Tempe  Tempers @ Long Beach  Dirt
Bags
Series Preview
The Dirt Bags return home after a 20 game road trip to face the always dangerous Tempe Tempers. This will be a good early test to see if Long Beach has what it takes to contend this year.
Game #1:
Tempe jumps on Dickey early and coasts to an easy 11-3 win. Cano with 4 hits along with Cabrera and Beltre’s 3 RBI each lead the offense as the Tempers pound out 15 hits.
Game #2:
This game was the opposite of the first game. It was scoreless until the 7th when Davis singled in Cespedes to give Tempe a 1-0 lead. Long Beach answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning with the go ahead run scoring on a Norris SF. Victor Martinez homered in the 8th
to make the final 3-1.
Game #3:
Another great pitcher’s duel. Tempe scored in the 1st and 9th on RBI 2Bs by Braun and Beltre to give Despaigne a 2-0 win. He pitched a  CG 5 hitter. Shoemaker was the tough luck loser giving up 1 run on 2 hits in 7 innings.
Game #4:
The 3rd pitcher dominated game in a row. Scoreless again into the 7th when Ozuno hit a solo HR. Long Beach added an insurance run in the 8th that was needed when Cespedes homered in the 9th to make the final 2-1. Lester went the distance giving up 6 hits and improving to 5-1.
Game #5:
Tempe took a 1-0 lead into the 8th. Smolinski had a PH 1B to drive in PR Dickerson and tie the game. Span followed with a 2B scoring Smolinski to give Long Beach the 2-1 win. For the 3rd time in the series Holland gave up a key hit driving in a run. Starters Iwakuma
and Ventura both pitched great.
Game #6:
Long Beach took a 3-1 lead into the 8th when Dickey was pulled and Hughes came in. Tempe jumped all over him and tied the game on RBI 1Bs by Cabrera and Beltre. Braun followed with another run scoring hit to give the Tempers a 4-3 lead. They continued pounding the  Long Beach bullpen and won 7-3. Cespedes continued his hot hitting with 3 more hits increasing his average to .351.
Series Summary
The 2 teams split the series giving the local fans hope that they will see September games that matter this year.

Selkirk  Steelers @ Bethesda  Bandicoots
Series Preview
Selkirk heads in to Bethesda to try and take advantage of the crappy season start that the Bandicoots have had.
Game #1: The Bandicoots homer three times … all friggin’ solo shots, of course, but it is Tempe spy Carlos Ruiz who makes the difference as his continued horrendous play costs the home team the game throwing the ball into left field on a steal attempt by Peter Bourjos in the 9th to break a 3-3 tie. Aaron Sanchez picked up his 4th save of the season as he downed the Bandicoots without a whimper in the 9th. Gavin Floyd (3-0) was in the right place at the right time to get the win after an inning of relief work for Henderson Alvarez. For Alvarez, the  three homers allowed (to Conor Gillaspie, Adrian Gonzalez, and Jimmy Rollins) give him 11 allowed in just six starts as compared to 14  on the whole season in the majors. BJ Upton was a force in this game for Selkirk. The Steelers’ centrefielder was 4/4 (the whole team only had six hits) and scored twice. Josh Outman (1-2) got the loss thanks to Ruiz. Tyson Ross had a fairly strong 8 innings in which he  fanned 11. Ruiz, the bag of shit, has a nice new shiny spot on the bench where he can dwell on his sins and his .125 average.
Game #2: Bethesda’s misery continues thanks to yet another lousy start by Jake Arrieta and an inefficient offense as Selkirk cruises to a 5-2 win.  Not terribly efficient themselves in this game, Selkirk cracks out 17 hits with only one of them going for extra bases – a 3-run double by  catcher Hector Sanchez. Bethesda had 11 hits but continually stalled when it mattered. Arrieta fell to 1-3 on the season after allowing all  five Selkirk runs on eight hits in just three innings and pretty much guaranteed himself to a bus ticket to the minors after the series. Yet
another asshole. Josh Collmenter (2-4) got the win for Selkirk and Aaron Sanchez earned save #5.
Game #3: Kyle Gibson’s streak of impressive starts for Selkirk ends miserably as he can just manage one out before getting yanked and giving up five runs to Bethesda as the home team manages to get 15 hits in a 10-4 win. Jimmy Rollins (2) homered for the second time in the series for Bethesda while David Peralta continued to wave a deadly stick getting three hits including a double and a triple and driving in two. Zach McAllister did a great job of keeping Selkirk in this one for a while after the Bethesda five-run 1st inning. McAllister threw 5.2 innings of relief and allowed just one unearned run. Pablo Sandoval was 2/4 for Selkirk and blasted his 4th homer of the season and  drove in all four of his team’s runs. Jake Odorizzi (1-1) was spotty, but did manage to hang on for seven innings to get the win for Bethesda.
Game #4: Aaron Sanchez douses a late-inning rally attempt by Bethesda and comes away with his third save of the series as Selkirk hangs on for a 3-1 win. Danny Salazar (1-2) was near unhittable allowing just one hit in six innings before inexplicably being yanked for reliever  Brandon League just as he got his grade bump-up. Guess six innings of one-hit ball is just not good enough for Tony Soprano. Pablo Sandoval and Nate Freiman homered for Selkirk. Alex Wood (1-2) got tagged with the loss despite pitching really well with only two hits allowed – both homers – in five innings.
Game #5: Bethesda concentrates all of its offense in two innings as they hang on to win 5-2 over Selkirk. Sonny Gray (4-2) allowed just one unearned run on three hits in seven innings for Bethesda while Jonathan Broxton tossed a scoreless 9th for his 3rd save. Anthony Rendon had two doubles for Bethesda and drove in three runs. The pair of doubles gave him a crazy 15 on the season. Brandon McCarthy (2-4) somehow found himself stuck with the loss despite allowing no earned runs and just two hits in 5.2 innings thanks to Matt Adams’  muffed grounder in the 6th which led to Bethesda scoring two runs to pop into a 2-1 lead.
Game #6: Jimmy Rollins homered off reliever Vic Black in the bottom of the 14th inning to preserve a series split for Bethesda as they walked off  with a 4-3 win. The game marked the first time this season that Aaron Sanchez allowed an earned run as Bethesda ruined his consecutive save streak with a run in the 9th off Rollins’ bat. Suddenly hot, Rollins was 4/5 in the game with three RBIs and a pair of doubles to go  with his 3rd home run of the season. Light-hitting Marwin Gonzalez victimized Selkirk starter Henderson Alvarez for yet another home run. Pablo Sandoval had three hits for Selkirk. Brad Miller (4) homered for the visitors.
Series Summary
Another lackluster performance for Bethesda, but full credit to Selkirk for making us look bad.

