Roseville Thorns @ Clovis Wheat Kings
Series Preview
Final games of the season, Clovis in a dead heat with Camarillo for 1st place in the Wild Wild West! Play ball!!!
Game #1:
Griffin looking to win his 20th of the season on the mound for Clovis. Things go south quickly as Chisenhall bats with the bases loaded and clears them with a triple in the second. A base hit, a walk and then Zack Cozart plants a 3 run bomb deep into left for an insurmountable 7-0 lead for the Roseville. Vargas pitches great for the Thorns who quickly burst the Wheat Kings bubble.
Game #2:
A must win for Clovis but another flat performance. Quintanilla, Pence, and Rodriguez all blast 2-run homers for Roseville in support of Masterson who picked up the win. Clovis pennant hopes fading fast as the season is on life support now.
Game #3:
Harvey on the mound for the Wheat Kings who all come out with their hitting shoes on. By the time it is over Clovis will crush the Thorns 15-5 lead by 3 run jacks off the bats of Arenado and Byrd. Arenado will contribute 4 hits total and every position player will gather at least one hit. Season still on life support.
Game #4:
Cashner is masterful on the bump with 8 2/3 innings only giving up one unearned run and 3 hits while striking out 8 with 0 walks. Belt provides the bulk of the offense with 2 big flies and 3 hits total to lead Clovis to the easy 7-1 win. Odds are still long but a glimmer of hope remains.
Game #5:
Liriano takes charge for Clovis who keep hope alive with a 6-0 win. Liriano only surrendered 5 hits while striking out 11 to finish the season 12-9 with 4 shutouts. Arenado and Hardy both homered for Clovis.
Game #6: Must win for Clovis. Griffin on the mound still looking for his 20th win. Wheat Kings break out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to Byrd’s 12 homer of the year, a 2 run shot in the first. Roseville gets one back in the third and takes the lead with 3 in the 6th on a 2 run Cozart double and an Aoki base hit. Bottom of the seventh with Roseville leading 4-2.  Arenado singled to lead off and pinch hitter Nelson Cruz  came to the plate and deposited a Vargas fastball deep into the cheap seats to tie the game at 4 apiece. Bottom of the eleventh still tied at 4, Wilhelmsen on the mound with one out when Belt doubled into the corner. Carson was walked intentionally setting up what would be the final batter of the game, Marlon Byrd who fisted a looper over Cozart’s head that easily scored Belt who was off on contact. Belt slid home to keep the Wheat Kings potentially still alive for the division crown.
Series Summary
Clovis drops the first 2 but comes back to take the final 4 ending the season at 99-63. With Camarillo at 99-62 and currently holding a 1/2 game lead it look like the makeup game between the Quest and the Outlaws will need to be played.
