Series Preview
Iron City (41-49) visits Columbus (34-56) – two last place teams, Iron City is only 8 games out of 1st while Columbus is 30 games behind the ever dominate Tempe Tempers. Both teams playing for respect with suspect pitching staffs.
Game #1:
Iron City sends out Robbie Ray who goes 8 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 runs. Along the way he cracks a triple and scores a run. LeMahieu drives in 2 and Iron City takes the opener 4-2.

Game #2:
Explorers come back in game 2 behind strong pitching from Nick Tepesch 8.2 innings of 3 hit shutout ball before giving up a 2 out HR to Hosmer (13) in the 9th. The run made it 6-1 Columbus, the final. Explorer offense led by Carpenter (3 hits, 2 runs, 1 rbi – HR (7) and Blackmon, 2 hits, double and triple and 2 rbis.

Game #3:
Lots of runs. Col 2-0 after 3, then 4-3 after 4. Then 6-4 after 5 and 7-5 after 6! LeMahieu HR (5) part of the Yinzers offense as well as 2 hits from Andrus and Hosmer. Blackmon (10) and Nunez (4) go deep for the Explorers, Blackmon again a solid game, 2 for 4, 3 rbis.Oberholtzer stays in long enough for the win (4-2) in 6 ip with 8 ks – Varvaro gets the save striking out 3 in the 9th sandwiched around 2 hits. Danks runs his record to 2-12 with the loss.Final – 7-5 Columbus.

Another game were the home town fans chewed their finger nails as the Eplorers hold a 5-4 lead after 6 – and keep the Yinzers from plating any more runs. Blaine Hardy goes the final 3 in relief – 9 batters, for the save (1). Olivo gets 3 hits for Iron City, Murphy homers (5). and Hellickson was the pitcher who gave up the runs including homers to Desmond (16) and Dunn (15). Blackmon gets 3 hits and 2 rbis.

Game #5: Lance Lynn (Iron City) and Scott Baker (COL) launch into a pitcher’s duel that goes 10 innings. Columbus scored 1 in the first when Murphy got the droppsies. Yinzers tie it in the 5th on an Andrus rbi single – this run was also unearned as J. Baker played the droppsies  as well. Lynn stays steady through 9. Baker goes to the mound in the 10th. Fuld gets a PH double and with 1 out scores on a Peterson SF  to make it 2-1. Treinen comes in to pitch the bottom of the 10th and gives up 1 hit, but PR Romine gets nabbed at 3rd after stealing 2nd  and trying for 3rd on the wild throw. 2 more batters and the game is over with Iron City on

Game #6:
This one was a blowout and over by the 4th. Ray started again and got hammered giving up 7 hits, 2 walks and 8 runs in 3.1 innings. Maholm didn’t do too much better in 2.2 ip, 5 hits and 3 runs. Meanwhile, “ace” Tepesch goes 9 innings giving up 4 hts and fanning
12 for the CG shutout.Jeter 2 hits, 3 rbis (HR #2), Blackmon a 2 run HR (11), Nunez a HR (5) an couple other 2 hit guys in the 12 hit attack. Final 11-0 Columbus.

5-2 CHI win. CCC manages to score off Dellin Betances.Our only moral victory in this series.

5-0 CHI win. Chris Sale too much again.

