New York  Outlaws @ Jersey  Nor’easters
Series Summary
Two cellar dwellers meet in the last series of the year with Jersey coming out on top 4-2. On to the draft.

Selkirk  Steelers @ Columbus  Explorers
Series Preview
Final weekend of the season and the Columbus Explorers with 120 wins coming in are still needing 1 win to clinch the pennant! So that is on the line this week and they host 4th place (NL Central) Selkirk with hopes of champagne and some rest.
Game #1: Severino having a great rookie season is called on for the opener and he is staked to 1-0 lead in the 1st. It’s going well until an error in the 5th leads to a 2 run HR (9) by Starlin Castro – both runs unearned. Collmenter started but left the game in the 3rd and is out for the season. Cravy replaced him and blanks Columbus through the 6th. But in the 7th they erupt for 5 runs keyed by Zimmerman’s 3 run HR (9). Selkirk gets one back in the 8th, and in spite of committing FIVE (5) errors, the Explorer pen allows no more and the celebration begins! Pop!
SEL 3- 6-0 LP Cravy (1-1)
COL 6-10-5 WP Gilmartin (8-0)
Game #2:
With the pennant clinched it’s now tune up time. Tomlin starts, goes 5 innings, 1 hit. Dunn and 4 other relievers give up 2 (and 1 unearned run). Meanwhile Desmond gets 2 hits and a homer (12),
E.Hernandez 3 hits and the Explorers take the game 8-1.
SEL 1- 3-4 LP Danks (0-1)
COL 8-13-2 WP Tomlin (6-2)
Game #3: This was about as close a game as any. Santana starts but in the 3rd he walks off the mound. He checks himself out and is fine, but Schindel pulls him anyway. He had given up a lead-off single to Spangenberg in the 1st. That turns out to be the only Steelers hit in the game. But Straily is being brutal to the Columbus batters – giving up just 4 hits in his 6 innings. However, one of them was Cuddyer’s 7th homer of the season [his last as he’s retiring]. McAllister comes in to finish and gives up 1 hit, no runs, so the HR holds up as the game winner.
SEL 0-1-0 LP Straily (0-1)
COL 1-5-0 WP LeCure (1-0) S Rodriguez (25
NOTE – no errors in the game after games 1 and 2 averaged 5.5.
Game #4:
J.A. Happ has been having a dream season and he gets the start for this one and goes 7 innings, 5 hits, 0 runs and 7ks. He leaves the game with a 5-0 lead fueled by another great outing from Enrique Hernandez (4 for 5, 4 rbis, triple). Dunn comes in to get some qualifying work and gives up 3 runs including a Moore HR (9). 3 of the hits Happ gave up went to Roberson (3 for 3). But 3 more relievers keep the Selkirk rally in check.
SEL 4- 9-1 LP Alvarez (7-16)
COL 7-13-1 WP Happ (17-5)
Game #5: Dickey gets the start and Selkirk has his number – and again fielding for the Explorers (not a long suit, which can come to haunt them) contributes to the 4 run Steelers 2nd giving them a 5-0 lead. Castro has hot start in the game with a hit in the 1st and 3 run homer (10) in the 2nd. Dickey is lifted for a pinch hitter in the 3rd giving up 6 hits, 1 walk, 5 runs (1 earned) in his 3 innings.
Lamb, pitching for Selkirk starts the game by striking out the first 6 batters (he will end up with 12).In the 3rd, the steak ends with a walk to Desmond and then a single to Flowers. Nunez PHs for Dickey and walks. Explores end up striking back scoring 3, but leave a bunch on the table. Lamb pretty much uses up his arm by the 6th and gives up a game tying, 2 out 2 run HR (10) to Zimmerman. The game is still tied at the end of 9 and the Explores put their 18-0 extra inning record on the line. Hembree pitching, 1 out, Castro singles. E.Navarro pinch hits and Hardy comes in to pitch. Navarro gets a single to LF and it hits off Revere’s glove (E7). Castro gets to 3rd and they wave him in – Revere makes up for the error with a strike to nail Castro and keeps the go ahead run from scoring. Hardy(gets the job done on his batter???) leaves and LeCure comes in and fans Souza. Cravy comes in to pitch the 10th for Selkirk. Gordon leads off with a single and E.Hernandez moves him to 3rd with a single. Zimmerman then steps up and fists one to RF scoring Gordon for the winner.
SEL 5 9-1 LP Cravy (1-2) 10 innings
COL 6-11-3 WP LeCure (2-0)
Game #6: Chris Rusin (10-1) is making his 12 start of the season. As unlikely as the Explorers winning way past the century mark, Rusin winning even 5 games was doubtful – but in a dream season, fantasy can happen. But Selkirk was having none of that. In the first he gives up an rbi singles to Guerrero and C.Sanchez. But his mates get him 1 back. Then in the 2nd they score 3 more – 2 of those game on a 2 run homer by Rusin (2). He wants to win bad! But, he gives up a Guerrero homer (13) in the 3rd which makes it 4-3, clinging to a 1 run lead. Rusin settles in and pitches 3 more innings, leaving after 6 – but his team got 1 more in the 6th to make it more comfortable. Then they get 2 more in the 7th and Robertson and Rodriguez tune up for the postseason allowing no runs for the final 3 innings. Rusin wins another one – now he waits to see if he’ll play again (11-1 in 12 starts and he may be just a spectator!)
SEL 3-10-0 LP Geltz (1-4)
COL 7-13-0 WP Rusin (11-1)
Series Summary Well for the 1st time in 1997 (inaugural MWBL season) the Columbus Explorers have won a tile (then it was the AL Central title). Since the Explores return to MWBL, this is their 1st winning season, and their 126 wins tops their previous best of 113 (in 1997). Fluky things: 32-10 in 1 run games, 19-0 in extra inning games, 41-3 record compiled by the bullpen, and a 10-15 record against Tempe and Sacramento (ouch). That last stat is a big one as those guys are 2 of the other post season teams.

