose Abreu wallops two homers in the 9-2 Dallas rout.
Game #3:  Gregor Blanco singles in the go-ahead run in the ninth as Dallas wins 5-4.
Game #4:  Fremont hits four home runs, but cannot hang on as Dallas comes back to win 9-7. Jose Abreu leaves with a HBP but is ready to go for Game 5.
Game #5:  Angry about the HBP, Jose Abreu has his second two-homer game of the series. Fremont bats prove more potent, however, as they double up Dallas 12-6. Anthony Recker is lost to injury for 32 days.
Game #6:  Carlos Correa homers twice, & Khris Davis hits his 15th home run of the season, as Fremont takes this one 9-4. Jose Abreu continues his hot streak with another home run.
Game #7:  Jose Abreu goes yard again, and Dallas takes the rubber match 7-5.
Series Summary:  Dallas wins the series 4-3. Clear MVP of the series is Jose Abreu, despite the Game 4 injury: .320, 2B, 6 HR, 13 RBI, 7 R

Bethesda  Bandicoots @ Tempe  Tempers

Series Preview:  The top team in the NL East visits the leader in the NL Central for a six game series.
Game #1:  Tempe broke open a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 6th on a Cespedes solo hr and a Cabrera rbi double. Tempe added two more when Braun and Cespedes hit solo homeruns in the 7th and then a final deuce in the eighth on a Votto two run double.
Tempe 7-1
Game #2:  Arrietta took matters into his own hands starting the scoring with a solo homerun in the 3rd. Naquin followed him with solo also in the inning. Cueto surrendered two more runs in the fourth. Chen came on and worked on his usage…tossing batting practice for the final 5 innings. A Diaz grandslam in the 9th capped a very one sided game.
Bethesda 12-0
Game #3:  Tempe used the long ball with homeruns by Cano, Braun and Beltre to thump the Bandicoots.
Tempe 9-3
Game #4:  The game remained scoreless until the 5th when Cano singled in the first run. Fryer tied it up on a two out pinch hit rbi single off Lester in the 7th. However, a Beltre two run HR off Cishek in the 8th put Tempe up for good.
Tempe 3-1
Game #5:  Tempe batted around in the 3rd scoring six runs off Lackey with homeruns by Gattis and Cespedes.
Tempe 9-3
Game #6:  A two run HR in the 1st by Story put Betheseda up early. In the 5th, Braun missed out on grand slam because a wild pitched allowed a run to score before he hit a 3 run homerun. Braun launched another homerun in the 7th to give Tempe more insurance.
Tempe 5-3
Series Summary:  MWBL’s best offense caught Bethesda’s rotation at the backend (something that won’t happen in the playoffs) which helped them to mash for a 5-1 series win. Bethesda’s hitters also may have worn themselves out in game two when they scored a dozen runs.
