For the Bandicoots they come into this series in 2nd place 5 games back. In the league they came into this series 4th in batting at .259.

Different game but the same story. Gray allows only two singles to Blanco and nothing else. Third straight game where a starting pitcher has a 2 hit complete game shutout. Gray only had to face 28 hitters.
FINAL SCORE: BANDICOOTS 2, COUGARS 0

Game #5: Cougars have a little two out magic in the first. Doumit doubles home two and then he later scores on a single by Lucas. An error by Dallas starter Keuchel in the 2nd led to a Bethesda run. The Bandicoots tie the game in the 4th when Sinder came up with no outs and a runner on, “JAY trying to look casual as he edges toward third … the pitch … and SNIDER unloads on it
that’s long gone … a tape measure job deep to right. So they collect two on SNIDER’s homer … his 1st home run of the season … that gives SNIDER 6 RBI on the season” Bethesda scores two runs in the 5th on a double by Jay and a fielders choice, but in the bottom of the 5th Rasmus came up with one out and a runner on base, “The pitch … a blast to right … no doubt about this one … it’s gone! … way over the fence Colby ties the game! … home run for RASMUS … he seems to like base runners So RASMUS has his 2nd homer of the season … the COUGARS add two big runs and the COUGARS have tied this game! … just listen to that crowd!
and RASMUS now has 9 runs batted in on the season” The Bandicoots would get what would turn out to be the game winner the very next inning on a sac fly.

FINAL SCORE: BANDICOOTS 6, COUGARS 5

Game #6:

Another two hit complete game shutout for Bethesda though this time two different players had the two hits for the Cougars. Cumpton punches out 6 and walks none in facing only 29 Dallas batters.
FINAL SCORE: BANDICOOTS 2, COUGARS 0

Game #7:

Corbin helps Dallas salvage the finale as the offense comes alive with 11 runs on 14 hits. Pollock led the attack with 3 hits and fellow outfielder Rasmus had a three run homer.
FINAL SCORE: COUGARS 11, BANDICOOTS 1

Game #6:

Nelson was amazing through 4 innings but then got hit by a bus and will miss 23 days. Hunter came in as a 19 and sucked as Selkirk got two off him and McAllister pitched a 3 hitter. Selkirk 2 MCM 0

Series Summary *

Ends up a split as both teams had trouble scoring runs.. MCM is the better team but they really didn’t show it here.

·         Pittsburgh Lumber Company @ Tijuana Bottle Rockets

Series Preview

First place Pittsburgh makes the trip south to take on Tijuana in a 6 game series.

Series Summary * The home team loses game 1 starter C. Kluber for the series, after only 3.1 IP. The Bottle Rockets came into the series having played 10 straight without a day off, and was looking at 3 more to start this series, so we really didn’t need this. An uphill battle was in-store. The Lumber company had its own problems as game 3 starter B. Norris didn’t get out of the 1st. the Pittsburgh bullpen was tired.

The Lumber company take the 1st two games each by 2 runs. Tijuana then flexes its “muscles” and scores a total of 25 runs over the next two games, both victories. A. Sanchez and J. Verlander then stymie The Bottle Rockets offense and Pittsburgh takes the final two games giving them the series 4-2.

Roseville Thorns @ Columbus Explorers

Series Preview

Roseville Thorns (10-10) vs. Columbus Explorers (10-10) – two teams fighting uphill battles in their divisions – the Thorns look better on paper – let’s see how they do on the field.

Game #1: Scott Baker, making his 3rd start of the season, looks impressive. Goes 8.2 innings giving up 5 hits and 1 run, fanning 6, but needed a bit of help from Dunn to get the last out. Dunn came through with a whiff and Columbus takes the opener 2-1. Masterson was masterful for the Thorns – 5 hits in 6 innings, but got no support. Columbus scored both runs in the 6th, Roseville got theirs in the 9th on an Encarncion double, but he’s stranded. WP Baker (2-0), S Dunn (1), LP Masterson (1-2).
SIDE NOTE: Looks like Baker is done for the year, after the game he reported serious arm pain and he’s been shut down (for a long time).

