Jersey  Nor’easters @ Bethesda  Bandicoots
Series Preview
Still reeling from the pounding they received at the hands of Columbus last week, the Bethesda Bandicoots try to right the ship as they host division rival Jersey Nor’easters.
Game #1: A near spectacular comeback which included an 8th inning grand slam by Jay Bruce falls just short as Jersey stumbles in the opener losing 8-6 to Bethesda.
Bethesda looked to be in the driver’s seat on cruise control in this game, leading 8-2 with Justin Nicolino on the mound facing the Nor’easters but a walk to Domingo Santana and singles by Cesar Hernandez and Howie Kendrick set the stage for Bruce’s grand salami. Poof … unclose game becomes very close.
It almost became a case of live by the sword die by the sword for Bethesda as they homered four times against Jersey starter Tim Lincecum and the Nor’easter bullpen. Thankfully for Bethesda, starter turned closer Rich Hill continued his perfect season closing out the 9th and remained unscored on in the year.
FINAL – BETHESDA 8, JERSEY 6
W-E.Ramirez (7-2, 3.50)
SV-R.Hill (10, 0.00)
L-T.Lincecum (1-4, 6.42)
HR-JNE: H.Kendrick (6), J.Bruce (14); BET: L.Cain (6), A.Rodriguez (14), B.Miller (2), S.Drew (8)
Game #2:
… and let the scoring drought begin.
Jake Arrieta scattered four hits over eight innings as the Bandicoots downed Jersey 4-0. JP Arencibia singled, doubled and drove in a trio of runs to pace
the Bethesda offence.
FINAL – BETHESDA 4, JERSEY 0
W-J.Arrieta (8-5, 1.33)
L-M.Perez (0-4, 4.95)
HR-none
Game #3:
Sonny Gray’s wildness paid dividends as he walked four, but allowed only two hits as Bethesda blanked Jersey 5-0.
FINAL – BETHESDA 5, JERSEY 0
W-S.Gray (8-5, 2.89)
L-J.Quintana (3-7, 3.64)
HR-BET: J.Paredes (4)
Game #4:
Bethesda continued its shutout streak to four days (in part thanks to a day off) as Tyson Ross had all cylinders firing, fanning nine and allowing only one walk and six hits in a 2-0 Bethesda victory over Jersey. The Jersey offense was a huge letdown to its starter Kyle Hendricks who just gave up three hits and struck out nine in seven strong innings.
FINAL – BETHESDA 2, JERSEY 0
W-T.Ross (3-6, 3.40)
SV-R.Hill (11, 0.00)
L-K.Hendricks (6-6, 2.81)
HR-BET: B.Miller (3)
Game #5: The drought ends in a big way with Bethesda storming back from an early 6-0 deficit to count five times in the last two innings as they took the fifth straight over Jersey 8-7. None other than complete jerkoff Alex Rodriguez was the hero in this game when with two outs and Anthony Rendon on 2nd base, the controversial Yankee laced a Brad Boxberger offering into the left center field gap bringing the runner in to end the contest. The game included 28 hits in total with Bethesda getting the edge 15-13 mostly due to the collapse of the Jersey bullpen. Low-grade starter Michael Lorenzen lasted seven innings for Jersey in the game allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and four walks. Daniel Murphy walked, doubled, homered and scored three runs for Jersey.
David Peralta had three hits for Bethesda. The win kept starter Jake Odorizzi’s record a perfect 8-0 despite a horrendous start in which he lasted just 2-2/3 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and a walk. For Jersey, the loss was charged to Liam Hendriks who opened the 9th inning looking for the save and instead saw himself come up with his first blown save of the season.
FINAL – BETHESDA 8, JERSEY 7
W-C.Young (4-3, 2.67)
L-L.Hendriks (2-1, 2.30)
HR-JNE: D.Murphy (8); BET: A.Ethier (6)
Game #6:
Back-to-back-to-back homers by David Peralta, Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez in the 4th inning ruined what was otherwise a strong start by ?Jersey’s Chris Heston as Bethesda completed the sweep with a 6-4 over the Nor’easters. Lucas Duda singled, walked, and homered to drive in three runs in
heading up the Jersey offense. Catcher AJ Pierzynski paced Bethesda with a 3/4 performance and an RBI.
FINAL – BETHESDA 6, JERSEY 4
W-E.Ramirez (8-2, 3.33)
SV-R.Hill (12, 0.00)
L-C.Heston (6-3, 3.14)
HR-JNE: L.Duda (9); BET: D.Peralta (11), A.Ethier (7), A.Gonzalez (13)
Series Summary
A much needed sweep by Bethesda will hopefully provide a bit of a cushion between itself and 2nd place Pittsburgh while Jersey loses ground on 3rd place New York.

Edison Volquez and Ian Kennedy took turns straining their necks watching balls fly out of the park. Kennedy gave up homers to Trout, Chris Young, and Preston Tucker.