Pittsburgh Lumber  Company @ Jersey  Nor’easters
Series Preview
Pittsburgh visits the Nor’easters for an early season 7-game series.

Not much happiness for the home team as Pittsburg wins an easy one 6-0. Ian Kennedy goes 8 shutout innings allowing only 2 hits for the win. Anthony Gose goess deep for Pittsburgh.

Game #3:
Jersey’s Jeff Samardzija pitches a complete game of his own barely missing a shutout himself when Pittsburgh scores their lone run in
the 9th. For the second consecutive game Lucas Duda drives in all the runs for the Nor’easters with homer #8 on the year. Jersey wins
3-1.

Pittsburgh evens the series when Colby Lewis and 2 relievers shutdown the Nor-easters 3-2. Starling Marte had 3 hits for Pittsburgh while Chris Coghlan had 3 hits for Jersey.
Game #5:
Wade Miley and 2 relievers shutout Jersey 4-0. Eduardo Suarez had 3 hits and 2 RBI for Pittsburgh.
Game #6:
A good win for Pittsburgh and a tough loss for Jersey as Pittsburgh wins 2-1 in 11 innings. Michael Wacha pitches 4 shutout innings in
relief of Kennedy for the win.
Game #7:
It’s that man again for Jersey. Jose Quintana pitches his second complete game shutout of the series as Jersey wins 1-0 on a walk-off pinch hit sac fly by Bryan Pena in the 9th. Drew Hutchinson again pitched well but came up short for Pittsburgh.
Series Summary
Pittsburgh wins the series 4-3. Jersey’s Jose Quintana has to be the front runner for pitcher of the week with 2 complete game shutouts
giving up a total of 7 hits.

Motor City  Muscle @ Fremont  Cannons
Series Preview
Division leading Motor City comes to Fremont. In a low scoring series, four of the games would feature shutouts.
Game #1:
Fremont would only manage three hits against Lisalberto Bonilla, who picks up the CGSO win. OF Chris Young is lost to the Muscle for 10
days in the 5-0 Muscle victory.
Game #2:
Samuel Deduno and the Cannons bullpen return the favor, shutting out Motor City 3-0.
Game #3:
Zeroes are wild again as Juan Nicasio shuts down Motor City in a 6-0 Fremont victory. The Muscle only muster a meager two extra-base  hits in the two shutout losses.
Game #4:
The shutout streak ends in the first inning with Mike Trout’s 3-run homer, his first of the season. Fremont would fight back, but ultimately drop the game 5-3.  Edinson Volquez goes to 5-1.
Game #5:
Both starters go the distance in this one. Mike Leake allows 5 hits and no walks, but two of those hits are home runs by Carlos Gomez and Derek Dietrich as Fremont wins 2-0 with another shutout. Mark Buehrle allows 4 hits and no walks while striking out 12 in the CGSO.
Gomez now has 8 HR on the season.
Game #6:
Bonilla gets the start again for MCM, and the performance is similar to game 1: 3H, 1BB, and 7K with no ER. The result was different, however, as Khris Davis singles in two off of AJ Ramos in the ninth to win 2-1.
Game #7:
Motor City’s offense finally shows up, knocking out Taylor Jordan after only two innings in the 8-4 win. Castellanos (1), Gabby Sanchez (2), and Loney (5) all go deep for Motor City, while Khris Davis (3) and Viciedo (3) leave the yard for the Cannons.