Game #2:

Offenses wake up in game two as the Thorns get up 3-0 after 3. Columbus keeps clawing back, but everytime they do, the Thorns score again. Final 7-5. Roseville HRs from McLouth (1), Encarnacion 2 (12, 13), Cozart (1). Encarnacion gets 4 rbis. WP M.Gonzalez (3-1), S Janssen (3), LP Chen (1-3)

Game #3:

Thorns again prove more productive than Explorers even after falling behind 1-0 in the 2nd on a Harrell rbi single. Lobatan 2 run HR (1) sparks the offense in the 4-1 win. Pettitte, still looking youthful, goes 7 innings for the win (2-2) giving up 5 hits and fanning 7. Albers gets the save (1). Harrell drops to 0-4.

Game #4:

Shoppach doubles in a run in the 2nd and that’s the only run of the game as Milone tosses an 8 hit CG shutout for the win (4-0). Redmond was tough himself going 6 innings with 5 hits, but 4 walks didn’t help. He takes the loss (1-3).

Game #5: With the series even at 2 games apiece, the Thorns decide it’s time to show some dominance. Both teams manage a run in the 1st, and after 6 it’s 4-3 Roseville. But the 8th and 9th turn the game around when Roseville plates in the 8th and 3 in the 9th to pull away for a 9-4 victory. Pence HRs (5), Pierzynski goes 3 for 4 with 2 run, 2 rbis. ARod gets PH rbis double and scores a run. Masterson goes 6.2 for the win (2-2). Happ takes the loss (0-2) and walks 6 in 5 innings.
Game took a negative turn after Rickie Weeks was hit by a Happ pitch. Unfortunately he’ll miss 3 weeks (23 days). But the negative part came when Masterson did the retaliation thing by nailing Lough with a pitch (he was groggy, but stayed the course).
Game #6: With Roseville on a roll, M. Gonzalez takes the hill and is sparked by an Encarnacion HR (14) in the 1st for a 1-0 lead. Gonzalez is good – real good – giving up 1 hit through 7.1 innings – Peranowski likes to pull pitchers at the magic 27 batter point – and Gonzalez had the 1 hit shutout going, so out he came and in come Watson. First batter, De Aza, takes him over the wall for the tying solo shot (4). Gonzalez was last seen tearing up the dugout, dropping the Gatorade and storming into the clubhouse …. For Watson it was BS #3. But he gets redemption when Heath Hembree serves a gopher ball to LaRoche (4) in the 9th with a runner on to give Roseville a 3-1 lead. Janssen comes in and does what Watson couldn’t have saves (4) the day. Oh yes, Watson picks up the win (3-1) seems to make a living on BS. Hembree gets the loss (0-1) – Oberholtzer, the starter, other than that 1st inning HR was sharp as a tack for his 8 innings (4 hits, 1 run , 5 Ks, 1 W), but left with no decision.
Game #7: Parts of this game looked familiar – Roseville starter Andy Pettitte is pulled in the 8th with a 1 hit shutout on the line. Watson is called in to relieve, but since there was a 5-0 lead, he didn’t blow it (since there was no SAVE on the line and getting a win was not probable). The two combined for a 1 hit shutout, Pettitte getting another win (3-2). Pence goes 2 for 4 with HR (4) and 3 rbis, LaRoche also homers (5) and 2 rbis. Encarnacion gets 2 hits (and had a great series).
Chen takes the loss (1-4)

Series Summary *

Roseville takes the series 5-2 and moves to 15-12 while Columbus drops to 12-15 and goes on the road to NL East Division leader and dominator New York. Roseville injury to Weeks and Columbus Baker (0% RUse) have long terms effects.

Final Score: Chicago 6 – Traverse City 5

Game #7:

The bottom 3 batters in the Mobsters lineup each had a RBI (Kyle Blanks, Pedro Ciriaco & Ben Revere) which were the only runs needed in this 3-1 final. A.J. Burnett (3-1 1.98) went 6.2 innings, and Chapman picked up his 9th save on the season with a solid 9th inning of work.