Great seasons from Blackmon (.308/.349/.840, 23 Hrs, 100 runs, 115 rbis, 50 SBs) and Gordon (.356/.372/.815, 216 hits, 103 runs, 67 SBs) but the guy the team looked to was Matt Carpenter (.279/.355/.907, 37 Hrs 111, runs, 124 rbis).
Pitchers: Severino 7-1, 2.04 in 11 starts; Happ 17-5, 2.15 in 29 starts;
Tomlin 6-2, 2.19 in 12 stats and McCullers 9-2, 2.21 in 21 starts.
Dickey, who started 29 games was actually their worst guys finishing 13-10 with 3.20 era.
Fans in Columbus are working on building another deck on the stadium in time for the post season!

Game #4:
SBL get out in front early and are up 6-1 going into the 5th. But VA would explode with 7 runs in the 5th with the big hits being a Markakis 2-run HR and a Walker 3-run HR. Long Beach  Dirt Bags @ Sacramento  Capitals
Series Summary Sacramento takes the final six games in a sweep of Long Beach. This marks Sacramento’s second worst-to-first season, matching our second best record in 18 years: 120-42.Sacramento’s RBI leader was once again Albert Pujols, at a less-than-spectacular 98 RBI, leading a line-up made up almost entirely of platoon players. Dickerson and Stanton, however, simply had incredible  seasons, with Dickerson slashing .396/.435/.753 with 18 HR and 53 RBI in 235 AB and Stanton slashing .302/.372/.638 with 29 HR and 61 RBI in 298 AB.But, it’s been our pitching that has made all the difference. A team 2.17 ERA is our best in 18 years.

Valdosta  Snappers @ Tempe  Tempers
Series Preview
The Snappers look to build off the first match up with the Tempers and finish the season above .500. While the Tempers want a little payback since they still blame their poor start against Valdosta for their inability to ever catch Columbus…..The page crashed or I accidentally closed just after finishing all of the reviews, so the second pass is rather brief.
Game #1:
Homeruns by Carter and Sano put Valdosta up 3-1. A Tulo pinch hit single tied it in the 7th. Carter’s 17th error in the 10th allowed the go ahead run to score for Tempe. Davis and Cespedes then smacked homeruns off a frustrated Swarzak.
Tempe 7-3
Game #2:
Chen went the distance for his 18th win and 9th complete game of the season
Tempe 10-3
Game #3:
Davis went deep twice and drove in five runs. Votto and Bogaerts also went deep.
Tempe 13-4
Game #4:
Cespedes launched two, three run homeruns as Tempe rolled again.
Tempe 11-2
Game #5:
Cespedes hit an early two run homerun in the first and a squeeze in the 2nd put Tempe up 3-0. Carter solo in the 4th put Valdosto on the board. Votto homerun in the 6th made it 4-1. Valdosto scrapped up runs in the 6th and 7th, but Holland closed out the 8th and 9th for the save.
Tempe 4-3
Game #6:
Cespedes hit another two run homerun in the 1st and Tempe cruised to an easy win. Cespdes was pulled in the 2nd before Valdosta could intentionally throw at him. Unlucky Wisler finished the season 3-11. Chacin lowered his era below 6.
Tempe 5-1
Series Summary
Cespedes showed why he is a favorite for MPV going 11 for 19 with 5 Homeruns and 14 RBIs. Tempe finished with the second best record in the NL and the Central. Valdosta finished with nearly a .500 record outside their Division.