Triple Creek  Patriots @ Clovis  Wheat Kings
Series Preview
4th place Triple Creek heads to Clovis to take on the 1st place Wheat Kings who have been scuffling after being chewed up by Tempe over the last couple of series.
Game #1:
Clovis 7 Triple Creek 6 in 10 innings.
Fun game that went back and forth before Belt drives home the game winner in the 10th. Aoki knocked in 3 for the Patriots while  Arenado and Hunter went back to back with home runs for the Wheat Kings.
Game #2:
Patriots 10 Wheat Kings 3.
TP pounds Vogelsong led by Pence with a big fly and 4 RBI. Aoki and Chisenhall chipped in with 3 hits each to make a winner of De La Rosa.
Game #3:
TCP 4 CWK 2
Aoki, Pence, and Nava provide all the offense and Buchholz shuts down the Wheat Kings over before Russell and Leone close it out. Aoki scores a pair on 2 hits, Pence chips in with a pair of hits and a pair of RBI and Bava drives home the other two Patriot runs.
Cashner took his first loss of the season to drop to 11-1.
Game #4: CWK 6 TCP 5Back and forth all day; Patriots plate a pair in the first, Kings fire back with a pair of their own. Patriots go up by one in the fourth but Davis answers for Clovis with his 10th homer of the year in the bottom of the frame to re-tie the game. Clovis scores an unearned run in the 6th on a Hunter base hit. In the top of the 8th Patriots retake lead on a two run bomb by Sardinas,his first ever including TV ball. However, in the bottom of the inning an error, the Patriots third of the game, lead to a 2 run Wheat King rally highlighted by run scoring hits from Hunter and Crawford to provide the cushion for victory. Watson got the win in relief while Casilla picked up the save, Feliz who’s error opened the door, took the loss.
Game #5: Triple Creek 9 Clovis 4The game everyone has been waiting for Gonzo vs. Gonzo, a pair of tough grade 11 starters! Both Gonzos look good, scoreless through 3, in the 4th Reyes drives one over the fence for a Patriot lead and the only blemish for the Gio. Meanwhile the Miguel continues to mow down Wheat Kings until the 6th when Phillips and Cruz hit back to back doubles to tie things up. With the score  tied Patriot manager Duke Robinson Jr., with no sense of history or coincidence at all yanks his Gonzo for Russell who closes out the inning. After 7 strong from the Wheat King Gonzo and the lead run at second Wheat Kings sent Bloomquist up to pinch hit but he flied out to end the inning and bring us to the 8th tied at 1 apiece with no Gonzos in sight. Top of the eighth and Patriots explode for 4 runs off of a parade of bullpen arms. The rally was highlighted by 3 steals including Brantley’s steal of home. Bottom of the frame and Cruz sent hia 18th fly over the fence for a pair of runs and Davis followed with his 11th to make it a one run game heading into the ninth. In the ninth Patriots again score four highlighted by Reyes’ two run single to ice the win 9-4
Game #6:
Wheat Kings 9 Patriots 0
Richards fires 3 hit shutout and Nelson Cruz hammers three home runs for 5 RBI to lead Clovis and gain a split of the series.
Series Summary
Patriots and Wheat Kings split six games. Cruz belts 4 homers in the series while Aoki gets on base 14 times over the 6 games to lead
their respective clubs.

Series Preview
Two teams going nowhere meet because they have to.
Game #1:
VIR 2-0
Scherzer goes 8, allows 2 hits and K’s 8. Rizzo doubles in 2 runs in the 1st and Scherzer makes it stick.
Game #2:
VIR 4-2
B.Guyer’s go ahead RBI double in the 8th gives VIR the lead and S.Tolleson makes it stand up.
Game #3:
VIR 2-1
Rasmus gives DAL a 1-0 lead in the 4th but Segura’s RBI in the 9th ties it and B.Guyer singles in Stanton with the winner in the 10th.
Game #4:
DAL 10-9
This game was a 5-5 tie in the 6th as the teams traded homers in the early innings. J.Abreu blasted 2 for DAL and Markakis hit 2 for VIR. In the 9th DAL took a 10-5 lead highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Pollack. VIR made it a game with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the 9th, but DAL heldo on for the win.
Game #5:
DAL 6-4
J.Gyorko’s 2 homers gave DAL an early 4-0 lead but R.Flaherty hit a solo shot in the 9th to make it a 4-4 tie. Then, RBI’s by Harrison and Barton in the 11th gave DAL the victory.
Game #6:
DAL 5-4
DAL jumped out 3-0 in the 1st on a 2-run bomb by J.Harrison. VIR came back getting a homer from Rizzo and a RBI single and SF from C.Santana. An error by ARam gave DAL a 4-3 lead and Barton’s SF made it 5-3. ARam hit a solo shot in the 8th but it wasn’t enough as the Pirates pulled out the win.
Series Summary
A 3-3 split is about what you might have expected.

