2016 PLAYER / PITCHER OF THE WEEK #19

Two well below .500 teams went at it in Selkirk. Triple creek and Selkirk players are long since out of it and are only playing for next year and some hopes of being on the leaderboard.

Gibson the Selkirk ace had his stuff 8 innings 5 hits no walks and 7 K’s as he allowed only 2 runs in his 11th win.

Reyes had 3 hits and Gausman was great as Triple creek won 4-1 .

The non injured Henderson Alvarez was excellent again allowing just 1 run in 9 innings lowering the grades 3’s era to 3.09 .

Speaking of playing for starts Selkirk’s starter Lamb is second in the league in strikeouts with 196 going into the start. He did not have his best stuff but K’d 8 in seven innings. Somehow the Selkirk offense scored 9 runs to give him the win despite allowing 7 runs.

Bub Norris figured out his cutter in this game and had a no hitter with two out in the 7th. He did tire as bit allowing a run in the 8th but managed to hold on and get his second win of the year vs 15 losses!

Gibson was great again 1 run in 9 innings 7 hits and two walks.

So Selkirk is on a role as they win 5 of 6 vs TCP and have won 7 of their last 10. henderson Alvarez and Gibson some how have eras in the low 3’d despite being a grade 3 and a grade 9.

South West Detroit and Tijuana split a 6 game series at Southwest Detroit.

Clovis takes the whole team on the road to DC and Pittsburgh this week as the road trip continues. New York Outlaws will take on the Wheat Kings in a 6 gamer.

Clovis took 5 of 6 from New York who has fallen on some hard times this year.

The NL Central and NL West division leaders face off for what could be a consequential 6-game series.

The Explorers gamble on a big series by sending two big arms down to the minors, perhaps preparing for a face-off with the Evil Empire (i.e., Tempe, or Chris “the butcher” Douglass, or Voldemort, or George Steinbrenner, etc., etc., etc.–you get the picture).

Sacramento takes a 2-0 lead off RBI singles form D. Norris in the 2nd and D. Valencia in the 5th, but a Columbus 4-run 6th, capped by a 3-run Zimmerman HR, was all the Explorers would need.

The Capitals decided to have a little fun with this one. After trading 1-run frames in the first two innings, Sacramento scored 4 in the 3rd, taking a 6-2 lead, and followed it up with a 2-run 6th and 3-run 8th. In all, Sacramento hit 5 HRs, with T. Hunter swatting two

Z. Greinke enters the 7th with a no-hitter, but loses it to a E. Nunez single in the 7th. The Caps had his back, though, hitting 3 HRs and scoring 9.

S. Matz tosses 7 shutout innings and gets just enough offensive support from H. Ramirez (solo shot) and N. Aoki (RBI single) to earn his 2rd win of the series.

Sacramento takes 5 of 6 from Columbus, outscoring the Explorers 32-8. The Capitals are getting fatigued, however, and our patchwork combination of platoon players seems to be getting a little beaten up …

Pittsburgh travels to Valdosta.

Valdosta 4-1. Colin McHugh evens his record at 8-8 with 6 strong IP.  Kimbrel saved his 18th.

Valdosta 6-3. Aaron Altheer’s 3 run HR made a winner of Julio Tehreran (12-7). Kimbrel saved his 19th.

Pittsburgh 6-5. Wade Miley (7-11) scattered 11 hits and held on for the win. Barrett picked up his 4th save.

Pittsburgh 9-2. Moustakas and LaRoche both hit 3 run HR’s to make a winner of Drew Hutchison (7-9).

Valdosta 9-4. Phil Hughes (7-11) allowed 13 hits but just 3 runs in 7 IP. Kimbrel picked up the one out save (20).

Pittsburgh 9-1. The Lumber Company hit 3 HR’s as the breeze past the Snappers.

Series split, 3-3.

The Stalkers host the Solar Sox.

Joe Kelly and 2 relievers combined on the shutout. D’Arnaud led the offense with a grand slam.

Mesa bounced back nicely behind Wagner. O. Herrera tallied 4 hits for the visitors. MSS lost Y. Gomes for 20 days.

Are we finally getting a glimpse of YSS future? Heyward, Bryant, D’Arnaud and Soler drove home runs in support of Taijuan Walker.

Shelby Miller left the game in the 2nd (inj 7 days). The YSS pen was strong. Nolasco wasn’t.

