Columbus Explorers @ Sacramento Capitals | |
---|---|
Series Preview |
The NL Central and NL West division leaders face off for what could be a consequential 6-game series. The Explorers gamble on a big series by sending two big arms down to the minors, perhaps preparing for a face-off with the Evil Empire (i.e., Tempe, or Chris “the butcher” Douglass, or Voldemort, or George Steinbrenner, etc., etc., etc.–you get the picture). |
Game #1: |
S. Matz v. E. Santana The Capitals jump on Santana early, plating 4 in the 2nd inning. The Explorers net one run on a D. Gordon solo HR, but it wouldn’t be enough. COL – 1 W – S. Matz (2-0) HR – D. Norris, D. Gordon |
Game #2: |
J. Garcia v. T. Milone The Caps again win 4-1 with two HRs by A. Pujols and D. Norris. COL – 1 W – J. Garcia (10-1) HR – A. Pujols, D. Norris |
Game #3: |
D. Salazar v. J. Happ Sacramento takes a 2-0 lead off RBI singles form D. Norris in the 2nd and D. Valencia in the 5th, but a Columbus 4-run 6th, capped by a 3-run Zimmerman HR, was all the Explorers would need. COL – 4 W – J. Happ (15-3) HR – R. Zimmerman |
Game #4: |
M. Scherzer v. L. McCullers The Capitals decided to have a little fun with this one. After trading 1-run frames in the first two innings, Sacramento scored 4 in the 3rd, taking a 6-2 lead, and followed it up with a 2-run 6th and 3-run 8th. In all, Sacramento hit 5 HRs, with T. Hunter swatting two COL – 2 W – M. Scherzer (13-5) HR – D. DeShields, A. Pujols, T. Hunter (2), H. Ramirez |
Game #5: |
Z. Greinke v. R. Dickey Z. Greinke enters the 7th with a no-hitter, but loses it to a E. Nunez single in the 7th. The Caps had his back, though, hitting 3 HRs and scoring 9. COL – 0 W – Z. Greinke (15-7) HR – G. Stanton, H. Ramirez, D. Norris |
Game #6: |
S. Matz v. E. Santana S. Matz tosses 7 shutout innings and gets just enough offensive support from H. Ramirez (solo shot) and N. Aoki (RBI single) to earn his 2rd win of the series. COL – 0 W – S. Matz (3-0) HR – H. Ramirez |
Series Summary |
Sacramento takes 5 of 6 from Columbus, outscoring the Explorers 32-8. The Capitals are getting fatigued, however, and our patchwork combination of platoon players seems to be getting a little beaten up …