 

Hollywood  Werewolves @ Fremont  Cannons
Series Preview
Hollywood comes in with a huge cushion in the West, while Fremont is only contending for the worst record in the league.
Game #1:
A pitchers’ duel, until Hollywood gets to Deduno in the fourth and fifth. 9-4 Hollywood wins. Price strikes out 15 to go to 9-6.
Game #2:
Johnny Cueto goes the distance to get to 16-2 as Hollywood wins 4-2.
Game #3:
Jered Weaver goes eight innings allowing two unearned runs, but Hollywood is held scoreless as they lose to Fremont 2-0. With two on and two outs, and Goldschmidt at the plate in the top of the ninth, Iannetta picked off Yelich at first to end the game.
Game #4:
Hollywood gets the offense back in gear, winning 8-3. Yelich makes up for the last game by going 4-5 with a double and homer.
Game #5:
Kershaw allows one hit through six then is pulled with a comfortable lead. Hollywood wins 13-1. Kershaw is now 18-1.
Game #6:
Another unlucky number for Fremont as Hollywood closes the series ith a 13-3 win. Deduno is left out for all nine innings, allowing 20
hits and falling to 2-12 in his final start of the year.

Series Preview
Six game series between Traverse City and Motor City.
Game #1:
MCM 2 – TCC 1
WP: Leake
LP: deGrom
HR: D. Santana, K. ParkerDanny Santana gave Traverse City a lead with a solo shot in the 4th, then got hurt on a fielding play in the bottom of the same inning.
The 4th was busy, when Kyle Parker hit a two-run HR to give Motor City the lead, and the eventual win.

LP: Buchanan
SV: Gregerson
HR: TroutTrout gave Motor City an early 2-0 lead with a HR, but Traverse City erased it on a 3-run 5th inning on RBI singles by Stubbs and Kiermaier. Traverse City added two big insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI double by Ciriaco and Casali’s RBI on a suicide squeeze
fielder’s choice.

WP: C. Ramos (CG)
LP: Straily
HR: Gardner, FrazierFrazier started out the game with a solo HR, and it never got any better for Motor City. Traverse City scored another run in the 1st. They added three more runs in the 6th on another solo HR (by Frazier) and two more Gardner RBIs. Cesar Ramos went all the way, striking out 11 in a dominant performance.

WP: Volquez (CG)
LP: Phelps
HR: Trout, GardnerMotor City jumps out to an early lead on a Trout 2-run HR. Gardner ties it on one of his own in the 3rd inning. Motor City broke it open with a 4-run inning in the 3rd. Castellanos tallied 4 RBI on a 2-run triple and a 2-run double. Volquez went all the way in strong performance.

LP: Gallardo (CG)
HR: GalvisLocke and Gallardo traded zeros until the 6th, when Galvis ambushed Gallardo with a solo shot. After that the starters resumed their domination.
Game #6:
MCM 6 – TCC 1WP: Locke (CG)LP: deGrom (CG)HR: Trout (2), DozierBoth pitchers went the distance, but Locke was better at limiting
damage. deGrom was victimized by two Trout HRs, accounting for 5 of
the Muscle’s 6 runs.

Series Preview
Grand Haven visits Tempe looking to heat up and make a run at the second NL Wild Card.
Game #1:
Fister throws a complete game shutout. Grand Haven 3-0
Game #2:
Moss and Walters homeruns powered C.J. Wilson to his 6th win of the year. Grand Haven 4-1.
Game #3:
Hale avoids a bases loaded jam in the 1st and worked out of another tight spot in the 3rd. Beltre’s two rbi single in 3rd was all the pen needed. Tempe 3-1
Game #4:
Chen and Morton both pitched into the 9th but Chen picked up the complete game win when Granderson got Tempe’s second hit of the game and singled in the only run of the game. Tempe 1-0
Game #5:
Cano and Gattis each hit home runs off Burnett in the 1st and Tempe cruised the rest of the way. Tempe 6-2
Game #6:
The Gators jumped on Hale for three runs from five singles in the 2nd. Tempe tied it up in the 5th with a Cozart two rbi double. In the 8th, Ayabar doubled and then beat the throw at home when Navarro singled. Fister went eight strong innings for his second win of the series.Grand Haven 4-3
Series Summary
Fister took advantage of Tempe’s week lineup and the Gators split the series with the Tempers.