MSS salvaged the last game behind Eddie Butler. He went the distance and allowed no earned runs while striking out 10.

YSS takes 4 of 6. They will head to SBD next week, while MSS continues their roadie to VIR.

Manhattan has some unexpected but welcome luck– wins series 5-1. No blowouts, close games. No injuries. Pomerants pitched 2 CG’s, yielding only 2 runs in the first CG and a total shut out in the other.

Corktown tried to play spoiler as they host the reigning champions.

Tempster starter Iwakuma was chased in the 3rd inning after giving up 6 runs. Tempe’s bats were just too much for Corktown pitching. Down 1 run Robinson Cano hit a 3 run shot with 2 outs in the 9th to take the lead and secure the W for the Tempers. Votta also had a 3 run blast.Tempe 8-6

Cueto was chased in the 3rd giving up 5 runs off 7 hits to Cycle batters. Tempe also had 2 errors in the 3rd inning, 3 total in this game. Tempe crawled back into this one tying it in the 8th, and that was the last run scored by either team for the next 10 innings. This one went 18 innings and it took a Michael Taylor walk off hit for the Cycle. Both benches were used up. 37 total hits in the game.

Another game where Corktown blows a lead. This time giving up 5 runs in the 8th inning. Chris Davis lead the way with a 3 run HR.

The Tempers bats continued to mash Cycle pitching. How about 12 runs off 17 hits in this one. Gattis had 6 RBI while going 3/5 with a Home Run.

Johnny Cueto went the distance, shutting out facing only 29 Cycle batters, and giving up only 1 hit and 2 walks with 11 punch outs.

Tempe runs off 5 of 6 as the Tempers bats were just too much for Cycle pitching.

Slumping Bethesda hosts Long Beach.

J.J. Hardy’s homer in the top of the 9th caps a Dirt Bags’ comeback as they take it 6-4.

Mike Fiers tosses six shutout innings and although Alex Rodriguez’s homer in the bottom of the 9th made it close, the Bandicoots fall short and drop another one to Long Beach 3-2.

Adrian Gonzalez rams one through the infield for a walk off 3-2 Bethesda win.

Yordano (Shit For Brains) Ventura and Mark Melancon combine to one-hit the Bandicoots in an easy 3-0 win.

The suddenly very hittable Rich Hill coughs up another game-winning homer – this one to Kevin Pillar – as Long Beach captures another win 4-3 in extra frames.

A flurry of late-inning errors almost hands yet another win to Long Beach, but Chris Young holds them off in the 9th to secure a 3-2 win for Bethesda.

Long Beach takes four of six against the sleepy Bandicoots.

Hollywood sweeps Coconut Creek, shutting them out 3 times in 6 games including a David price no-hitter in game 2. In fact, Price had a perfect game till he walked Cody Ross to lead off the 9th.CC was outscored 43-11 in the series.Cargo has played in 10 games since the trade with Tempe and has 4 homers, 13 RBIs

Montomery goes the distance in a great performance. The Nor’easters head into the bottom of the 9th with a 2-0 lead. Michael Conforto will put one on the board to cut the lead in half…..but that is all the Gators can manage.

Tie ball game at 3-3 going into the 9th; Jersey scores 2 runs to take the lead and will hold on from there.

Another close game right to the end. Tie ball game going into the 9th; Quackenbush gives up a few hits and allows the Nor’Easters to score the go-ahead run. Grand Haven could do nothing with their final at bats

Grand Haven could only muster 1 run off of 3 hits; meanwhile Jersey pounded out 11 hits and had more than enough offense to secure the W.

Jersey take 5 of the 6 games.  Jersey losses a couple players for a stretch

Altuve (15) and Gomes (11) homer for the visitors in a 4-2 Lynx win.  Schoop (12) homers for the Cannons.

Rodon moves to 6-12 on the season with a 4-2 Fremont win.

Southbend scores two in the seventh to win this one 4-3. Osuna picks up the win in relief.

Southbend steamrolls Billingsley in a 9-2 win. Trumbo goes 4-5 with a homer and 6 RBI.

Nicasio shuts out the Lynx for a 3-0 Fremont victory. All runs were scored via solo home run, by Franco (9), Rua (2), and Buxton (10).

Despite allowing just two hits in eight, Buehrle takes the 1-0 loss. Kelly gets the complete game win, and Morse’s HR is the only scoring.
